That's not a stupid idea mate, Don't forget yabbie and rabbit snares, and a fishing hand line. and a small tent and swag. But fresh water may not be so close. Near a fresh water stream you can do the same and drink it. don't forget a pot to cook and boil water. cheers
Have you considered putting emergency food like BP-5 in your BOB? The nutritional value to weight/space ratio is much better than cans. Since you'll only be carrying a few days worth of food in your BOB, the taste isn't as important.
nice working progress :) but i would suggest you put a bigger knife in there i know you've already got the knives in the multi tool but having a big knife would be a essential tool to have, if you want you can have two eg a bowie and/or machete.
If you have adequate clean water where you are going, dried food and vitamins are a better idea. You need to go high calorie high density. In cold climates, carbs, protien, and water are critical.
Staying warm will be really important. The gun's are good, and the ability to make fire. I missed the salt, you will be busted without that, not just to eat, but it is a good disinfectant/ preservative.
Love your videos.....But man....Your bag is WAY TOO HEAVY!......A bottle of bleach is worth gold, btw.....Also....You need 'something' for shelter.....I'd go dried food.....Multi tools are nice, but imo, they are are made cheaply and are too mechanical...Get a non folder knife.....Add a few fishing hooks, some line and 'something' to read(I brought some edible plant book....Because you WILL get bored!...Bugged out for 3 months after my divorce...ha/ha....Other than that....Nice pack...

You are a unique individual. My guess is that most black men are not prepping and unfortunately for them will be the first casualties of a wrol situation as they turn to crime to survive.
Thanks for all your videos and updates. Have started investing in essentials for bugging out/in. Could easily have blown £30-£40 in a video game, but it's just not an option anymore. I see a bug out bag like a life support machine

