  • no amount of exercise is going to solve the problem if the brain is still programmed to eat in response to emotional problems

  • awareness of food addiction is tragically neglected, i don't know if it's because of the easy stigma of "fat" or what, but it seems ridiculous to me that the focus is always on obesity, in terms of physical weight, rather than the core problem of addiction. It needs to be recognised in the same light as anorexia or bulimia, all are eating disorders which originate from a problem in the brain, telling someone with an addiction to go get on a treadmill is just pure ignorance

  • YES. Food CAN be abused.

Food ignites a feelgood chemical in the brain and helps pass time.

  • @shabootie1111 Howcan you even make comparisons to what is achoice and what isnt? and on top of that different people have different degrees of addiction; different variations of addictions. I mean soooo many ppl are ignorant about food addiction jus like you it's appalling. Don't talk until you've gone through it.

  • @shabootie1111 Addiction isn't just an act it takes control of the persons life. It's not as simple as just saying "ohh so just excercise" how can you physically excercise if your body is so weak and your so sick from eating 1200 cal in one sitting? Do u have common sense?and what about the horrible mentall and emotional damage that rules someone's life after their binge or whatever? Its a vicious Horrible cycle and you haven't gone thru addiction so how can you talk at all?

  • @thegame3331 Actually if you eat so much food in one sitting or so much bad food to the extent that most food addicts to it depletes the body and makes thebody so weak and sick to where they can't work out. Addicition means there is something wrong up in the head so it's not just the problem of eating too much. Overall there is something wrong in the brain which messes up daily life ..from extreme delpression to not leaving the house.. You have noo idea what your talking about at all.

  • Food is an addiction. The reasons are simply because of the toxins. All the chemicals that are in them. Yes, even our healthy food is toxic. Even if you stay away from icecream and chips your meat is loaded up with chemicals. My heart goes out to you. I've been there and I'm beating this addiction and I know you can too. God bless

  • @whatevahization shut the fuck up!

  • Definitely yes

  • DON'T LOOSE WEIGHT WE LIK'EM BIG

  • Alright i understand that food could be an addiction. But, JUNK food doesn't nesesaryly have to be an addiction. Why can't you eat healthy but still eat alot. Or eat alot of junk food but also workout to couteract the calories. Food may be an addiction, but being fat is a CHOICE.

  • One day at a time. Food addiction is very real and you have to find out which foods trigger your binges. CRAP foods

    Caffiene

    Refined sugars

    Alcohol

    Processed foods.

Try elminating the sugar 1st..and don't use artificial sweeteners in place of them - will only make the problem worse.

  • EWW

  • i have a food addiction and i need help i cannot stop eating. if i go more than 1/2 an hour without eating i feel lightheaded and i get shaky, and that has led me to become 378LBS AND I AM ONLY 17. i have to sneek food into school and ask to go to the mens room so i can eat something. what should i do?

  • @PatriotConservative1 The light headed feeling is not hunger it is craving your addiction just like a heroin addict starts to shake and itch. I don’t know what to tell you really. I decided to lose weight after my doctor said something. I really didn’t think I had a problem because I was the healthiest person I knew ad I eat organic food and exercise every day. Just remember regardless of it all you are in the world and you deserve your place here, Good Luck.

  • Food is a type of an addiction. I have one also, just on an opposite way. Instead I dont eat and obesess about it that way.

  • sloth: a sin

  • hurt more than ever (he's done this more times than i can count)

  • continu- scooter, im about 100 lbs over weight, & i have a phyical diasbiltiy tho im mostly ambulatory, so for me its no wonder i don't have some1 2 share my life w. men are shallow & closed minded i grew up w fried chicken, chip & cookies always in the house,I'd rather have french fries than a carrot stick.! I have a exercise bike & palates dvd but they hardly get used also this person i mentioned earlier (he always says he'll visit then comes up w excuse after excuse why he cant come so im

  • food can be an addiction & I have it, when i was a child I was teased 4 somthing i could'nt help ( not waight) I was raised in the averge family he all love eachother & say so, now I know some1 who use 2 b a good friend of mine that has become like pulling teeth to come & visit me so I;ve stopped trying also i soooo sick of seeing everyone around me happy w some1 to spend there lives w but me I feel like a outsider in my own family plus i have no friends in the city i live. I use a 3 wheel

  • food can be addiction if you have enough money to buy it .

