  • is that a goodtime banjo???

  • i had no idea that Obama could play the banjo

  • @smackenurjunk You took the words right outta my mouth!

  • This is the original version of Cripple Creek, the only one as far as I know. The only way to play bluegrass is to " Keep it clean". This guy is " A tasteful and Sweet Pick'n Musician"! Keep up the good playing, and yes, " I do like your ' Morgan Monroe Banjo - it's a good one "!

  • it sounds much better and smoother, if you instead of hammering on 2nd fret, to slide from 2nd to 3rd or 4th fret

  • is that obama!lol

  • this makes me wanna run around outside with out my shoes on

  • Fantastic!! Enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing. Gwen

  • good, but you are miles away from Mean Mary :-)

  • you are so talented with all the instruments you can play

i can play the hormonica and guitar banjo and sitar

  • What version of Cripple Creek is this? I see it everywhere on youtube but the only version I can play is the melodic.

  • It's the version from Jeff Howhald's Banjo Primer

  • I just ordered my Morgan Monroe Cascade ysterday, Then i found your video. I am glad i ordered it now and cannot wait to get it. Other people have videos on you tube using the Cascade and they all sound very good.

  • fukin nigger we play banja not yall

  • @redneckrooster5

Piece of shit redneck, I've grown up in the city my whole life and I'm willing to bet I can out frail/pick you're inbred worthless self. Post a video of you playing if you have the balls dumbass.

  • The way i learn was by watching a old man one time then when i got home i pick up my banjo and started playing and been playing ever since.Nice Job! Man

  • The world needs more BANJOISTS

  • Earl would be proud. Keep on pickin'

  • post up some tabs or a link dude..

  • WTF has that got to do with anything? I like this rendition so back off pal.

  • Clean sound

  • nice banjo

  • Bravo.

  • You are learning and well... Question, why are you incorporating Blackberry Blossom into Cripple Creek..?

  • That's not BB - that is the actual "melodic" run of Cripple Creek up the neck - sounds a little like BB - but not the same

  • i second lacey's comment.

  • nice!

  • i goto this video all the time!!!! LOVE IT :)

  • great job......kudos and respect, buddy!

  • this is amasing i saw you play this when i first got my banjo and it made me want to play it so much i didnt stop till i could! thanks

  • how long di it take u to learn that?

  • thats just plain cool keep pickin

  • is that a höfner banjo?

  • Hello. No it's a Morgan Monroe Cascade.

  • ima pickin and im a grinnin

  • thank you so much for this wonderful tune. I wish I could play it as nice as you can soon! I just started to learn to play 5 string banjo. greetings from germany

  • How long have you been playing?

  • This is going to be the first song I learn on banjo. Thanks for the great video!

  • 1. pinch 2 fret 1st string go down to 5th fret pinch come up to first fret hold 2nd string and 1st of the 2nd fret and hit 5-2-1

  • do you know where i can find the tablature for the part beginning at :40

  • if you find the tab, let me know. that second break is cool.

  • i thought it was great !

  • wonderfully played.

  • i want to play banjo.

  • what does berean meen

  • is that an alabama banjo? .... kinda looks like mine

  • It's a Morgan MOnroe Cascade.

  • What kind of banjo is that??

  • mine and his looke alike and mines an alvarez

  • Very nice. What about " Boil Them Cabbage Down " ?

  • Didn't know today that some of the tune by Doug Dillard (Banjo in the Hollow) came from this.

    Nice pickin!

  • theres a nice how to video of this somewere on this site

  • yep, it's by RagMama123

  • nice pickin.!!!!!

  • thjis is a really nive version, is there a tab for it?

  • Hey can you give me the tab for this version of Cripple Creek?

  • i'm a guitarist, not a banjo player, but it looks to me like a banjo is a snare drum fitted with a neck, with a tuning key in the middle of it, but the body just looks like a drum, is that what it is or is it just a popular traditional shape 4 the banjo body?

  • it's not an actual snare drum, just looks like one

the tuning key in the middle is for a string, thats where the string starts

  • goo see how they work. they weigh a ton, and are freakin loud. that "drum" is the head, and is part of what gives it that twang sound. it has a tone ring inside and a bunch of other things. they are pretty complicated

  • for the first note in the song (first string, frets 3-5) try a pinch on the first and fifth string with frets 2-5 on the first string, and an open fifth fret

  • one of the better videos i've seen on youtube :)

  • i have a banjo but its terrible

  • You are learning, and your instrument sounds very good.. But Black Berry Blossom appeared

to be mixed in there... Medley, right..?