I think you have too many canned items...they'll be too heavy to carry...you can buy the tuna in a light weight plastic to go package.....but hey youre on the right trck!! Im just starting my bag.
You are correct in thinking you do not need a BOB in Alaska. Only people in densely populated areas are bags like that a must. But then again once you bug out... WHERE WILL YOU GO. Are you going to go out to the country and try and squat on us redneck's land???? Or fight over unpopulated land full of resources with others who have bugged out.
nice vid but no worries where you live - perhaps you should plan for what might happen in your area, such as power outages, having an extra heat source, food for yourself, etc.maybe fill a few gas cans for feul for vehicles.
u should get better nives than that china crap look like it cost 15 buck at walmart get case knive or benchmade knives are the best buck allright but half there crap is made in china now
@ST4leave The point is some stuff made in China are crap, but not all. I appreciate Chinese products because the low prices keep our cost of living low. We in America make some good products and some junk too. Peace bra!
you need to rethink about your bug out preparation ur actually gonna bring canned food in a bug out bag? are you serious? cant you try to atleast think up of a better idea and create a homemade MRE out of those, man you need alot of things to sort out.
ya but they dont last thats why they are issued with every can of b rations cause they brake constantly he should have got a multi-tool with a can opener
@clearlyme2u if that happened here now this place would rip itself apart with civil unrest...Even on a good day the groceries stores in Anchorage dont have wat you find in the lower 48s in way of stocks..i have went to grab a box of something from a shelf and was shocked that the stocks are always pulled to the front of the shelf to appear full..it happens all the time....We just had a 6.8 down the coast near BC today..if that hit here...F ME!
Dude! You're so fortunate to live in Alaska! The food is walking around outside everywhere there. I live in AZ and when SHTF in a few weeks I don't think I'll get through all my food if you hear what I'm saying. I need a Katadyne Packer the one that filters 13,000 gallons. I also need some more ammo, more food, a windmill and some solar panels to power the water pump. Oh and most importantly a 4x4 cause the car I'm paying for can't go off road. Dangit this video showed how much I'm not prepared
Just a thought, but maybe you should have a bug-out vehicle,...start stocking an entire vehicle and take it as far as you can. A bike and a trail map might be something else to look into. I wish i had the $ to stock up the way I need to..so I guess I will have to make do with what I can. Best of luck to you.
you need some wilderness gear. check out dave canterbury from wildnessoutfitters on youtube. the man is a true guru and anyone who knows of him can vouch for that.
Like you said you may not need a bug out bag but your cabinets are bare...you really need to stock up if you need to sit in place. Not sure if you hunt or not but stock up on food you would like to eat and of course MORE ammo. Great video!! I enjoyed it.
Demcad, Great vid! Some items that I have in my bag that you may want to consider: Water filter (most inmportant!) Poncho (for rain and shade) p-38 multiple fire starters map of local area list of contacts first aid kit 22 gauge wire for snaring critters concealable firearm cash and silver dimes for bardering I have put some of my funds into junk silver, gold, cash, ammo, and heirloom seeds. Diversify!
of coarse its your decision man...but i would say put your money half in at most...no need to spend every penny...just get a few supplies but keep some money in reserve as well...thats what i would do
Just get a small boat, nobody will mess with you, and you can fish...
Get the can opener that wont cut you, they work better too, and you can reuse the cans for stash...If you use that soap the bears will want your body....lol... don't forget toilet paper..buy a girlfriend,, at least you wont be lonely..and have a smile on your face...
In my humble opinion, any money left over after you get what you need, buy silver with it. I'm sure you have heard it all before as to why everyone should own some silver, but also, keep it somewhere safe from theft. This is, of course, a long range suggestion. If you are going to need the money short term, I don't know what to tell you.
Gold and silver are th ebest investments, if you are sure of a long life. they will always be there for you.
However, people buying survival kit, will not be needing it (except for a small amount, to buy passage on boats etc.).
However, small deposits here and there, may lead someone to keeping you alive long enough for you to show them all your hiding places. This give s you chance to turn the tables.
Other than that, learning to skin and cook humans, may also be in demand.
After you've bought all the stuff, you need to go camping to show yourself how much different reality is, and how you will never beable to carry half of what you bought.