  • the chemicals in the processed foods u mention actually contain filling and its the food components that have a certian number of fats, sugar, and salt.

  • anything can be addicting

but any addiction is cureable :D

  • I for a while, kept eating loads of food for a month and i thought, i really need to stop, the less i ate, the less i needed the food so yes addiction is quite right, its like when you stop the cigarettes, you stop craving them or if you cut out the alcohol, the cravings will go(over time of course) plus theres all this junk food in the stores, its like a heroin addict browsing in a large store filled with heroin and telling them not to buy it!

  • I agree with you 100%. Food is also my addiction, and one way I'm overcoming it is with my lap band. I've lost 40 lbs so far. Watch my videos, it may be something that you might be interested in.

  • I'm also going to allow one treat every 3 days or so of a frozen milky

chocolate thingy on a stick it'll be great to have at least 1 thing to look forward to.

I know God intended us to have enough to fill us and no more. My eldest

son says its gluttony to eat more than you need and rarely has treats and has kept his lovely slim figure all his life. I put on

weight with a series of close deaths and an accident. Heres hoping Im

on an upward climb to slimness !!! I sliced pear is good.

  • I started a diet today Im a tub and have had a cup of diet fizzy drink (my son

has a few cups a day and he's still lost all that weight) but I had some lettuce

and cheese to nibble before (yum) while waiting for dinner but dont know

how bad the cheese will be. Just as well I like veggies. Im a lot better

looking when Im 28 or 35 lbs lighter than now and cant fit my nice clothes now.

Heres hoping but Jennifferrr here and my son are right its a lifestyle change

    not a fast diet.

  • thats fabulous jenniferrr and the way to go. My son changed his habits too

and has porridge at work for breakfast (yuk) and mainly a cpl of sandwiches for lunch

or goes out for chinese or something and eats a decent sized meal at home

for dinner but never been a giant eater eg 2 meat patties, chips (fries) and 2 eggs

is his fav and he has lost 30 kg - from 93 to 63 but he did it sensibly

and slowly over 18 mths and does get on his exercycle often - works for him hes so skinny now ha.

  • I am not obese, but I do eat a lot of sugar, salt, and poor foods, so that I turn around and spend a lot of time exercising to attack my pudge, when I should not have eaten the candy, grease, etc. in the first place.

  • people act like this is horrible.there are worse problems than this in the world..stop insulting people who are addicted to food..if they could stop they would, these things take time..like your addicted to eating healthy

  • first of all joan i give you so much credittttt for speaking on this issue. i have started a facebook page for overeaters and addiction. i am going to post this on my page! you are beautiful..thank you so much for the video.

  • Thank you for the video. I believe that a diet of (generally) whole foods satisfies the body and many cravings subside, in the same way that wholesome pleasures replace unwholesome ones, real intimacy overcomes adverse sexuality, self-respect and respect of others subsume codependency, etc.

  • The only temporary relief I get from depression is to buy something. This leads to hoarding of clothing and other items-I have OCD. Meds have not helped and crying leads to more crying. These activities sooth my anger, and I feel it's the only joy I get out of life, other than artwork. But I'm not always up to it. Put some money in my hand and I'm off to ebay to blow it all, though.

  • Food is definitely a soother, esp. fatty items like fried stuff, sweets, heavy dairy products and the like. They stimulate serotonin, which depressed people lack. Women suffer twice the rate of depression in this society for obvious reasons. It's often why we turn to food or shopping to ease feelings of anger.

  • Anything that makes you feel good can be an addiction. We all turn to things that make us feel good.

