  • The best singer in the world

  • @itzjoeymac Not even the best singer of this song.

  • How could any man listen to this and not be "home, still in love" with Kristin Chenoweth?!

  • She is so Amazing......I hope GLEE brings her back.........I've seen her on Broadway...but I can't make that trip anymore....so I would love to see her on GLEE.

  • She is so amazing!

  • I. Love. Kristen. Chenoweth. <3

  • I love when Kristin does raw shows like this (as opposed to goofier shows like Wicked). It reminds me just how fantastic of an actress she is.

  • Marry me? Please?

  • This lady can sure sing....she nailed this song better than anyone else ever has IMO.

  • I'm so glad I came across Kristin Chenoweth. She's just the best. So proud to say she's my idol <3

  • I LOVE YOU SO MUCH KRISTIN!!

  • She's the best.

  • She looks like a mix between Michelle Pfeiffer an E.T. here!

  • amazing wig

  • I love how she guest-starred on "Glee" in the same episode when this was sung.

  • @uglyfudge And then sang part of it in the same episode.

  • My friends mom grew up with her. Now I know that there's only one degree of separation between me and Cheno.

  • Are you kiddin' me? AWESOME SINGER

  • i saw this live!!! it was my first broadway show (on broadway anyway) and perfect.

  • I would do anything to cook a fabulous dinner for Miss Chenoweth.

  • kristin can we get married and have beautiful babies.

  • @harryp1996 WTF

  • Kristen I love you... You voice moves me and fills my sole,,,,, thank you so much,

  • She is small but her voice is huge! Gorgeous Kristin!

  • she's in her mid-60s huh?!

  • @gainguide She is 42. Not 65.

  • @sweetfuckingchrist

pardon me i didnt mean to hurt someones feeling about her but for real she looks 65yrs old.

  • @gainguide If I look that good at 65, there is a God.

  • @sweetfuckingchrist

    but you're an atheist.

  • @gainguide it's true she looks a lot older in this show than I'm used to seeing her. Of course, I usually watch her Wicked show and she looks very young there. But sixty five is a little much even for me. Still she is a beautiful woman:)

  • @maipigenDK 65? Ummm...no! She's 42, almost 43!

  • @icomeandgobybubble87 I know, see the comment I commented on before correcting me;)

  • @gainguide my gosh people around you must be gorgeous :o ...

  • @EliseWhatever

you bet your bottom dollar they're all drop dead gorgeous!

  • @gainguide No, she's in her 40's

  • Kurt sang this on glee, not Kristen. And I think Kristen AND Idina are the best broadway singers of this time

  • @BroadwayAtHeart17 actually she sang it too she sang a mash up of this and one less bell on that same episode when kurt sung it

  • She Was Amazing Live

  • Her rendition gives me shivers! Beautiful...

  • Kristin Chenoweth is perfection.

  • i love kristen shes so good, but i dont think i could sit through a whole show without bieng so annoyed. she does this ANNOYING vocal jump/squeak thing at the end of long relatively high notes. like at the end of the note at :08 kinda like Lea does that wierd slide. i dont know, theyd be way better if they just stopped that.

  • 2 people don't have a home

  • best singer ever, why did she not get a tony nom?

  • i love love love you kristin, but sitting there opening night experiencing this amazing show, when you sung this song i could only think- "omg!!! NO ONE can sing this song better than luther vandross!!" not hating on you love, but this song will always and forever be luther's. ^_^ xoxox

  • beautiful show<333 I just saw it, I am so sad it's closing! Molly, Kristin and Sean were amazing! The cast even signed my book and got pictures after waiting by the door! Superstars, all of them.

  • the show closes on Jan 2. I saw it few days ago. It was soo good. Surprised it is closing. But I guess perhaps Kristin and Sean's contract is up and producers feel the only way to pack the house was two have those two stay hence closure of the show? Sean sang surprisingly well. Kristin, well, need I say more. Sean was very funny. Molly Shannon and Sean together is just hilarious. Highly recommended.

  • I saw this on saturday night. The bit when she just belts out the "well i'm not meant to live alone" etc was the most incredible experience ever! I don't think i've ever known anyone as talented as Cheno.

To any one who hasn't see it, GO. Sean Hayes was incredibly funny, Kristin was just phenomenal and Molly shannon was hilarious :)

  • That's funny she sang this in Glee...SING ON KRISTIN!