  • Sounded like a little Banjo in the Hollow mixed in.

  • nice

    just mind your tempo

  • i just bought a morgan monroe rocky top banjo,,it sounds and plays great!!!i swear by morgan monroe instruments!!!!i have one of there creek side guitars and its the best thing ive ever played!!!

  • Pretty good. I just got a Morgan Monroe guitar, and I've played a couple Morgan Monroe banjos. They're great instruments, better than an acoustic Fender or Gibson any day. They're not as expensive, either.

  • dude i love the banjo so much i can't wait till mine arrives

  • Oh btw with flat i mean so that they hit the string more flat when you pick notes.

  • i hear your picks/pick are making scraping noises against the strings, to prevent this you will have to bend your picks so they are more to the flat side, if they are plastic then grab a pair of pliers and put them in boiling water for a couple of seconds then bend, if metal just bend.

  • It's a Morgan Monroe Cascade

  • is banjo playing like playing with fingers on one string and having the other 2 picking fingers playing open strings?

  • no, you use all three strings to play different strings. Most the time the index and middle finger stay on the lower 3 strings however.

  • um more clear please, does the thumb jut pluck the 5th string, while the other 2 play with the left hand?

  • No, the thumb can play the 5th, 4th, and even the 3rd string.

  • Its a Morgan Monroe cascade

  • Nice one thats a seriously expensive banjo is'nt it?

  • It's not that expensive compared to a lot of others.

  • very nice pickin what may help you is in sted of hamering on from 2nd fret to the 3rd try sliding it helps me i have tried it both ways but what ever works for you!

  • Hey thanks for that tip. I think that actually works better for me.

  • i like sliding better too :D

  • very nice pickin what may help you is in sted of hamering on from 2nd fret to the 3rd try sliding it helps me i have tried it both ways but what ever works for you!

  • Well done.

    Some good banjo pickin' there.

  • Very nice.

  • fantastic dude.....from a novice banjo plucker....not up to pickin just yet....someday....great job.

    oh and ah..

    keep smilin,

  • Hi Berean,

    thanks for your feedback.

I'm impressed by the number of instruments you play.

  • hey, you might wana put the strap hook in the whole that is on the side closest to your picking hand or itll hurt the banjos neck

  • is banjo like playing a ukulele ??

  • I play the uke also, but I imagine they don't play the same. I rarely fingerpick on my uke (well, banjo-uke for formby) But then again, is it possible to strum songs on the banjo?

  • Oh, so theres no struming on banjos eh ?

  • Not as far as I know

  • There is, it's called plectrum style - used a lot outside of bluegrass, especially in some ragtime and jazz.

  • Ukelele is tuned G,C,E,A and I think banjo is g,D,G,B,g

  • sounds good man,im learning the same song, same style as you.i guess we are learning from the same book

  • good job man! i've got a banjo comin in the mail as i write. is yours a five or six string? i dont know much about banjo's other than i love the sound of em but, i hope to learn soon! thanks for the post!

  • HI banjo is 6 string

  • his banjo i mean

  • i ment 5 string

  • do you live Hawie? if thats how you spell it.

  • That was just great!

  • looks like a Gibson mastertone (Scruggs Standard) to me, are these "Cascade"'s made by Gibson?

  • The "Cascade" is made by Morgan Monroe. it's a korean made banjo I believe. They have various models.

  • Good job! That cascade is real bright sounding sounds good

  • even tho cripple creek is considered a biginer song, its still one of my favorites.

  • Nice video, good speed for learning. What Tab are you playing from? Online available?

  • The tab was from a banjo book by Geoff Howald. You can order it online from Elderly Instruments and other places.

  • damn nice playing and damn nice banjo. a washburn?

  • Thanks a lot for the comment. The banjo is a Morgan Monroe Cascade.

  • how much is one of those? great playing btw

  • I bought mine used on e-bay for around $500. I think new they are about $700.

  • Oh okay.

  • they are more than that there $1,299.99

  • I looked at a couple of places and they average about $730

  • This was really good! <33

  • PS Awsom jusb, I have a Gold Tone Banjo, how many strings does your banjo have, my computer is too slow to tell,(Dial-Up) Booooo!

  • It's a five sting.

  • PS sweet vidio i love da banjo!

  • yeah... great work!

  • Way to go, that was very good!

  • sounds like an expensive one

  • sounds awesome! i want a banjo

  • It's a Morgan Monroe Cascade.

  • how much would one of those cost

  • I like it. ;-) Keep up the good work!

  • Nice job!
