Hope you don't take this the wrong way, because you play great, but could you play through once before you begin. I think tutorials that 1st play though the section being taught help reinforce the lesson, especially when the person who want to learn is not exactly sure how the song goes.
at 7:49 you hit a chord that is not in the rundown at the beginning. I love it and I think it's an A7 with a B in the bottom but it's definitely not a standard chord in the 1 7 3 6 2 5 progression. You got some 'splaining to do on that one lol.
i know tritone subs so the 7 is a B that would mean you are putting some sort of F chord there and in your right hand i see D E A C# E. looks like an A sus or something to me. i like the sound, just curious how you come up with that chord there or what you would call it.
Thank you for taking the time to post the details. If you have a minute, would you email me just the chord chart. I agree with the prior post, God will bless you for your works. Look at the current views, 112,000+. It is qutie outstanding how God is working in you. Be blessed, Sean
thanks a lot for this tutorial you did great and I appreciate the time invested to help us all out. God Bless you and keep learning and keep teaching. what you sow you reap and your reaping in others lives. Thanks God recompense you.
We shouldn't argue on here but it's funny because of his Matthew 7.5 reference. In contemporary language Jesus is saying first take the log out of your eye than you will be able to see so that you may take the spec out of your brother's eye. It seems as though he is the one with the log in his eye. God Bless you all. And let' learn how to play this great song!
Very good instructional. Only suggestion is to be careful how you write your flats and sharps...for example, for the 3 chord you should've written E B E/G# B E instead of E B E/Ab B E...there's no Ab in E major.
Can i ask you for a favor? God has blessed me with the piano skills, except I play better in A flat...I have the basic chords, but could u do the whole song with your added chords in A flat?
The hardest way is the best way. The song is in C -so u start working with it in the key of C. (Most vocals will be at ease in the same key it's wrote in) The big pros out there will tell u to practice ur fav. song in all 12 keys. It's a good work out for u. -EB
Loved the lesson...only do you have any advice to those that play by ear? I'm not much of a note reader...I guess God blessed me to play by ear! That actually helped me out. Thanks.
Whats interesting is that many gospel musicians that play "by ear" understand music theory. They may not practice the actually reading of notes from sheet music, but they understand musical patterns. I would love to discuss this with you. Hit me up!
Thank you so much...I would be honored if you would give me a few pointers...It's good that I play by ear, only it would be even better if I knew what major and minors are! It takes me days to learn a song by ear...but with your help I could learn it in less than 30 minutes learning the notes!
think of the major/minor scales as a series of whole steps and half steps.a step is the distance between the notes.A half step is the next closest note up from the note you are playing and a whole step is 2 half steps
You can use these formulas to find the major/minor scale of any key
R=root note(the main note of the key you are playing in)
when some people are looking for higher position in churches ,you are in you tube spreading the gospel of our savior through this melody you are amazing keep on bro I love you much and I'll praye for you ; I wish i can even play a little like you... you are good very good.thanks God bless you man.
I really appreciate you placing these on the web. do you know and will you place Fred Hammonds "Thank you (I won't complain)" off of his "Free to worship" cd. Thank you
Thank you so much. I am not a music major and I can't play in every key, so it really gets to me sometimes when I can't play in other keys. I play for my church so I am working on not transposing my keyboard everytime I need to change keys. Thanks for making it easy.
Man, you are an absolute God send. I was given the task of teaching this song to a youth choir and was pressed for time and resources and I stumbled across your instructional video. May God give you back 100-fold the resources you have invested in this effort.
I have been really blessed by your talent. Thank you so much for your patience. I would like to have the chord progressions for sounds of blackness "Hold on a change is coming." I have most of it done, but ther are some changes in the middle(the bridge that I'm not sure about. Can you help me?
OMG! This is so wonderful! I really wanted to learn this song and this is broken down to where even myself at an intermediate level was able to understand! What a blessing
Can you please post "Encourage Yourself" by Donald Lawrence? You're a great player and teacher. I like how you break down each chord. VERY VERY helpful...

That's called a tritone substitution, it gives the 7 3 6 a juicier sound.

i definitely find this video helpful! and i agree with ericsmiley...nice teaching method.
and to theroyalpriest...i believe you're example for the minor key should have been C-D-Eb-F-G-"Ab"-B-C ....instead of G#.