It also teaches you about the things you FORGOT to buy !
You will soon find out what they are, if you spoend 3 days out in the hills.
Also, an elephant gun (which should sort out the bear problem). And some butchery practice, so you can eat the bears. Its looking better already.
too much soap , you want something to sleep in and some thing to cook in .
sleeping bag or blanket maybe a goretex bixy bag or a tarp or poncho ditch the can opener and get a swiss army knife that is as good a tin opener as you will need and is smaller than your can opener .
normally wear outdoor clothes and walking boots then add to that , the lowest type of bug out should be stuff you carry in your pockets then expand to what you would carry in a small pack then to a big pack
A shovel will not only enable you to bury your waste, but will help you to dig a massive hole, which, in the event of a govt attack, you can hide things in, to go back later.
Also, a dog would help, cus he can sniff out other peopel's buried things.
sorry to post 2 comments in a row but i ran out of space to address the money question. you could always keep the money in currency for but convert it out of dollars. canadian dollars might be a good idea since its more stable and is very close to your location.
i didn't read all the comments but a flash light with spare batteries and a decent sized quality folding knife seem like good items for anyone. even if they dont plan on 'bugging out' but doing something mundane in the dark, or cutting open a stubborn package.
being in alaska i'd definitely bring sunglasses to eliminate any chance of snow blindness, one of those metal shielded emergency blankets and some salt because it makes everything taste better and its dirt cheap.
As for your money dilemma. . . If you don't feel you need additional supplies ,or there's some left over after doing that, I'd be inclined to "perserve your wealth" by converting it to gold and/or silver. A small stash of cash at home isn't a bad idea either, incase of future bank holidays.
Reginald -- have you tried dried fruit? It's lighter, smaller to store, and lb. for lb. much more nutrient packed than canned fruit. And if you get a dehydrator (Excalibur brand recommended), you can make your own!
I'm going to get chastised for this, but I do not have and am not planning on making a bug-out bag. I'm in the semi-country, we have our own manual water source, garden, supplies, self-defense, and livestock. Plus, we have family and good neighbors here. We will not leave. And that's good because we have no other place to go. Whatever comes, this is where we'll face it.
p.s. i would consider a bugout ROOM. It doesnt have to be for survival mode. It can be a hedge against inflation. Higher food prices are going to really hurt a lot of people and if you can stock it w/ currently priced food items, it could save you LOTS of future dough. Id aim for 6mths to 1 yr of goodies. 20 lb bags of rice and 8 lb bags of dried beans are el cheapo - for now...
buy 'junk' silver (valued for its metal content): pre-1965 (64 and earlier) dimes, quarters. Theyre usually going for around 9x to 12x face value, so a silver quarter might currently cost about $2.50 or so. A $5 roll of dimes might go for $45-$60.
Reg - WTF? You live in Alaska! Where's all your smoked and vac-pac'd fish?? That will cut down on the weight and it's healthier than mercury filled tuna. Also, we got a couple of those buckets at Costco that have a 30 day supply of food, only like $85 each and they keep for a very long time. Something else we've been doing for awhile - buying scrap gold jewelry from pawn shops. Just a thought. Great vids, please keep them coming. :)
Being in an isolated area the odds of a bugout are small. Youre in the kind of place people bug out to, not from. Alaska has had several earthquakes & Tsunami`s so a BOB is still a good idea.
Don't forget multi vitamins stashed away somewhere. 200 tablets minimum. not the best thing to take in normal times, but canned ham has only so many nutirents in it.
As for money, it is not earning anything these days. Get stuff you're going to use anyway. Food will never be cheaper than it is now!
If you get equipment - make sure it holds its value at resale, or could at least trade it is for a truckload of stuff you migt need in post bug out days.
I have a stockpile of a variety of sardines. They do taste kind of gross. I am going to try and put some in a skillet and try them. at least the mustard ones.
i really like your vids you have a great personality. remember typically bug out bags are 72 hr and you should prepare for your specific environment. that is alot of food you would be packing there and some things like a rain pancho, thermal blanket, tarp you might want to pack so you dont get sick from the elements. i would assume you would hunker down in your house and would not need a bug out bag but i enjoyed seeing what you had.
Jesus H Christ on a cracker! OK if you've EVER gone on a long distance marches or hikes you would know weight is NOT your friend. The idea of a "bug out bag" is when shit truly hits the fan. I would recommended things with extremely high calories and lots of ammo with a .22 or a high pressure air gun. Also some kind of bag to store water (from rain), tarps etc. . . Remember what ever you pack you carry! I don't mean to hate. I'm Alaskan & Prior US Army Infantry.
