  • Amazingly helpful!

  • yea i ws wrried abt how to get tht off i just had my 01 tested (weak low voltage) so im gna hv to tackle tht job pretty soon here-thanks for the imfo guy its a big help

  • extremely helpful, thank you so much Rich. My alternator is overcharging and almost killed my brand new battery, off to replace it.

  • I think mine is going so this video may have saved my bacon

  • Great video! I have an 01 PT Cruiser and this Neon shares the same parts and engine layout. I'm hoping if and when i need to change my alt I can remove the bracket like you did, and not remove the driveaxle like the Haynes manual states.

  • @KenFaustmann They are a lot of fun to put in......NOT

  • I'm really happy this video is around.

My 04 Neon's alternator froze I think, and the belt burnt, and my tranny won't shift from 1st great - everything is dim and the battery light and check engine light came on as I was driving it for the first time after a few days. Damn..I hope it's just the belt. What do you think Richpin?

  • @rbgy That is what happen to this neon the alternator seized up and burned the belt off.

  • I have an 05 neon that has problems with the lights fluctuating and the rpms dropping almost like the engine is hesitating. This problem gets worse if you turn on the headlights, heater, defrost, stereo, etc.. The symptoms improve while revving the engine though. I have replaced the battery and cleaned the terminals could this be a bad alternator?

  • @Starsmuse It does sound like a week alternator.

  • @richpin06a Thats what i was thinking as well, thanks for the info and the helpful video

  • I'm not sure what i liked more, all the detailed information on this procedure, or the fact it was taught by Ray Romano!!

  • @merosargento O it 's got to be Everyone Loves richpin....i mean Ray Romano

  • How about a 96 dodge neon? Can u do a video of that alternator removal?

  • @bwebber89 I do not have one handy but if one shows up i will certainly do it.

  • @bwebber89 it's pretty darn close to this video (there was no brace), just follow this video, worked for me, I just changed mine on a 98 Neon.

  • Comment removed

  • is this the same for a 05

  • @hp11208 It is the same part number so i will say yes.

  • OOOh boy. How tight should the belt be? and you removed the tire assembly to get the lower Through-bolt , right? Do you know , too if thier is a Tranny drain plug on the 2000?

  • @Filmaker25 Compare to the other belt it will help you.The tire needs to come off to do this job.No drain plug for the tranny.

  • Is this the same location on a 97 neon sir. Please respond!

  • @Iam4armalitem15 Yes it is

  • thanks bro..gonna try to work on it tomorrow.

  • is 04 the same?..need help

  • @hhaivo It is the same part number so i would see yes

  • Thanks, this helped unbelievably. My first car repair and it wasnt the simplest spot but did it, not the tricky part putting it back in lol. Thank you

  • My day just turned into a nightmare... My Honda accord had a MUCH better placement/design.

  • @HU3CAP I almost forgot. Awesome tutorial! Gonna save me some money for sure

  • awesome tutorial, Thanks a million!

  • my son has to have the rf lower pump remove on his dodge neon any videos on that and just hand tool can it be done thnaks

  • rich i like that air tool u have it looks handy where can i get one like that

  • I miss the old days when engines were in the right way and engine compartments were big enough that you didn't have to perform gymnastics for something as simple as an alternator change. Good video.

  • nice video.

  • i apperciate your videos ive learned alot.. are you a mechanic?

  • @chris3987 No he is a ballet dancer

  • Don't see many compact cars with OHV engines, eh? In the 87 honda civic, they had the nerve to put the alternator right under the master brake cylinder. Very tight squeeze to loosen and almost impossible to pivot for belt tension.

  • Hey rich this is the same alternator thats in my eclispe, it is much easier to remove the bracket and the alternator as one piece and slide the alternator out with the tires facing forward. Ive done these on many 420a Chrysler motors and they are much faster this way plus the alternator wont just fall down
