yea i ws wrried abt how to get tht off i just had my 01 tested (weak low voltage) so im gna hv to tackle tht job pretty soon here-thanks for the imfo guy its a big help
Great video! I have an 01 PT Cruiser and this Neon shares the same parts and engine layout. I'm hoping if and when i need to change my alt I can remove the bracket like you did, and not remove the driveaxle like the Haynes manual states.
My 04 Neon's alternator froze I think, and the belt burnt, and my tranny won't shift from 1st great - everything is dim and the battery light and check engine light came on as I was driving it for the first time after a few days. Damn..I hope it's just the belt. What do you think Richpin?
I have an 05 neon that has problems with the lights fluctuating and the rpms dropping almost like the engine is hesitating. This problem gets worse if you turn on the headlights, heater, defrost, stereo, etc.. The symptoms improve while revving the engine though. I have replaced the battery and cleaned the terminals could this be a bad alternator?
OOOh boy. How tight should the belt be? and you removed the tire assembly to get the lower Through-bolt , right? Do you know , too if thier is a Tranny drain plug on the 2000?
Thanks, this helped unbelievably. My first car repair and it wasnt the simplest spot but did it, not the tricky part putting it back in lol. Thank you
I miss the old days when engines were in the right way and engine compartments were big enough that you didn't have to perform gymnastics for something as simple as an alternator change. Good video.
Don't see many compact cars with OHV engines, eh? In the 87 honda civic, they had the nerve to put the alternator right under the master brake cylinder. Very tight squeeze to loosen and almost impossible to pivot for belt tension.
Hey rich this is the same alternator thats in my eclispe, it is much easier to remove the bracket and the alternator as one piece and slide the alternator out with the tires facing forward. Ive done these on many 420a Chrysler motors and they are much faster this way plus the alternator wont just fall down
Amazingly helpful!