Finally, some more about how to get ready, yeah, I had to make the decision to go all in.
For me it came done to this;
If thing dont make sense in the news today, if you think the feds are lying to you about how bad thing really are, and how bad things will get, then maybe its time to take some proactive steps/countermeasures to protect you and yours.
and dont feel like your going overboard, because you are not...you are on the right track for sure....I am maybe a bit extreem, I even built an underground hidden bunker...if its bad with looters you can shoot them, however, military you need a place to hide, and under the bed wont do...people need to plan a VERY good hiding place when and if the military go door to door....
Pasta, rice are good choices. Dried fruit, granola and jerky are good too. Tuna in the pouches is better. Cans are bulky and heavy. An army surplus P-38 can opener fits on a key chain. You are making a plan and that is a good start.
Reggie, China isn't loaning us money anymore. We only account for 5% of their exporting GDP.
I would start buying 1oz bars of silver bullion if I were you. They are going for about 15 bucks. No way silver is going to actually end up costing less. If you look at the gains of silver over the dow and even GOLD, it is a much better investment than gold.
Get your money out and put it into commodity before it's too late!
You should invest in a good rod, reel, and some tackle. Find all the places you can fish in the area. Use Google maps to find lakes that might be just up the road. As far as food goes your surrounded by it. Use the internet to find out the local vegetation that can be gathered and eaten safely. Get some good thermal clothing for extreme temperatures up there. Also check out what types of game are in the area for hunting if you must. You could also buy a solar panel for charging batteries.
If you hadn't started a a video blog what would you have done with it? That's your answer. If you're not already set with a degree I would invest in a new education. That's your best preperation against anything. That's what I'm doing. Other than that get into some mutual funds and let it acrue 8% interest. You're young. You will have money again. Don't freak out.
What good are 50 bags of rice, boxes of ammunition, and pessimism when this channel is gone in a year because there is no more bad news to report? Don't put your eggs in one basket. I know for certain some of you have kids and you're draining their college fund in favor of your movement. It's good to read between the lines, but pretty soon what you own, owns you. 50 little red thumbs down on this post aren't going to stop cooler heads from prevailing.
I will tell you a story.. It looks like you are trying to decide between making a memory, or investing wisely. When my Dad died, my sisters and I inherited some money.. My sisters invested the money, I took a cruise and a few other trips. I have great memories..they lost most of it in the stock market. I do think it is important to save some for a rainy day, but you just cannot live in fear of what may happen. If you do, you are already dying slowly.. Just my opinion..
get a pair of thermal pants and top. they are like spandex and really snug almost like a wet suit but in freezing temperatures you'll wish you had them. something light with really big wheels would be the easiest way to efficiently carry many supplies.
You're wise to put your money into survival goods and equipment. That's where I've been putting most of my extra money since november of 2007. I wouldn't recommend keeping any of that money in a bank. Instead, put it into precious metals, diversifying some into ammo.
For your bugout bag (in alaska) your first priority should be keeping hypothermia away. That means heavy insulated clothing, an arctic sleeping bag and a good tent. Research how to build a debris hut too.
Make sure you have a good tent and sleeping bag in your kit as well. Pack up everything in your pack to see if you can handle the weight- you don't want to discard something valuable in an emergency. Good video again with common sense information. God Bless!
I know what you mean by making a personal decision to "go all out." I made my decision back in October when the stock market collapse and I was watching economic indicators. Also, I'm a history buff, it was easy for me to reach my decision. The US economy is collapsing right in front of us NOW! I am commiting most of my time and money in supplies and gardening to salvage a little from this collapse. I am the only member of my family who believes that we are in a Depression now
small stove... i recommend a butane stove, extra butane canisters for the stove, map of your area, small tri fold shovel, more ammo, portable water containers, and a bible
hmm.. i suggest you get a good durable mountain pack with your money.. also bring some heavy duty garbage bags, mess kit, a few long lasting emergency candles, a small and powerful tripleA LED flashlight with extra batteries, machete, hunting knife, 3 in 1 coffee packetts, extra matches and lighters, add some extra clothing in your bag, crack radio with flashlight, be sure to have rugged hiking footwear, water filtration device,
