  • This just got added to Train Simulator 2012 looks like an interesting route to drive a train.

  • Trivia for you:

Horseshoe Curve was on Hitlers hit list of U.S. sites to destroy.

  • 4th unit on that train coming down the hill is ex Southern Ry

  • It in Altoon pa if anyone wants to no

  • Simply a great Video !!!

As a German train lover I had the chance to spend a Sunday at this spot and it was simply overwhelming, experiencing the ground vibrations, when these loco combinations passed by.

  • Is the first train one of those garbage trains?

  • Nice model trains. Very realistic. HO scale?

  • How many trains pass the curve in a day?

  • @ChessieSeaboardX around 65-70

  • 1st one is a trash train. They bring garbage to the old em[ty mines and fill them

  • Cool. I want to go to horseshoe curve and watch some trains...

  • i came.

  • I barely noticed that the AA Altoona Curve are named after this

  • Nice vid, I would have re-mixed the sound with more low-range to get diesel rumble.

    Remember, "Don't Feed The Trolls"

  • Wow this video is so exciting!!! especially when that one train was going around in a circle...oh yeah and that OTHER train going around in a circle!!! man that was intense!!!

  • The first train is carrying garbage containers from New York City to a landfill somewhere in the midwest.

  • Location is near Altoona, Pennsylvania.

The big black thing is indeed a locomotive on display..

  • a gp9 i believe, this is West? of altoona i believe also,

  • Where is this location?

That black thing near your position is a locomotive?

  • couldn't believe it.

  • First time I went to the curve I coulnnt believe it. Best place in the world to watch trains. Luv your vid.

  • Hey is Amtrak suppose to go that fast downhill, or do they have less restrictions since its a lighter load and its a passenger train

  • Passenger trains can ALWAYS go faster than freight trains. Passenger trains can stop a lot quicker, because they're lighter.

This is especially true on steep downhills, where freights might be restricted to 20mph (so they can stop) but Amtrak can go as fast as the curves allow, 50 or 70 or even 80 mph.

  • i like how the power was put in order neat 5 stars

  • There were 4 tracks, and one was removed in 1981, and it doesnt say. Why was it removed?

  • I don't know but i'm assuming either poor land conditions for the 4th track or not enough traffic on the rails.

  • There were 4 tracks at the curve untill 1981.The track that was removed was the old #2 track. That left the old #1,3,4 tracks inplace.Tracks 3,4 were changed to tracks 2,3.Track #1 is for Eastbound.Track #2 is bidirectional. And Track #3 is westbound. The old #2 track was removed the same time that CR Pulled up the old New Portage Railroad branch that went from Gallitzin to WYE at Duncansville. The Cove Secondary goes from ALTO in Altoona to WYE/WYE Switches in Duncansville.

  • Where is horseshoe curve located, i would like to go. ^_^

  • Pennslyvania,USA

  • Four miles west of Altoona. Go out to the resevoir. Right in the middle of the state. Fly to Chicago, clear customs, get on a plane for Pittsburgh, change to a commuter plane for Altoona/Blair County Airport. Take a taxi.

  • some guys will never learn how to handle a videocamera..........its all shaky

    damn

  • almost all guys who post a video here in youtube never now how to use the cam without the shakeness.

  • Nice!!!

  • i realy hope i can go there one day !!!!!!!! great video

  • What railroading is all about.

  • ahhhh...I LOVE AMERICAN TRAINS!!!!1

  • What is the little brick building by the tracks used for?

  • thats my house

  • Horseshoe curve was so important in

moving troops and supplies during WWII that the Nazis had plans to try and blow it

up but were never able to put their

    plot into operation.

  • Helluva lot of SD40-2s!! Nice!!

  • That has to be NS 65J out of Oak Island, NJ

  • 3 trains at once, what more could you ask for

  • Horseshoe curve is the best !!! I go there every year. Nice video

  • i lived in this part of pennsylvania for nine months while attending school and seeing videos like this make me regret not visiting visiting places like horseshoe curve.

