I haven't had a go of one of these things yet, they look very impressive, but I heard a guy playing one in a shop and I have seen a few videos and I have to get one thing straight "nothing will ever replace a proper tube amp in sound...nothing" I have tried all these gizmo's and they all remind me of my old Zoom 505.
What people just dont seem to understand is that the Axe Fx while sounds amazing Live, Also pulls it's weight in the studio as well. Thats the difference. it's not just another Amp sim, its a real piece of studio equipment. Sounds amazing directly put into the mix without having to Mic and do everything, And It sounds great mic'ed lol. Whats the differance btween a 2k PC and a 500 dollar one? They both surf the web but it's what you need it for.
sorry, a novice here. But will the Axe FX unit eliminate the need for other units such as distortion and delay pedals? and what is an adaquate or ideal amp will i need? Thanks!
so does that thing plug into my (amp) head, directly into the cab, just into a computer...? i'm pretty unfamiliar with this thing. i can't really tell how you have it hooked up.
Hey, i've been curious, what exact models of GK cabinets are those?? I realize you replaced the speakers to EVs, but I wanna find the cabs also and do the same, they look perfect.. One looks like a 112MBX, but the other bigger one?
@Snownote I really don't remember. I sold the cabinets because the Axe-Fx speaker sims became better and better. Now I play the Axe-Fx directly into the board or I use 2 AER Acousticubes. Sounds awesome. See my new video "Axe-Fx & MFC101 English Demo 2010 by Peter Autschbach"
Just winding you up with my silly jokes bro! I think you;ve sone a real good demo compared to the other muppets on the tube who dont know anything but overdrives ,,but you showed the flexiblity and versatility of the box bro! well done!
I honestly cannot thank you enough for demoing more sounds than just palm-muted death chugs that *every* other Axe FX video on the web has. I can now rest easy knowing that it can do stuff other than metal. Very good video.
Im sorry for the dumb question, but how does this preamp works?? Do I just plug it directly to my amp, Do I need something else besides my amp??. Sorry for my lack of knowledge :P
@123hero321 I'm not having a go at it, it does seem incredibly versatile! I just don't know, perhaps it's all in my brain, it sounds processed to me. the best moddler I have ever heard though. Would I ditch my head and rack for it..... hmmmmmmm.... no. Would I like to have every permutation in one box, yes. If it had a valve in it, I reckon it could spell the end for most amps.
sweet home alabama sounds better than the original.
the tortuous thing for me is that I could afford one of these beasts, but am blind so can't use any of the LCD based stuff available today. I'm a bit resentful of the whole menu based effects development of recent years. Hopefully manufacturers will start thinking about all the blind musicians out there, and make modern technology accesible to us.
Nice one :-) Very convincing, man. And I like the sound of your cuntz guitar - just for info: Seymour Duncan's JB is NOT a Jeff Beck pick up, but means "jazz & blues", since Jeff Beck is a Fender endorser and has never ever played with SD pick ups...cheers..!
Can I plug this directly into my marshall cabinet and use it as a head? And will it go loud? Please tell me! This is the only thing that is stopping me from getting it
Can I plug this directly into my marshall cabinet and use it as a head? And will it go loud? Please tell me! This is the only thing that is stopping me from getting it
@rickyjshiznit yes, If your amp has a series FX loop, you can run the preamp out into the fx return of the loop. but your amp has to have a series loop for this to work. Don't try to run the preamp into the front of the amp, It wont sound so good, since it is running one preamp into another. Hope this helps :)
I'm curious though, I haven't seen anyone do any patch changes in the middle of playing, is their some type of lag when switching tones? On an amp if you hit the channel switch it immediately will be on the other channel, does the axe fx have any noticeable delay when switching tones like some lesser guitar processing units?
Excellent demo! You really showed the huge range of tones this unit can handle. I do have a question though, I see in the vid you are running the Axe-FX into a Marshall power amp and as explained into two 1x12 cabs. Is it also possible to run the Axe-FX with active monitor loudspeakers without an amplifier in between?
@bonuzround I think it is, it has better reverb sounds and you can add more effects at a time. But it depends on what you want to do with the unit. The standard amp and cab sounds are exactly the same...
The main advantages of the ULTRA (as far as I'm concerned) are the synth sounds which might be fun to play around with and the on board compressor. For my money, those are the only things I would have liked from the ULTRA so I went with the standard and it's brilliant. There's no way you'd need the added processing speed of the UTRA (which I would assume accounts for most of its higher price tag).
@MattWilson02 Hi Matt, I think I did the kneeslapping accidentally while concentrating on what I wanted to say next. Yes, it looks weird and I didn't do it in my last videos. Check out my new English AxeFx Video (see video response). No more kneeslapping ;-)
@ESP4thaWin Sorry, I cannot demonstrate sounds that fit music that I'm not able to play. I am sure you can do heavy stuff with the unit, but not me because I almost never listen to this kind of music. I'm more into improvisation. Did you see my new Axe-Fx-movie? I posted it as response...

Sounds a lot like Allan Holdsworth in the first demonstration with the yellow ibanez look-alike. Great demo of this! I'm thinking about going for this rather than a head now. This thing is awesome.
are you using a head with that? do you need one? I am looking into this and since the price is pretty high it would be nice to not have to buy a new head as well. also, what volume pedal are you using?
@beelzybub666 It is a a head itself. Get a 50 watts power amp and connect it live with the PA system you don't even need to carry a Cab. But if you still want the cab just buy a speaker cab and use it with this. This is not just a beyond amazing amp modeler but also a great effects processor and a great amp head :) Enjoy it.
This is the best axe fx demonstration I've seen. I'm sold- the tone diversity+quality is unparalleled. All I've been hearing are prog / metal videos so I couldnt get a good read. Thanks!
@ShredMiyagi Thanks! You might want to check out my new Axe-Fx-Demo (still in German, I'm working on the English version). But I'm not talking when I'm showing how it sounds...
Search for "Axe-Fx & MFC101 Demo 2010 von Peter Autschbach"
@leehamX3 This is the ending of my guitar instrumental "Fairy Tale" which I usually play in the key of E, here it's in Eb. Search for my last name and "Fairy Tale" and you can see three versions (all in the key of E). The score and Tab can be found in the book "On Stage".
Is it possible to connect external controllers as you can with Logic Studio from Apple? In Mainstage you can control various parameters inside the computer using an outboard keyboard. This would make live use very easy.
I haven't had gear lust for a very long time, but bloody hell I have it now. This is the most amazing guitar effects processor I've heard since hearing an Eventide H3000 for the first time.
@cbastriani These are some chords that I use in my song "P's Tune". With open strings. People keep asking, so here's what it is (frets from low to high): 0 11 11 11 12 11, 099 9 10 9, x06600, x04504, 4x4302, 2x4302, 7x7600, 7x7544, 0 11 11 11 12 11. x means muted string. Have fun!
is your progression at 1:32 from an actual song? its great

That's an excellet review! You should do more of these, it's far more comprehensive look over than anything I've seen recently! Thanks!

@cbastriani These are some chords that I use in my song "P's Tune". With open strings. People keep asking, so here's what it is (frets from low to high): 0 11 11 11 12 11, 099 9 10 9, x06600, x04504, 4x4302, 2x4302, 7x7600, 7x7544, 0 11 11 11 12 11. x means muted string. Have fun!