It would be wise to get a can opener with less moving parts. Moving parts and machinery are the enemy in rugged living. I would also invest in a Kabar combat knife. PS. you do not know frustration until you try to open a can with a butter knife. I have perfected it but its dangerous.
An Idea for your bugg out bag. For your bag you might be interested in a Large A.L.I.C.E. pack. If you want food that is light weight and will last a long time, try getting some MRE's. And you might want some cleaning supplies for your gun. A rip-stop poncho with some 550 para cord would be good too. Plus some water purifacation tablets. And lastly, get a good amount of gauze and or feild dressings along with a terniquite incase of serious injuries. I hope this helps friend.
I think Yams are good to stock up on as they hold for six months without refrigeration. They can be peeled easily with your hunting knife and are a storehouse for carbohydrates which provide incredible energy for your body. Even outside of your food preparation..it's just wonderful to have Yams on hand. I love them. You can make a nice hash out of them for breakfast..boil them like a potato for dinner. It would make a great addition to your list of survival foods.
Sorry to keep posting, but, I also think that you should stock up on 100% Aloe Vera Juice/Gel. The stuff contains over 200 compounds that cures illness such as skin disorders, indigestion, it's a natural blood thinner like warfarin..so it will help prevent heart attacks & the list goes on. But, I'd look at some naturalistic healing herbs, juices and berries. Consider buying a cheap dehydrator and start dehydrating and storing fruits like bananas, berries you can make your own raisins as well.
Invest in some really good clothing...Heavy duty boots, jeans, socks etc. You might be surprised how quickly your tennis shoes will wear out in the woods. AND get a few pairs of leather gloves for the B.O.B.
Bug out bag? I remeber years ago when people were building bomb shelters.lol It's the same hysteria. Wether the system collapses or not something will replace it and people will buy and sell that is something that has been going on for thousands of years.
yea, the dog food chili, snd really all stuff in can except sardines, maybe are not good choices. Water filter, small guns/bullets, dried food, dried herbs, cash, toilet paper(flat),batteryless items.
Maybe a couple TP rolls....smoked salmon dried fruits, more nuts, emergency blanket, flashlight, tho it stays pretty much light up there this time of year.
Don't know bout ev'one else but if things collapse with a major shift come summer/fall this yr, all debts are off-I ain't paying. Like VV said bout Credcard, I send the Fed all my bills. LOTS bullets.
Got my 72 hour emergency bags. I also have week long emergency reserves in the trunk of my family's vehicle. I am now getting emergency kits prepared for other family members and giving them as gifts. Some of them will think I am nuts but a few of them will appreciate my gift. I hope it is one gift they never have to use.
A bug out bag is a great thing to have. I lived in LA during the riots .... I had to bug out from my business - they torched the buildings all around me. You never know when you need to run and for what reason. I fully expect riots in the streets within the next decade ... probably sooner than later.
guys you can prepare for the collapse all you want, but this economic problem will happen again and again until we destroy the source of the problem, which is the greedy people running our economy.
Agree. But I've also heard some experts say that what they're doing right now will destroy the "Boom-Bust" cycle for good. In a bad way. as in collapse.
Bug out bag tips what r u going to do if u have to leave the comfort of yr apt and survive in the wild? after the food cans r gone then what? well u need the right tools & knowledge for survival check out dave canterbury's utube channel at wildernessoutfitters he's the best around!
had the same thoughts about savings wortless in the bank at 3%interest could loose to inflation .. so decided... one third ..dehydrated foods a few years food stuffs one third silver..coins and bars and a third ..cash .. stashed in jars with rice to keep it dry.. all a man can really do...
Unfortunately many people have a preconcieved, almost romantic notion, that living in the wild is fairly straightforward, even quite enjoyable. Unless one has experiance of actually doing it the chances of actually surviving for any time is very very low.
Would be good idea to stockpile a large amount of food somewhere secret in the environment. Bury it!
Not that much money. The rewards outweight the cons man. They are flocking like crazy to alaska already. I know tons of californians that think its the promiseland now cause of Sarah Palin.
Californians go to Alaska becuse of Sarah Palin? Let me be blunt---only a moron would follow Sarah Palin. Doubt she has ever read a book---that is one simple mind in that head.

