Effort is appreciated, but her breathing simply gets in the way of commanding this piece. I mean, her voice has a nice tone and all; it's just that her breathing is atrocious.

I don't want to argue with anyone, but frankly, I cannot believe her performances are considered anything close to music. Am I the only one who finds her voice absolutely awful? I don't even think it's a matter of taste. She seems to sing so off-key! If anything is a matter of taste, I suppose it's not her singing but her performance and style. Believe me, I'm not trying to insult. I just cannot fathom that she is accepted as a musician.

Dolores O'Riordan sings this in a way that some may find impossible to understand...she sings from her heart...and she feels the piece deep within her soul. She is utterly enchanting. I would walk a thousand miles to fall to one knee. This is indeed a prayer that few could hope to master. She has done so to pure perfection. Thank you Dolores. Beautiful...the voice of an angel.

Dolores is pretty good at her thing, but not p angelicus partly because its lyrical fluent quality is wrecked by her lack of feel for it shown by eg breaking the word angelicus into two. She does not understand or express this music.

Enjoy Ms. O'Riordan, but one could also argue that playing the piano with one finger is a legitimate manner of performance. Most would agree that a bit more training and, yes, "polish" would be in order.

You see the point in training in operatic singing is to learn breath support, to learn how to actually sing. This is something I do, unlike your precious little Riordan. I have learned this song, and am actually able to pronounce the words. Real singers actually care about the words they sing. My intonation is light years ahead of this womans.

While I really appreciate the texture and character of her voice, I don't care for her performance either. Perhaps it is just that- it feels very much to me as though she is performing the song, rather than feeling this very beautiful hymn. So for my humble, non professional ears, technically it was ok, distinct. It just did not feel genuine.

I don't want to argue with anyone, but frankly, I cannot believe her performances are considered anything close to music. Am I the only one who finds her voice absolutely awful? I don't even think it's a matter of taste. She seems to sing so off-key! If anything is a matter of taste, I suppose it's not her singing but her performance and style. Believe me, I'm not trying to insult. I just cannot fathom that she is accepted as a musician.

Dolores was born with what she got. If she did train her voice, she'd sound like everybody else and then she'd be bland like everybody else. here's a good example. Dolores O'Riordan sings this in a way that some may find impossible to understand...she sings from her heart...and she feels the piece deep within her soul. She is utterly enchanting. I would walk a thousand miles to fall to one knee. This is indeed a prayer that few could hope to master. She has done so to pure perfection. Thank you Dolores. Beautiful...the voice of an angel.

Natasha - it's not really about 'arguing ' - it's making comment that shows a listener's perceptions - better to articulate the reasons you rate something, else you are reduced to wow and awesome, which illustrate nothing to anyone except that you like it.
Dolores is pretty good at her thing, but not p angelicus partly because its lyrical fluent quality is wrecked by her lack of feel for it shown by eg breaking the word angelicus into two. She does not understand or express this music.

the answer would be, of course, you. If you didn't, you would not have replied. If you are unable to distinguish one "trained" singer from another, perhaps you need to do some more listening.
Enjoy Ms. O'Riordan, but one could also argue that playing the piano with one finger is a legitimate manner of performance. Most would agree that a bit more training and, yes, "polish" would be in order.

Her voice in this song is utterly pitiful. She may have a beautiful voice in some other song. However, she is not well suited for this song in particular. So, you have your opinion, and I do not argue with that, but allow tenor220 to have his as well.

What it is is far from perfect. Maybe you mean that it is the perfect example of your immaturity and inability to accept the fact that someone has a different opinion than you, or is it possibly the perfect way to show that you, in no way, can accept the truth of the fact that Dolores O'Riordan chose the wrong song to sing. I admit I am no connoisseur of the opera and finer musical productions, but I know when someone has the lack of skill to sing.

You see the point in training in operatic singing is to learn breath support, to learn how to actually sing. This is something I do, unlike your precious little Riordan. I have learned this song, and am actually able to pronounce the words. Real singers actually care about the words they sing. My intonation is light years ahead of this womans.

While I really appreciate the texture and character of her voice, I don't care for her performance either. Perhaps it is just that- it feels very much to me as though she is performing the song, rather than feeling this very beautiful hymn. So for my humble, non professional ears, technically it was ok, distinct. It just did not feel genuine.

@john7az I came to this page because I actually have the intelligence to appreciate music, and thought this might be something worth while to listen to. I was unfortunately mistaken, as this is nothing but noise.
Pavarotti was a better man than I when it comes to music appreciation; he was a fervent admirer of Andrea Bocelli as well. A man who's goat like bleating fills me with dread. Good looks are not enough to win me over unfortunately.
