This is the original version of Cripple Creek, the only one as far as I know. The only way to play bluegrass is to " Keep it clean". This guy is " A tasteful and Sweet Pick'n Musician"! Keep up the good playing, and yes, " I do like your ' Morgan Monroe Banjo - it's a good one "!
I just ordered my Morgan Monroe Cascade ysterday, Then i found your video. I am glad i ordered it now and cannot wait to get it. Other people have videos on you tube using the Cascade and they all sound very good.
Piece of shit redneck, I've grown up in the city my whole life and I'm willing to bet I can out frail/pick you're inbred worthless self. Post a video of you playing if you have the balls dumbass.
The way i learn was by watching a old man one time then when i got home i pick up my banjo and started playing and been playing ever since.Nice Job! Man
thank you so much for this wonderful tune. I wish I could play it as nice as you can soon! I just started to learn to play 5 string banjo. greetings from germany
i'm a guitarist, not a banjo player, but it looks to me like a banjo is a snare drum fitted with a neck, with a tuning key in the middle of it, but the body just looks like a drum, is that what it is or is it just a popular traditional shape 4 the banjo body?
goo see how they work. they weigh a ton, and are freakin loud. that "drum" is the head, and is part of what gives it that twang sound. it has a tone ring inside and a bunch of other things. they are pretty complicated
for the first note in the song (first string, frets 3-5) try a pinch on the first and fifth string with frets 2-5 on the first string, and an open fifth fret
i just bought a morgan monroe rocky top banjo,,it sounds and plays great!!!i swear by morgan monroe instruments!!!!i have one of there creek side guitars and its the best thing ive ever played!!!
Pretty good. I just got a Morgan Monroe guitar, and I've played a couple Morgan Monroe banjos. They're great instruments, better than an acoustic Fender or Gibson any day. They're not as expensive, either.
i hear your picks/pick are making scraping noises against the strings, to prevent this you will have to bend your picks so they are more to the flat side, if they are plastic then grab a pair of pliers and put them in boiling water for a couple of seconds then bend, if metal just bend.
very nice pickin what may help you is in sted of hamering on from 2nd fret to the 3rd try sliding it helps me i have tried it both ways but what ever works for you!

it sounds much better and smoother, if you instead of hammering on 2nd fret, to slide from 2nd to 3rd or 4th fret

You are learning and well... Question, why are you incorporating Blackberry Blossom into Cripple Creek..?
craigsmiley 2 years ago
That's not BB - that is the actual "melodic" run of Cripple Creek up the neck - sounds a little like BB - but not the same

is banjo playing like playing with fingers on one string and having the other 2 picking fingers playing open strings?
benzruler1 3 years ago
no, you use all three strings to play different strings. Most the time the index and middle finger stay on the lower 3 strings however.
bucketmouthangler13 3 years ago
um more clear please, does the thumb jut pluck the 5th string, while the other 2 play with the left hand?
benzruler1 3 years ago
No, the thumb can play the 5th, 4th, and even the 3rd string.
bucketmouthangler13 3 years ago

There is, it's called plectrum style - used a lot outside of bluegrass, especially in some ragtime and jazz.
