I remember seeing this song performed back in '77 and this rendition is by far better. Thayer is not a pimple on ACE's BUTT. Definitely a better group than now. Today's line-up is more like a cover band. Paul and Gene should give it up unless Ace and Peter come back.

@keyblok exactly. I don't think it's Ace improvising his solo as much as it was he couldn't play it. If I recall correctly before the Reunion Tour and during, Tommy Thayer had to for the most part teach Ace his own lead parts all over again because Ace couldn't remember them. Now, I'm not hating on Ace for I have been a KISS fan since '75 and I love Ace, but it was this type of playing that ultimately lead to his departure.

The reason is because Ace's solos aren't that technically difficult from a experienced guitar players point of view and can be played note for note just like Tommy Thayer does every show for KISS (waiting for the hate mail here). Please know I've been a KISS fan since '75 and I love Ace, but also know it was Ace's inability to play in a consistent fashion due to his issues that ultimately lead to his departure.

@stringbenderE2E I have to be honest, I don't think I've actually ever heard or seen Tommy play, so I am not a good judge of his playing. I do remember that Bruce Kulick was a good guitarist. My main point that all of the Wanna Be Aces are just copying what the Space Ace laid down. In some cases (Bruce), they actually play it cleaner but the style came from Ace and Ace played a huge part in KISS' success. I met Ace backstage in the 70s and he was very cool.

I suppose what Eric and Tommy did was allow us to re-live the excitement of the best Rock and Roll show ever put on. In a way, it's almost like a Broadway play. For everyone that's trashing the present lineup and begging for the original lineup, calm down. I love KISS, and I want the original lineup back as well, but the new lineup is what we have. It's not like Ace and Peter are begging to rejoin KISS. Both of them had drug problems and became unreliable. Gene and Paul did what every other musician would do, and hired replacements. Eric and Tommy are good musicians who are doing their jobs well in KISS, and the band still rocks.