  • Usernamelmcomplete10, your werent taught well in school and you are highly stupid with a statement like that.

  • Man, is horseshoe curve this busy all the time? I live anout 2 hours northeast of here, Williamsport area, and I'd love to come down to see this.

  • What a cool place! Must be a trainspotter's paradise. :)

  • The first train is pulling containers filled

with garbage from New York City and heading to a landfill somewhere in the midwest.

  • which is NS 65J

  • there are 4 trains not 3 as it is in the headline.

  • There is only 3 tracks on horseshoe curve.. the 4th track was removed in the 80's.

  • nice cosits on the first train!

  • Is this a garbage train?

  • Is the eastbound coal train headed for Washingtonville, PA as seen on The History Channels "Extreme Trains" episode "The Coal Train"?

  • This video brings back memories. I was there when a I was12 or 13 years old. What a job that must have been back in the 1840's. No big Cat loaders, pans or haul trucks back then. Dymamite, Pick and shovel, horse and wagon was about all he equipment they had back then. My back hurts just thinking about it.

  • -This is a great place to eat your Sandwich!

    -WHAT?!??

-I SAID, THIS IS A GREAT PLACE!

    -EXCUSE ME?

    -OH, NEVERMIND!

    *chew*

    lol

  • Nothing like that here in Australia

  • something smells

  • Keep recycling New York, Ohio needs your garbage.

  • hey ive seen three trains at hc

  • I don't care what anyone says. I grew up with trains out here in South Jersey. Every day for the 31 years I've been alive, this mixed frieght train with mostly tankers would go by like clockwork. I'll have to get it to you some day and show you. Used to be Conrail, now it's CSX. Would like to check Horseshoe curve one day. How many cars did that coalcar train have approximately?

  • altoona pennsylvaina

  • where is horseshoe curve at?????

  • One hell of a good time to show up. Nice EMD sound too.

  • i think its funny how stupid people make up like 30 different usernames just to try to prove a point, nobody cares, you're just wasting you're time dumbass. btw nice vid, not every day you see a high hood on a coal drag.

  • you negative guys out there are unbelievable

  • I know, if you don't like something, just move on. I think what it is, is these ppl have no lives, so they have to hate on everyone.

  • Did you not just reply back to me? Dumbass

  • You?

  • im sure an animal could make a more interesting video than this bullshit.

  • jj trucks go fuck yourself

  • go give him a hand

  • because you touch yourself at night.

  • dude, I'm 15...It was over summer and we were bored. Btw, I saw your....1 whole video. Its not exactly awesome. At least one or two of ours had a little comical value. Yours is just of no use what so ever.

  • yea, i agree with jjtrucks, ...YOURS SUCK!!!

  • Millerkid09 you have sooo much room to talk since your vids are so great....oh yeah... thats right.....you dont have any! before commenting on other peoples videos how about making some of your own. fucktard

  • oh, and don't be insulting my friend.... Insult me all you want. Leave Millerkid alone. He's entitled to an opinion as much as you and I.

  • fuck yea u jackass and by the way i do have Videos its just that i have them under a diff. persons name and that name happens 2 b jjtrucks so what now bitch!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • Ok considering I made a new username not even a month ago yeah i only have one video. So what? its alot more interesting than you and your faggot friends acting like retards

  • Thats depending who you ask...Millerkid09 apparently takes my side. Anyone else?

  • WalkingHard101,ReagenSmash190 if u don't like watching trains, then don't watch train vids. I think robertgift and mattmaddie hit it right on the head. btw, if anyone ever gets the chance to visit horseshoe, it is AWESOME.

  • then dont watch it

  • Those three trains At Horseshoe Curve at Altoona exemplify what this country is all about! We are free to come and go as we please, whether it is freight trains or commuter trains!!!

    9988 cancer

  • I think the first one had a leslie rs3l.