  • Food addiction is definitely real. Humans are naturally wired to go for salty, sugary, or fatty foods because those are rare in nature. Nowadays, they're easily available. Add things like msg and other additives to food, and how greasy unhealthy food is often more convenient and cheaper than other food, and it's not hard to see why obesity is becoming a big problem. Plus food makes you feel good naturally, and there's constant advertisement for fatty foods.

  • I used to be addicted to food. I tried many diets, they didn't help, only gave me more urge to eat. Now I realize it has to be a life change, and I made that change by changing my eating habits 6 months ago. Now I lost 20 kilos, eating healthier (I say healthier because I didn't get fat by eating fast food (like many think). But a lot of "normal" food, i.e. 8 slices of bread per day. Now I eat 4). Still have more kilos to go, at least 40. I eat 2400 kcal a day now. It's actually easy to do now!

  • Food addiction is real Its stronger than a drug...

  • there is no such thing as a food addict i thought i was food addict but the reason i was always hungary and eating was because i was eating any foods to fuel my body so even though i was eating all day i was starving myself

  • @yorchick while you may be right about the types of food you eat leaving you hungry, scientists have already proven that food, in a food addict, does something very similar to the brain that drugs do to drug addict's brains, look it up on google

  • I find you very attractive. I wish you were single. However I have the utmost respect for the fact that you're married. To answer the question...yes, food can be, and in most cases...it is an addiction. Jus' like any drug, be it Alcohol, or pills, liquor, gambling etc, etc. I also commend you for going public and sharing all that you have. Its very educational!..The rooster in the back ground of this video is very funny to me...! dssatl2020@yahoo.com God Bless!

  • Why do people have to be so rude??

Food is a addiction..anything can be a addiction.. why waste your time on here to make fun of this nice lady, when she's trying to help.

God bless Joan! keep pushing forward you are doing good and this is a bad addiction.

  • i weigh just under 300 lbs and requested my doctor assist me with weight loss. my doc requested I have a bunch of tests done to factor in the risks. after all my blood tests and physical exams the doctor refused because, and I quote, "I am healthy." Basically because I don't have high blood pressure or diabetis yet, because I don't have a thyroid problem because I am not physically ill i am not entitled to assistance in achieving a healthy weight. the real kicker is i have tried so hard.

  • Wow you're so smart! It makes me question my food addiction and i'm still trying my best to find help for it cause on my own I keep failing to overcome it. I just don't know where to go for help and it makes me feel really sad.

  • Food addiction = America.

  • @enforceone Why would you say that? I'm not fat at all =\

  • great vid. Absolutely food can be an addiction and many books say that it can be a more powerful addiction than even heroin or cocaine since more "feel good" and calming brain chemicals are released in the brain when eating sugary foods or foods with addictive chemicals such as MSG. Eating more whole, raw fruits and vegetables helps diminish processed food cravings.

  • you not only eat the chicken breast you eat the whole chicken coup

  • i think u r amazingly brave and i suffer too! over emotional eating!

  • @clazza01 amazingly brave to stuff herself with cheeseburgers? Seriously, she'd be "amazingly brave" if she saved a drowning child or fought a fire. NOT because she wrote a book on what it's like finding a casio watch in her back fat roll or whatever it's about.

  • @LittleAuntyDaisy WOW let the anorexics starve to deatht then. why they get all the help and over weight people food addicts' do not? you really are an evil putrifying cunt

    child molesting mother fucker

  • @clazza01 Firstly the manner in which you speak shows your level of intelligence and maturity. Secondly, anorexia nervosa is a mental disorder with physical symptoms. Therefore anorexics are treated in hospitals by psychiatrists and doctors. Like alcoholics who would not be deserving of a new liver, "food addicts" as you call them would not be deserving of being called "brave" or receiving special treatment such as extra wide seats or preferred seating on public transport.

  • FAT BITCH!!

