The important thing for me is: this is your life, live it, probably there's no other kind of existence, dont waste it thinking in the future (next year, heaven, etc)
@xmfdibujito many people seek knowledge for things that are inexplicable and omnipresent, thats what gives them contentment in life. you cant blame someone for his philosophical interest. afterall, curiosity is what makes us human.
@MrMushroom123 yes, I know it pretty well. But I think that most part of the searching is because the overwhelming fear they/we feel. Is not like the curiosity that leads to art, science... The 9th symphony or a space rocket is the invention of a great mind, god is the invention of a fearful mind. Thats what I think, I dont blame others.
@xmfdibujito i totally understand your viewpoints. too much doubt and questioning things, can lead to a stressful and unfulfilled life. its easy to lose yourself when you cant distinguish right from wrong anymore. so i get what you mean.
@Schaard Lets be honest nobody really knows the answer to that but one view is deemed as optimistic, the other pessimistic. If you whole-heartedly believe in the silent void then perhaps where you'll end up.... me personally; i'm off to explore the eternal oceans after this ;)
But I'm never particularly affected by the music in that deep existential sense Coil fans talk about. This might be heretical but doesn't anybody else see the camp side of this music? I can't help but think about Vincent Price and Christopher Leigh in Hammer Horror films. But then, maybe I've post-ironied myself to death
R.I.P. Coil. Yet I still hope that someone (Thighpaulsandra, Simon, Stephen or Massimo & Pierce???) has all the tons of unreleased material Coil had - Album with William S. Burroughs. Album with Diamanda Gallas. Proper release nof their two soundtracks "A Gay Man's Guide" and "Sarah Dale's Sensuous Massage". Coil's Live At Bar Maldoror? An EP with Terence McKenna. And I am sure nthere is much more unreleased and even more unfinished recordings... I hope once it will see the light of the day.
I'm not familiar with coil, At the start of the video i thought it was Larry Mullen jr fanning himself. Great track reminds me a little of Eno. They've got some great sounds perhaps they weren't as good at putting them together as more successful artists?
@kriz716 I think they were very successful and influential. And while I like Eno's music very much, ambient and rock too, his works are so much more limited and less intense than some of the works of Coil. Try it and you may be very pleasantly surprised.
@mzfiguer Do you mean the lotus flowers on the pond? If so, it's a Buddhist symbol (I know Sleazy was Buddhist) and it symbolises the opening of the soul -- the lotus grows out of the mud and opens to the light.
@L33TSP34KL0L The regularity with which this otherworldly nonsense ("Sleazy and Jhonn are waiting for us in Heaven, guys!") is posted on Coil's videos amazes me. Have you ever actually listened to Coil? Have you not heard the unthinkable oblivion of death that awaits us all? Human existence is an accidental catastrophe that ends in silence. The beauty of Coil's music is how they enlist accident, chaos, and even silence in a symphonic conspiracy that exposes us to the gaping maw of the void.
you are right! (woops, I just uttered a word of no existence). just to add that coil's musick may open paths to understand how in moden times otherness and chaoz may discuss their stuff. just before the edge there may be a cull to the ones that exist in us, the Others in many many respects, that we shoudl call upon and dicuss with. just to cal them after their names, that could free us from many restrictions. this is a hard deed for They are strong, at least as strong as our fears are.
@Schaard Coil is chaos, you're defining what happens after death, who the fuck are you to define something like that? Coil does not need answers (and if it does, then answers come in dreams).
@Schaard People will always misread what is out of their reach to understand. Most people want their own ideas fed back to them in a loop (and I guess this applies to me too)...
@Schaard Sleazy himself said "death is not the end" and had more a of an occult and 'otherworldly' leaning, an actual Coil fan would know this. There are videos of him speaking here on youtube where he says as much. So yeah, fuck you.
@Schaard "Have you not heard the unthinkable oblivion of death that awaits us all? Human existence is an accidental catastrophe that ends in silence." you wrote.
Death ist not the end. There will be silence, but there will also be light. Life has no end, this existence (incarnation) is not all - there is so much more!
This catastrophe (if you will call it so) is also a chance.
Totally amazing act. Love the depth and mood to their sound. Reminds me of all the great dark music that have had the pleasure of listening too. Nine, Gary Numan, Massive Attack, Portishead, Depeche Mode, Ministry, Unkle, Trobbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, Front line Assembly, Vex Red, AllFlaws
@UnitedDiscord falls are the second leading cause of traumatic death behind car crashes. if you don't die from cancer, heart disease, stroke, lower respiratory disease, car crash or poisoning, you'll die from a fall before anything else.
Since I've seen it I've wondered what the vid is about. It came to mind later, when reading "The Confessions..." & strikes me as the indecisiveness of "East meets West" to a sort of Westerner, or the willpower of a figure like Alan Bennett, seemingly indecisive yet instrumental. Paired with the music, which is like hopelessness instrumentalised, it seems just to be a glimpse into the ultimate impenetrability of the internal experience.
@WahkibaJ seriousy, did you just criticize coil by calling them gay? their music was mostly sigils to cultivate male energy. to call coil gay is like calling sugar sweet. i hate sugar, it's so sweet.
@rxshea LoL, no i didnt criticized them at all i love them but that doesnt change the fact that they " cultivated male energy" together all at the same time....... in the nude LMFAO

wow i have to say, i'm really knew to this. I knew the NIN version (who i love) but, i expected a really harsh sound. Instead it's eerie, but utterly soothing. Absolutely amazing.

the NIN version is actually a completely different song and it's by Aphex Twin, released on a NIN remix album. but at least we are all listening to good musick. now get musick to play in the dark.