  • My son is two and he is so excited by trains. He loves this video!

    Thanks, Jennifer

  • 10 minutes of watching trains going around in a circle?? wow thats stupid

  • You sure can't get enough of it...you keep commenting on it! Now...when I don't like something, I move on. Watching trains...not stupid, commenting more than once on a video you obviously don't like...now, that's stupid!

  • Those containers are full of garbage, by the way.

  • gay!

  • why would you post this video? seriously

  • yeah like anybody would like to watch this shit its boring as hell! your watching a train go around in a circle! its stupid and its not a dumb question. ask anybody

  • Oh I dont know....kids been doing it for 80 years....can you say LIONEL?

  • I work those SD40-2 "helpers" out of Altoona.

The reason they're on the head end and not the rear, is the stench coming off the garbage.

  • Flange oilers for that curved track?

Or would oil get on the rail head and reduce locomotive traction?

    Lucky to capture three trains!

Lube or loosen your tripod horizontal table to stop the jerkiness. Very annoying and ruins viewing.

  • "Flange greasers" and yes nearly every curve has them at opposing ends..it helps reduce friction that builds between the flange and the head (rail)

  • Do they ever cause loss of traction if lubricant gets on the rail head?

    Lots of flange squeal.

Imagine how much more if they were NOT greased.

In the late 50s/early 60s when I last visited as a little kid, there was a huge steam locomotive there.

I remember that building with chimney.

There also was a huge tree.

  • Sure, when running over greasers you will experience abit of wheel slip...you just throw some sand down, after you pass over.

  • why would you post this video? seriously

  • Horseshoe curve is pretty cool!!! RailRoading all the way!!!

  • i live 30mins from there

  • same here!

  • trains make me super horny

  • Classic eastern coal drag with classic EMD 6 axle power and helpers too.

  • who would go up to some railroad tracks and videotape trains going around in a circle???

  • Sweet

  • what kinda of containers are these?

  • Most excellent video. In Joliet IL you many BNSF trains loaded with containers and coal but they move through very slowley. Cant get a sense of power. I see the "J" also from time to time, using a caboose.

  • those are some weird containers

  • They are garbage containers coming out of New York heading for landfills in the Midwest.

  • What year was the video made?

  • ..awsome .. thank you...horse shoe..is my fav. train watching site

  • Great video - fascinating.

    Gez

  • does it have the sander on?

  • Yes, this is a area set up for watching trains, it is a popular place because of the

volume of trains that come through.

There is another outside of Chicago as well that I am aware of.

  • where outside of chicago? i live about 40 miles out of the city. down here in coal city we really do not have anything like that. however we do have a high volume of trains that do go through here.

  • I think He is talking about the viewing platform set up for rail-fans at Homewood Illinois, along side the Canadian National[former Illinois Central] main line just South of their Markham Yard.

  • Is there a "railway park" or something there?

  • Was this shot in western Pennsylvania? If so where exactly?

  • Horseshoe curve, right outside Altoona, PA. Mike

  • Anyhow, since my computer wont let me reply to other peoples comments let alone my own. Great video that place is awesome I went there over the early fall, and loved it, great to see those SD40-2(I think or SD45s?) Leading that freight better then those new wide cabs. Mike

  • You didn't look close enough, the Amtrak train

is obscured behind the other two trains and is heading left to right, if you look closely

you can see the smoke from the engine and

    some of the train.

  • Amtrak train? I saw no Amtrak train.

  • i have a web site for the horseshoe curve.

but it won't let me post here.

  • i like trains.

  • the cost for to get into the horseshoe curve

    is 5.00.

  • Great video wish CSX would of got that line they look alot better then all black NS

  • horseshoe curve is in altoona pa. nice place

to visit. i have been there many times.

  • Ya, your vids are sooo much better.

  • Screw you guys, Mike

  • Sorry this was supposed to be a reply, to something against the video. Mike

  • What?