  • Extremly Obese

  • Its an eating disorder not an addiction. An addiction is a chemical addiction in your brain that u get from drogs alcohol etc. some foods do signal the brain to eat more thats true these foods should be avoided like (fructos ,glycos, sugar in combination with fat) but u cant say that food in itself is an addiction thats just not really the case its an eating disorder.

  • ur one hellof a fuck..:)

  • yes I think it can be an addiction because I have the disorder. I can't stop eating sometimes even when I'm not hungry, I just want to eat until I feel totally sick enough to vomit all of it out. I actually even weigh myself before and after making sure I got rid of the exact weight of the food I had consumed.

  • Im a foodaddict but im not a lazy bastard... I eat aprox 7 times a day and i love pizza. As most i ate 4x bigmac co... but i dotn need to be obest 4 that. Is lazy a addict?

  • This is a quote from Bahai writings.I hope it will answer.

O SON OF SPIRIT! I created thee rich, why dost thou bring thyself down to poverty?Noble I made thee, wherewith dost thou abase thyself?Out of the essence of knowledge I gave thee being, why seekest thou enlightenment from anyone beside Me?Out of the clay of love I molded thee, how dost thou busy thyself with another?Turn thy sight unto thyself, that thou mayest find Me standing within thee, mighty, powerful and self-subsisting."Baha'u'llah"

  • instead of reading all about food diet whaever.. move ur ass....i feel sorry for the chair...

  • @kittythepoo Would you say something like that to an alcoholic, a smoker or drug addict?

  • everyone loves food but they choose not to eat...

  • Some great helpful information in books by Kay shepherd, about how to recover well on an abstinant food plan for life.

  • how much does she weigh

  • Haha, this Food Addiction excuse put forward by the overweight people. Listen up, there's a reason why no one got fat eating plenty of carrots, nuts, berries, salads, fruits, etc. It's funny also, how your food addiction seems to be limited to eating mass amounts of junk food. How sad of you. Trying to justify your poor lifestyle choices. Well, it's coming back to bite you in your ass both at the detriment of your health condition and your social status.

  • @RenewableFuel it is about genes and self esteem same as anorexics, aww those poor stick insects

  • @RenewableFuel u r a dumb cunt

  • @RenewableFuel Its not as easy as you think...should you justify poor habits no. Can you explain them yes. Can you change them YES but its really hard... REALLY hard

  • @RenewableFuel You said what I was saying in my mind...well not quite as rude...yes it is the over weight persons fault for getting there. I bugs the shit out of me because it is a crutch to say it's the foods fault. But again, you can't be everyone and not everyone is strong to ignore the crave. I was over weight once and I know. But I'm still on your side lol Just eat healthier not massive amounts of junk food.

  • @RenewableFuel are you sure their aren't people like me who can and did gain 20-50 lbs of fat eating brown rice, carrots, fish and fruits? Almost all skinny people eat pizza and junk food all the time. They simply just don't eat much 2 slices and their full. If it took them 40 slices to be full then they would be fat, and this is why their is fat people. A lot of us are on the borderline, something as simple as eating heaalthy can make you skinny, you are one of these people.

  • @RenewableFuel

I do agree with what you say wholeheartedly, it is possible to change your ways with anything as we can see, although there are addictive chemicals in food. Cheese for example has a chemical more addicting than heroin in it.

  • @RenewableFuel You obviously have poor knowledge about the human mind, you ignorant kid.

  • @markffan Yet you provide no rebuttal at all. GG kid.

  • Comment removed

  • America... greedy obese nation.

  • yep.......yep........yepppppp so true too.

  • @0vaio so is uk now

  • it has to do with anxiety.

  • I recently did a project about food and addiction, and there is definitely a link between the amount of a hormone called leptin in the brain that dictates your hunger and food intake. Scientists are getting closer to ways of stopping these addictions, as oftentimes food addictions aren't the fault of the individual.

