Your idea of the weight being taken by either sides of the t-bar isn't strictly true. The weight will always be going straight down the middle of the support pole. Physics will tell you that. The weight, as long as it is balanced equally either side of the center pole, will be evenly distributed between all three legs not just two. The orientation will not make any difference.
Yeah, the weight will go straight down the middle of the pole IF you only have something dead centre on the top of the pole. If you have a T-Bar setup such as this, you will know for a fact that having weight on the arms of the T-Bar will undeniably change the centre of balance for the entire structure. Gravity will also bring items out on the arms down to the ground and will flex the support column influencing balance of the structure as well. Put down your book, and get some real world exp.
Pick up a physics book and look it up. The weight if distributed along the bar evenly will always go straight down the pole. Yeh if you have 100kg on one side and 20kg on the other it will be unsafe, but if balanced (your video) it will have no effect. The T-bar could be a mile long, as long as the weight is evenly distributed along the bar you wont have a problem with orientation. Have you tried flexing a T-bar to the point of bending recently? Real World=Physics. Have a look at acting moments.
I had a really drunk "fat" guy try to use one of my T-Bars for support 2 weekends ago when he got a little too dizy trying to be the cool guy dancing. Let's just say, my T-Bar wound up looking more like an R-Bar. But because my T was alligned with my legs, it didn't topple. It just skewed the center pole, and I can no longer retract it down. :(
if you start setting your lights up and start with a light on the side that isn't parallel with the leg then the weight wont be even. plus your lights don't weigh all the same anyway...
Ok well if your talking about small differences in weight. Then in this video the two lights are on the front of the T-bar which will cause the weight to shift slightly forward on the stand. Therefore the orientation should have one leg completely forward and the other two behind. I am merely saying stand leg orientation isn't important when setting up stands.
I understand that a 100kg guy hanging off one side of a T-bar would make a difference but not a 10kg light fixture.

ok i got two mackie 15inch powerd pa speakers should i get 2 15inch subs or 1 18 inch sub?
pkwiththepros 3 years ago
I only have 1 15" sub and 2 SRM450s. Works perfectly for me. 2 subs takes up too much space =(

Personaly, I would go with the 18. You already have 2 15s. The 18 will give you just that little bit extra on the bottom end.