This is exactly the kind of reason YOU NEED a B.O.B.
You are off to a good start but yes add to it a refine it.

In my humble opinion, any money left over after you get what you need, buy silver with it. I'm sure you have heard it all before as to why everyone should own some silver, but also, keep it somewhere safe from theft. This is, of course, a long range suggestion. If you are going to need the money short term, I don't know what to tell you.
elpilotoazul 2 years ago
Gold and silver are th ebest investments, if you are sure of a long life. they will always be there for you.
However, people buying survival kit, will not be needing it (except for a small amount, to buy passage on boats etc.).
However, small deposits here and there, may lead someone to keeping you alive long enough for you to show them all your hiding places. This give s you chance to turn the tables.
Other than that, learning to skin and cook humans, may also be in demand.

You buy the gold, i will dig it up, with my shovel !
mikeybrumbrum 2 years ago
After you've bought all the stuff, you need to go camping to show yourself how much different reality is, and how you will never beable to carry half of what you bought.
It also teaches you about the things you FORGOT to buy !
You will soon find out what they are, if you spoend 3 days out in the hills.
Also, an elephant gun (which should sort out the bear problem). And some butchery practice, so you can eat the bears. Its looking better already.

I never understood all the "fire-starter" gizmos I see on survivalist sites when a few Bic lighters weigh less, last a year(s) and cost about $1each.
You'll also need duct tape, in case you have a female accompanying you. You'll need something to stop the nagging.

too much soap , you want something to sleep in and some thing to cook in .
sleeping bag or blanket maybe a goretex bixy bag or a tarp or poncho ditch the can opener and get a swiss army knife that is as good a tin opener as you will need and is smaller than your can opener .
normally wear outdoor clothes and walking boots then add to that , the lowest type of bug out should be stuff you carry in your pockets then expand to what you would carry in a small pack then to a big pack
bearsagainstevil 2 years ago
SHOVEL !
A shovel will not only enable you to bury your waste, but will help you to dig a massive hole, which, in the event of a govt attack, you can hide things in, to go back later.
Also, a dog would help, cus he can sniff out other peopel's buried things.

sorry to post 2 comments in a row but i ran out of space to address the money question. you could always keep the money in currency for but convert it out of dollars. canadian dollars might be a good idea since its more stable and is very close to your location.
good luck with what ever you decide to do.
nthanon 2 years ago
i didn't read all the comments but a flash light with spare batteries and a decent sized quality folding knife seem like good items for anyone. even if they dont plan on 'bugging out' but doing something mundane in the dark, or cutting open a stubborn package.
being in alaska i'd definitely bring sunglasses to eliminate any chance of snow blindness, one of those metal shielded emergency blankets and some salt because it makes everything taste better and its dirt cheap.

Bandaids, fishing pole, dutch oven, solar oven, food dehydrator, wind-up radio, t.p., deodorant, toothbrush, dental floss, pop-up greenhouse, homesteading books (like foxfire), candles, solar lights, dehydrated eggs, tea etc.

I can't believe no one here is suggesting MRE's for bug-out bags. If I was doing one, that's what I'd use for the food part.
Michigansnowpony 2 years ago
As for your money dilemma. . . If you don't feel you need additional supplies ,or there's some left over after doing that, I'd be inclined to "perserve your wealth" by converting it to gold and/or silver. A small stash of cash at home isn't a bad idea either, incase of future bank holidays.
Michigansnowpony 2 years ago
Reginald -- have you tried dried fruit? It's lighter, smaller to store, and lb. for lb. much more nutrient packed than canned fruit. And if you get a dehydrator (Excalibur brand recommended), you can make your own!
Michigansnowpony 2 years ago
I'm going to get chastised for this, but I do not have and am not planning on making a bug-out bag. I'm in the semi-country, we have our own manual water source, garden, supplies, self-defense, and livestock. Plus, we have family and good neighbors here. We will not leave. And that's good because we have no other place to go. Whatever comes, this is where we'll face it.
Michigansnowpony 2 years ago
p.s. i would consider a bugout ROOM.

Lurple 2 years ago
Being in an isolated area the odds of a bugout are small. Youre in the kind of place people bug out to, not from. Alaska has had several earthquakes & Tsunami`s so a BOB is still a good idea.
mmmmmnnnnn55555 2 years ago
Don't forget multi vitamins stashed away somewhere. 200 tablets minimum. not the best thing to take in normal times, but canned ham has only so many nutirents in it.
As for money, it is not earning anything these days. Get stuff you're going to use anyway. Food will never be cheaper than it is now!
If you get equipment - make sure it holds its value at resale, or could at least trade it is for a truckload of stuff you migt need in post bug out days.

and dont feel like your going overboard, because you are not...you are on the right track for sure....I am maybe a bit extreem, I even built an underground hidden bunker...if its bad with looters you can shoot them, however, military you need a place to hide, and under the bed wont do...people need to plan a VERY good hiding place when and if the military go door to door....

Get your money out and put it into commodity before it's too late!
drewd1987 2 years ago
You should invest in a good rod, reel, and some tackle. Find all the places you can fish in the area. Use Google maps to find lakes that might be just up the road. As far as food goes your surrounded by it. Use the internet to find out the local vegetation that can be gathered and eaten safely. Get some good thermal clothing for extreme temperatures up there. Also check out what types of game are in the area for hunting if you must. You could also buy a solar panel for charging batteries.

Research how to build a debris hut too.
vention4wh 2 years ago 2
Make sure you have a good tent and sleeping bag in your kit as well. Pack up everything in your pack to see if you can handle the weight- you don't want to discard something valuable in an emergency. Good video again with common sense information. God Bless!

Store a few of them in a small mesh bag for portability. You can get a nice mesh bag at walmart in the laundry section.

HaloofArchemides 2 years ago

Would be good idea to stockpile a large amount of food somewhere secret in the environment. Bury it!