  • Yes, food is one thing that people can be addicted to...just as much as drugs, behaviors, exercise, etc. You are right. We can make an addiction out of anything!!! ^5 I like you. :)

  • I know I can put on 10lbs in a week. So why not use it to benefit me. I am in the gym 4 days and 1 off every week. People blame the food and genetics as an excuss. People use these fad diets and pills with the hope of quick results. It never works because it is lifestyle change that is needed. A great example is Alli. It makes you crap yourself if you eat greasy food (its on the bottle). Still people buy it and think that it will help. A gym membership is less expensive and works. No excusses

  • Food can be an addiction, food addicts in recovery anonymous can provide real help that is free of charge and works. This group has helped me more than any other and honestly works.

  • People can become addicted to absolutely anything.

  • @Julirana obviously not salad in Joan's case

  • Definitely. An addiction is inability to stop a compulse behavior despite continued negative consquences.

If someone is morbidly obese and binges on food as a way to cope with their stress it's an addiction.

Everyone has problems in their life, yours is unfortunately just more visible and thus are a target for bullies and other weak-minded people . Best of luck with your battle!

  • Well put. I agree. It is, in my opinion, the most stigmatized of all the addictions and most misunderstood. Many people do not believe it is a viable addiction and we are just out of control gluttons. Thank you for the words of encouragement. I am doing well at this point and am finally turning it all around. God Bless!

  • You make videos like this and then tell sushicat that people who care about her addiction are funny. I think you are an enabler!! Misery loves company.

  • this woman is soooooooooooo sexy!!!!!

I want her to sit on me with ALL her weight!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • For me, as an emotional eater I would have to say yes, absolutely. Great video!

  • So true. Food can be an addiction, anytime i carve some thing its not vegies or fruit, its that bag of chips or box of cookies.....everyone deals with addictions and i just so happens that for some it is food, and we have to deal with it the same way some one who is addicted to gambling or anything else would deal with it. One step at a time.

  • One step at a time is the key as well as NEVER giving up. We just have to make different choices and retrain our brain and believe we deserve it. Thanks for watching! God Bless!

  • hey, no offense but how did you let your weight escalade into what it is now?

  • Food sure can be an addiction.

I not only gave up processed grains but all grains as well as milk, sugars, and starch foods. I am into my second year. It has greatly helped food addiction. I am addicted to carbs big time. Still am, now I eat healthy carbs, lots of them.

I don't lose weight when I eat too many of them but don't gain either.

I have made my eating my lifestyle. It has become very easy for me to do.

Good luck with your emotions and your food addictions.

    marjie

  • It is an addiction. Especially for emotional eaters. I do not eat uncontrollably like most people think overweight people do...I actually have had to increase my calorie intake and am still working on it. The problem is skinny/healthy people or the ones I have ran into think losing weight is easy, it is not. It is not always simple. And everyone loses weight differently.

  • i agree and very well thought out

  • Makes me feel much better as well! Thanks! God Bless!

  • Food is definately an addcition....it's always been my addiction of choice....I have learned over the years that eating as clean as possible it makes me feel better~ Great video~

  • ANYTHING can be an addiction! Food is a very common addiction because it is in our lives every day. There can be no rhyme or reason why you get addicted to one thing or another. I can be addicted to just about anything. Luckily, I only allow addictions to a few things. Even though I feel lucky, I still struggle everyday with what I need to do to live a healthy life. This is a lifetime challenge.

  • It is definitely a lifetime challenge. You would be surprised how many people are out there that do not believe it can be an addiction. I have had conversations with people who simply think overeaters are just out of control gluttons. Obviously they have not lived it. Thanks for commenting! God Bless!

  • Anybody who has lived with an addictive personality knows just about anything can be an addiction. Food is just another form of substance abuse. Some people become food drunks instead of alchoholics or drug addicts. It is all the same, just different addictive behaviors.

  • Eat to Live not Live to Eat. What's so hard about that? Get another hobby or interest to occupy your time. Jeez. Stop putting your hand in another packet of crisps and maybe get off your ass and exercise? Really not hard guys!

  • so dammmmn true... really is