Is it really a fact that the coil catalouge is nearly sold out? Im sarhing for 'Black Antlers' and 'Remote Wiewer' and have had no luck so far. Im really happy had had the honour to see Coil, in Oslo(!) . The Key To Joy Is Disobidiensce i think that tour was called. In 2004 or 2005, sorry for my miserable memory.
All of Coil's output is difficult to obtain.I recently purchased TheNewBackwards via Amazon for £12 but see its now £25+!.The musicians do not benefit from rip off prices&limited availability-only unscrupulous dealers-HorseRotorvator(which I foolishly gave away!)-original CD issue from 1995-now priced in excess of £50-the reissue from 2003-£140-for used copies!!!
Perhaps an independant label will recognise the demand for Coil material & re-release all whole back catalogue-heres hoping!!!
It's from Derek Jarman's The Angelic Conversation. Coil provided the soundtrack some of which was released as How To Destroy Angels. This however appeared on Scatology.
What a great song. This has a strong introspective quality. I decided yesterday that I was going to buy The Ape of Naples from amazon, but when I got there, I was looking at a 60+ dollar order. That's fucking ridiculous. Anyone know where I can get it for cheaper?
I remember the times when i was into coil in the late 80's and trying to get my head around things in my life . and at many a time i found myself ever so unable to do so . i remember listening to the album this track is originally on 'scatology' and trying to end my life , spending hours on end , fantasizing , days on end on how to end my life .... fucked up times they where .
I question these previous comparisons between NIN and Coil. They have little in common.
Coil is an extension of the Throbbing Gristle/Psychic TV origins of industrial, while NIN takes more from the Richard Kirk/Kraftwerk schools of influence.
Peter (Sleazy) and Johnn are on a while different plane. Peace and Absinthe for Sleazy and Thigpaulsandra , and a toast to the moon in memory of Johnn.
Technically, it wasn't Trent Renzor who did the NIN version - his friend, Richard D. James, alias Aphex Twin, composed the version you hear on the album.
@no1rockfan well i don't know if you've heard the fragile or the whole ghosts collection by nine inch nails. it had alot of dark ambient type of influence in it- nine inch nails can't really be categorized lol. remember that trent was influenced by early industrial roots as well as synth pop. it wound up to be nine inch nails. sometimes the early industrial/dark ambient roots come out.
ooh give up with the pretentious attitude; don't like NIN, leave it alone. do you think with coil working on the same god damn album with a song of the same name as their own they'd piss and moan if it was worth it.
PS: I like how everyone likes using the term "ripping off"; its called "influence", or even more so "like-mindedness", but god Trent must bee too dimwitted to possibly understand coil like you folk do.
I will quantify my last comment,John(JHONN) is a cousin of mine- so I feel somewhat protective, all of his & Sleazy's work is incomparable. R.I.P John In dreams I walk with you XXIII
Beautiful...... just....... beautiful...... R.I.P John and Sleazy you will always be in out hearts.

"To me, fair Friend, you never can be old,
For as you were when first your eye I eyed
Such seems your beauty still. Three winters' cold
Have from the forests shook three summers' pride;
Three beauteous springs to yellow autumn turn'd
In process of the seasons have I seen,
Three April perfumes in three hot Junes burn'd,
Since first I saw you fresh, which yet are green."

Anyone know where I can get it for cheaper?

its worth it!!!
almost all coil is incredibly hard to get hold of without illegally downloading
and why rip off such amazing artists?
if you find sleazy's site
from there you get get hold of stuff
its deep and underground and u must search hard...

Why would anybody compare NIN to Coil, they don't even sound alike, not counting the remixes they did.

Great track. This tune has been stuck in my head for weeks now for some reason, and now I've found a video to go with it!

I live in a crazy world where I can enjoy both NIN and Coil at the same time!
It's easy, if you try!

Great ambient track - they are amazing

If NIN is a firecracker, Coil is an nuclear bomb.
lovecraft4780 3 years ago
You're an idiot, aren't you? It's Aphex Twin who did the track, and you obviously didn't hear it.

Is this an excerpt from Derek Jarman's film "the angelic conversation"?
saldekcn 3 years ago 2
Yes. Coil created the soundtrack.

RomZomCom 3 years ago 3
@no1rockfan well i don't know if you've heard the fragile or the whole ghosts collection by nine inch nails. it had alot of dark ambient type of influence in it- nine inch nails can't really be categorized lol. remember that trent was influenced by early industrial roots as well as synth pop. it wound up to be nine inch nails. sometimes the early industrial/dark ambient roots come out.

Sheer brilliance from the masters. RIP Jhonn.

ooh give up with the pretentious attitude; don't like NIN, leave it alone. do you think with coil working on the same god damn album with a song of the same name as their own they'd piss and moan if it was worth it.
PS: I like how everyone likes using the term "ripping off"; its called "influence", or even more so "like-mindedness", but god Trent must bee too dimwitted to possibly understand coil like you folk do.

A-FUCKING-MEN!!! :) thank you for saying what i've been thinking for YEARS despite social pressures

Coil remixed a bunch of NIN songs and was on reznor's Nothing label for a long spell, though nothing materialized. Just sayin'. And also: who CARES?

I will quantify my last comment,John(JHONN) is a cousin of mine- so I feel somewhat protective, all of his & Sleazy's work is incomparable. R.I.P John In dreams I walk with you XXIII