  • @jakemkay Was it to advertise Promises Promises her appearance?

  • omgomgomgg just saw this 2day & i died! sean hayes & her were amazingg!! i lovedd the show soo much & at the end of the show kristen & sean stayed on stage & created an auction 4 the 1st time 4 some1 who had the highest bid 2 go on stage & kristen wuld sing "popular" from wicked 2 them!! sadly i didnt win but she was amazingg! it was crazzyy hearing her sing a song she hasnt performed in years!! shess an amazingg woman!

  • This is such a white-bread version. Plain. Boring. After hearing Betty Buckley sing this, Kristin completely pales in comparison.

  • @Malcolm40 she hasn't. She says she very occasionaly has small amounts of Botox but nothing more. In this video the only thing is that she looks slimmer than usual which is why it enhances her features. She stated in her book that she often looses weight unintentionaly when she does a production. That's all it is

  • Loved the play!

  • I am dying that she's had plastic surgery on her nose, cheeks, chin neck, lips are different, etc.... Our society is so screwed up. I still think you're the best Kristin!

  • I am dying that she's had plastic surgery on her nose, cheeks, chin neck, lips are different, etc.... Our society is so screwed up. I still think you're the best Kristin!

  • It's so refreshing to see someone so talented and yet still humble. I wish the media would cover Cheno more and Palin less.

  • @ensemble10 yet that statement implies that palin is talented, which is of course false :)

  • @tanan18 - The comparison is being made because of their religious beliefs, not because of their talent level.

  • @tanan18 - The comparison is being made because of their religious beliefs, not because of their talent level.

  • damn she looks wicked old here...

  • Possibly one of the most talented singers on broadyway at the moment. She is just incredible! I want her to come to Britain!

  • I am so surprised this song was interpolated into "Promises, Promises." It's a pop song that really doesn't match the rest of the score. I adore Kristin and she is without peer but I'm afraid it's true. Her interpretation works against the meaning, mood and emotion of the song. The Pearl Bailey version I agree is definitive but the Dionne Warwick version is the true hallmark, no performing, just pure emotion and truth. There is a difference between acting a song and living it.

  • i love u kristin!!!!

  • now i see why she sung this on glee...

  • @ninime101 She sang this on Glee because it went with the story they were telling in that episode. Purely coincidental. :)

  • The greatest rendition of this song was by Pearl Bailey, in a recording produced by Benny Carter. No other performance captures the meaning of this heartbreaking song and its poignant tale of betrayal and loss and regret.

  • @TheBoscoRat

    In your humble opinion

  • @croguy I've heard both. When you've heard both, tell me what you think.

  • @croguy Have you heard the Pearl Bailey rendition yet? I challenge anyone who listens to it not to agree that it is unsurpassed.

  • I just Love Her, she could she Mary Had a Little Lamb and I'd be captivated.

  • A House is not a Home is from this play as well?

At this rate, its a neck and neck tie as to which late 60's musical had more top 40 hits, Promises, Promises or Hair

  • Oh holy Christ she is magnificent.

  • They wrote some songs she sang in glee into this for her to sing

  • Comment removed

  • @EmOnBroadway so they put the songs she sang in this into glee??

  • @cocowizard1 No they put the songs sge was going to sing in this in glee, burt baccarach and promises promises are from long before glee was even dreamed of, therefore far more significant and influential, they would not rewrite a broadway producition to accomodate glee. it was the other way round dear. They put them in glee as she was rehersing for this show when she filmed glee

  • have they made a studio soundtrack for this play yet?

  • Why here, in Brasil, we dont have talents like her!?

  • she sung this on glee

  • i prefer her singing the glee version its in a nicer key and the arrangement is better-with the brass section and stuff

  • @difficlty Yeah they just used Barbra Streisand's arrangement from the "Barbra Joan Streisand" Album its also my favorite.

  • Is it just me or does Kristin look alot like Michelle Pfieffer when Pfieffer did the Hairspray movie.

Not my fav performance by Kristin....but it was alright.

  • Darling, have a heart!!!!!!!!

  • angeldelaguarda: What you don't realize about acting is this: you have to fit your instincts and feelings to the material. The material is the starting point, the material is paramount and must be honoured. And in musical theatre, the material includes the music. It's not a free-for-all, and Kristen Chenoweth would be the first to tell you that.If you are not an experienced performer, you may not realize that.A good performer will find a way to do both. That's where the work comes in.

