Chavez is a hero because he wants to end world's poverty, hunger, disease. Besides he's got a very efficient propaganda machinery that makes seen him as the underdog fighting against the empire. Okay. Now to reply to your original post - you say that Chavez should 'repair' his country. Chavez has already made steps towards that with the Bolivarian Revolution. The missions that he has set up have forced the poverty rate from 42.8%(in 2003, when it was first started) to 33.9% in 2006.
You also point out that the US can crush Venezuela. I don't think that this would happen because 1) Chavez is friends with a bunch of countries who would jump at the chance to attack the US and 2) Venezuela, thanks to its oil, is the richest country in Latin America, and the fourth wealthiest oil exporter. Oil alone funds for 47% of the gov's revenue and 80% of the exports. With all this money, Chavez could buy weapons and funding to defend Venezuela.

My favorite Barbara Interview. Chavez filled the void that no one wanted to touch. I dont agree with how he grabbed power and how he maintains it, but he's an organic response to the political crisis that was there when I grew up. Calling him names, threats, etc, is not much compared to his actions, which have been benefited more citizens than hurt.

Chavez is a hero because he wants to end world's poverty, hunger, disease. Besides he's got a very efficient propaganda machinery that makes seen him as the underdog fighting against the empire. I don't have a problem with that, but what I personally disagree is that he perpetuates his position by embracing authoritarianism and aggression and statist economic policies-- a time-worn recipe for disaster.

The greatest strength of the American military has been it's selection of weak and incompetent enemies to crush. China was strong in the Korean war so we could not crush them. The North Vietnamese were competent so we could not defeat them. Iraq was neither strong nor competent so they were crushed.

In 1950 China attacked in mass numbers , not using hit and run tactics. They simply came right at us and we were overwhelmed and nearly defeated. If a country shows strength and competence against the U.S. they usually do well. By the way history has proven it is impossible for a conventional military force to successfully defeat an insurgency except through dominating the population with extremely brutal tactics.

Okay. Now to reply to your original post - you say that Chavez should 'repair' his country. Chavez has already made steps towards that with the Bolivarian Revolution. The missions that he has set up have forced the poverty rate from 42.8%(in 2003, when it was first started) to 33.9% in 2006.

You also point out that the US can crush Venezuela. I don't think that this would happen because 1) Chavez is friends with a bunch of countries who would jump at the chance to attack the US and 2) Venezuela, thanks to its oil, is the richest country in Latin America, and the fourth wealthiest oil exporter. Oil alone funds for 47% of the gov's revenue and 80% of the exports. With all this money, Chavez could buy weapons and funding to defend Venezuela.

Revolutions mean very little if what they result in is worse. Look at the Bolshevik revolution for God sake! Russia suffered horrific misery under commuinst oppression. Besides, America already HAD a revolution: Led by George Washington; a man neither Che nor Castro nor Chipmunk Cheeks Chavez could hope to equal a fraction to altogether!

elgc45, Chavez's revolution has caused Venezuelans to hate each other and even kill each other for political reasons. The damage is so huge that it will take decades to repair. This is typical of revolutions so don't ask for one unless you've lived in one like me and you liked it.

Just because Chavez is stupid, doesn't mean that all Venezuelans are. I'm Venezuelan and proud to be one. You better think twice before writting an opinion about a country you know nothing about just because the president they have is an asshole. I didn't vote for Chavez and because he won by cheating, we have to go through all this pain. Thank God you're not a Venezuelan, you'd be of no use when the time comes to fight Chavez.

I imagine what it would be like to put some of my hard-earned money into a maturing foreign investment in a place like Venezuela, & then some communist prick stealing it all away so that some lazy shit who doesn't like to work can have a few more creature comforts. QuartuvLarry, LOL, this reminds me of another statement made by Chavez less than a month ago: he regretted that the Che had not received sufficient backing in Bolivia; he said he wished the Che had been able to create a "Vietnam" in Bolivia, and then Chavez went further by saying three Vietnams in South America is what he would have liked during the Soviet era.

Chavez lied about Clinton. When the coastal state of Vargas suffered a natural distaster in 1999, Clinton sent a ship with a military engineering corps to help, but Chavez refused to let the ship make it to the shore fearing that they would carry out a reconnaissance mission for a later invasion of Venezuela DURING the Clinton administration. He confessed this publicly. Shame on Barbara.

You got that right, QuartuvLarry! Plus he's said that he's survived many assassination attempts. I tell you, if the CIA had wanted to kill him, they would have succeeded easily. Not to mention the Mossad (Chavez hates Jews, and he even said that the descendants of those who killed Christ took over all the wealth of the world). He even replaced the name of a famous museum because it was the name of a Jewish woman who signed a manifesto denouncing that statement.

Regarding the Pope, Chavez did visit the Pope, but he also insulted the ambassador of the Vatican to Venezuela, and for years the leaders of the Venezuelan Catholic Church have received insults from Chavez, including being possessed by the devil. Obviously Barbara knew nothing about this either.

But the US and Argentina are in the same group for the soccer Cup of the Americas, and Chavez publicly asked Argentine president Kirchner to make sure that Argentina beat the crap out of the American team. The players are not Republican politicians. He hates you all. He has said that he wants to see the death of the American Empire.

US Media is so far from reality that it's laughable, which is why it's an industry joke.
Their reporting style is so biased and skewed that trying to obtain any real information from a news report is quite challenging. It's a joke because it provides info-tainment rather than reality-based news coverage. TV news in general is sensationalis.

Chavez is a bit extreme but he is not nearly what FOX media channels depict him to be. We do see his perspective, & he moves just like a dicktator. Seizing TV stations simply for opposing his rhetoric? Bush never did that. We actually DO have freedom of speech here. NOTHING stands above freedom. Not your ideals for government theft in support of compulsive charity, nor the rich/poor rhetoric behind it. Better to be poor & free than forced to suckle from the government's teat without hopes or dreams of getting out on our own.

I think Chavez is a hero and champion of people to speak truth to power and not be affraid. most of the people against Chavez never gave a damn about people or used a little of their wealth to help eliminate poverty. Chavez is the man.

alfa, do u believe the way out of poverty is increasing welfare benefits, give away oil? How about improving education? incorporating all society sectors? Not just the poor! Chavez has said that "Anyone who opposes socialism is either a traitor or a dirt rich venezuelan... Have you considered that a LOT of POOR people might actually turn their backs on this government because they don't want a paternalist government but rather one that can provide the social means to fight their out of poverty?

I believe socialism is the first step, I don't believe in classism because people who have more abandon their sensibility for those who have nothing and need education. I think for whom much is given, much is required its our duty as brothers to respectfully help and guide our people.
