Sanding will weaken it and yes you can cut higher but your flex is totally wrong then and I don't think you have the strength to utilize the stick at that point

Not this stick, It is a true one piece stick and the taper is thinner than the hosel on a tapered replacement blade.

No, not just paint. When I sanded the paint, the carbon that makes up the stick started to sand off just like the paint and turned into a fine powder dust.