  • ..are often afraid to tell them anything, and I bet that's what happened here. Kristen was not nominated for a Tony for this. This song is sung in a self-indulgent way and those who are knowledgeable about Bacharach, who is a genius, know she didn't sing it as it needed to be sung. And since you don't know who I am, you shouldn't assume that she knows more than I do...No "star", not Kristen Chenoweth or anyone,is perfect and exempt from criticism. So grab a brain you idiot!

  • Okay omgitsrebeccab: Did you even read what I wrote? And have you ever heard of reviewers? Are they entitled to critique performers who have reached "complete stardom"? Do they have business commenting? Then so do I and so does anyone. Stardom does not make you exempt from critique. ALL performers are subject to critique - that's part of the job. And smart performers learn from critiques and are open to constructive criticism. The problem is that when a star is too big, people around them...

  • Shivers down my spine...

  • I have front row centre seats to this in two weeks!

ahhh! can't wait to see kristin chenoweth performing just FEET away from me!

love love love her! she is one amazingly talented woman!

  • @melizmatea your a total douche..as if you culd do better..stop complainign..no ones cares as much as you do..just stop being a total doucher

  • ctd. the music would be sung as it was written, and that the '60's flavour would be retained in a period piece...how strange of me! Look, no-one's perfect, even a big star like Kristen Chenoweth. I've already said I love her, that's why I'm so disappointed by this. She should know better. It's self-indulgent. She needs to serve the material first, and her desire to get carried away second.

  • ctd. for the show, since it's a period piece.Soprano, clearly you aren't familiar with Dionne Warwick either. You need to listen to her as well. Or listen to other recording artists from the '60's who covered his songs e.g.Dusty Springfield, Fifth Dimension.Or go get some sheet music and take a look at it.By the way, I saw the show.I didn't just listen to her on Youtube. She lost what was special about the music by taking those liberties. And yes,I did have a bizarre preconceived notion that

  • Soprano: I am not saying that she should sing like Dionne Warwick!!!Dionne is a recording artist. You wouldn't cast that sort of a voice for theatre. What I'm saying is that Dionne sings the music the way it should be sung, musically e.g.she adheres to the unique time signatures of his songs, which are part of what MAKES his songs so special. Also-Dionne is the quintessential interpreter of Bacharach songs. She epitomizes all they should be.They evoke a very specific time, and that is important

  • @melizmatea I dont Know, About Bacharach as much as you seem to know. But, this is musical Theater, And I know a little Bit about Acting, and if you dont make things as you actually feel you must do them, it doesnt work... NEVER.

Its not just About the music, and is not just about a specific time its about a Character and a feeling, that its different for every person... And I saw the show too and I can Assure You, that I was almost Crying in this song, because it was REAL! :D

  • @melizmatea I dont Know about Bacharach Music As much as you do. But I do know a little bit about acting, and this is Musical Theater.

If you dont do things as you feel it. Then it wont work. Never!!! I loved the entire perfomance, because it was real!!! Its not about the music, or specific times (Of course they are important) that's the difference between just a recording than Musical Theater.

And... you dont have to Win a Tony to be Awesome... :D not even being nominated jajaj

  • But I love Burt Bacharach too and I was aghast at the way she sang these songs. I think it's a little bit of wanking, quite frankly.

  • @melizmatea Your comments made me curious about how Dionne Warwick's performance was different from Kristin Chenoweth's so I looked up her version. The main difference that I noticed was not style. Dionne's voice works completely differently from Kristin's, if Kristin tried to sing it like Dionne then it would sound unnatural and uncomfortable. I think that what you're not liking is that it's not what you expected. To someone without a preconceived notion of what it should sound like it's great.

  • ctd. doesn't even make sense! Look, you don't have to agree with me, but you don't have to flip out about an opinion that's different from yours. if you enjoyed her performance, then fine. (Of course, you did realize that she didn't get a Tony nomination for this, right? So perhaps I'm not the only one who isn't that enthusiastic.)

Don't get me wrong.Normally I love Kristen. I thought she should have won the Tony for Wicked, quite frankly. And she's brilliant in everything else I've seen her in.

