Sure, but it can't run Mac programs. And a cheap PC won't be able to run any program it likes, it won't be able to handle some programs. But a Mac can, and a Mac can run Mac and Windows apps. A Mac apps often carry a level of sophistication that can't be found in Windows.

I've used open office and neo office, and it's rather funky. My personal favourite is iWork, it beats both Microsoft Office and OpenOffice. It's easy to create a lot of nice documents in Pages, and presentations in Keynote, and Numbers is really nice for managing things. On the other hand, Microsoft Word takes years to load up and then doesnt even let me freely drag images in my document. Really sucks...

It's OSes aren't really good at all... The only thing good about them is that theres all these games for Windows. 64 bit Windows is still far in the future, and even though it's out already, how many people use 64 bit Windows? Yet mac os x leopard is 64 bit and supports way more memory than Windows. And you can install Windows on it to play games. Win for all!