  • ctd. crazy liberties with a Sondheim song musically? How about that? His music is sacrosanct in the theatre community. Some composers can be interpreted more liberally, others can't or just shouldn't be. And I think this is one case where you have to find a happy medium between interpretation (because it is in a musical after all) and singing the song the way it was meant to be sung.

    3) "when a song is in a stage production of a musical play...to be sang"...whaaat?!Are you in highschool? That

  • Coffeybean44 & Jessica whatever:

    1) Obviously "Dionna" was a typo, duh. But apparently you don't like what I said so you're just looking for any excuse to jump all over me. (It's unlikely that a Bacharach enthusiast wouldn't know Dionne Warwick's name, genius.)

    2) Look Uta Hagen, you can don't need to take those sort of musical liberties with a song to communicate the feeling behind it. If you knew anything about musicals or interpreting a song, you'd know that. Do you think it's okay to take

  • ARGHHHHH! She's killing this song!!!!! In a bad way, I mean! And I love Kristin Chenoweth usually. But this is such an amazing song and she is not singing it the way it was written, and it HAS to be sung that way!!!! It's a pop song, a BACHARACH pop song, and that is very specific. It's not Rogers and Hart! Why is she doing that? She is a brilliant performer - it really bums me out. ARGHHHHH! Kristen, if you read this - go listen to a bunch of Dionna Warwick albums!!! It's not too late!

  • @melizmatea It's being sung this way to emphasize the storyline of the musical. She's supposed to be struggling with her relationship with a guy who's a jerk. And it's Dionne Warwick, not Dionna.

  • @melizmatea Have you seen this musical? Like coffey says, it's done this way for the storyline. When a song is in a stage production of a musical play, it transforms from when it's just singing it to be sang. In my personal opinion, Kristin Chenoweth does a BEAUTIFUL, remarkable, perfect job as Fran and with singing these wonderful songs. And you're lucky to be watching her. Because frankly, you don't deserve it. -__-;

  • @melizmatea ummmmm who are you to be talking about Kristin Chenoweth? There is no such thing as how a song "should" be sung. Kristin is UNBELIEVABLE. And until you've reached the complete stardom that she has, you have no business commenting. She's 40 years old and has been on the stage for many many years, so I'm pretty sure she knows what she's doing. She knows a lot more than you do.

  • she sang happy birthday to my English teacher 8 days after this was posted x)

  • saw this on broadway last friday...she was so amazing...sean hayes did great too..he has a good voice..got both thier autographs

  • aww i cant believe im not gonna be there on her last performance: 9/26

  • i love it ^^

  • I wish Kristin would come to the West End! It's so frustrating that I'll probably never see her Live because I live in the UK... :( It's too bad, cos she has such a big fan base over here.

  • This song does not belong in PROMISES, PROMISES. Jeez. I don't have a problem with interpolating I SAY A LITTLE PRAYER, but this just is wrong!

  • Wow. Tbh, it looks like she's had quite a lot of work done...

  • @adaircairell Agreed.

  • well kurt sang it not kristin

  • Comment removed

  • @theatremaidel she sang it also look up one less bell to answer/ahouse is not home :)

  • @theatremaidel she sang it too in the mash up with one less bell to answer

  • She sang this on Glee!

  • Wait did Luther Vandross originally write this song?

  • it's ironic?

Irony: the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning. an outcome of events contrary to what was, or might have been, expected.

  • So ironic that she sang this on glee too! I love her and wicked and Sean Hayes and will and grace. Ahh perfection. Hope to see it soon!

  • @XoXoGossipGiRL12 it is not irony but coincidence.

  • @niceforachange2013 One doubts that it's even that

  • @XoXoGossipGiRL12 i dont think its irony..im pretty sure it was planned that way haha

  • @XoXoGossipGiRL12 It's not ironic, it'd be a coincidence. It's also no coincidence though either. They made her sing it on purpose

  • loved her! Loved the show! <3333

  • i love this on glee

  • Oh she's amazong. Love her to death

  • beautifully sung! Kristin Chenoweth is the greatest broadway singer of this time. It's incomprehensible how beauty, vocal and theatric-ability can all unite in one woman. AMAZING! Incredible in all ways...

  • @NunoTeixeira18 Of all time? Not in any way, shape, or form. Over the last couple years? Eh. Maybe.
