  • Digan lo que digan, EL MEJOR!!

  • Believe me friends, this is the greatest GRANADA I've ever heard

  • And now we have Florez... 20 times Florez does not equal one Corelli.

  • @TsarBovov haha, i think this is a fact. MAYBE when the 18th or 19th Florez comes in they may start equalizing. :)

  • Está ca'ón! Vaya voz poderosa!

  • 4:17

  • the best rendition ever! the unique Corelli!

  • Apparently, for some people, Corelli is a bad singer and untalented, but don´t make mistake; Corelli was the greatest tenor of all time, equal to bjoerling or caruso. Domingo never dominated the upper area ofthe tenor, is not free to produce their high-zone sounds. Most of their performances the sound is muffled or inconsistent. IMO Corelli is the best included this Granada.

  • Wunderlich GG

  • Corelli's spendid resonance and enormous tone, plus his eye-opening acuti, ease of production, control of mezza voce and heartfelt interpretations, make him one of the greatest tenors on record.

  • el mejor que he visto disculpa placido

  • I'm amazed that such a rich, powerful voice can hit those high notes! Corelli is among the small group of elite tenors.

  • Q BRUTO!!! wooooooooooooooow!!! PRODIGIOSA VOCHE!!! :O!!!

  • Q BRUTO!!! Es Impactanteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! PRODIGIOSA VOCHE!! :O

  • MAESTRO! i want to sig like he

  • I've recently been arranging this piece... Most folks who don't sing the original version ending on an A simply transpose it to a higher key if they want a higher end. It seems like he modulates somewhere toward the end instead... Can anyone confirm this?

  • WOW

  • hahahahh bravo però è registrato hahah

  • Corelli , grande tenore!

  • . Z wielkim szacunkiem traktuje wielu wybitnych i genialnych, którzy odeszli i tych współczesnych tenorów i musze sprawiedliwie oddać im cześć .Wielu z nich nadal BARDZO PODZIWIAM .

  • One of the greatest of all time

  • Corelli was like a god in my home trough three generations.Beautiful, clear voice.Beloved Franco, you always will be my favorite.

  • Wonderful!!!!, no comparision with non of the mentioned tenors!!!; he was the "Boss" and will be for a long time!!! I like very much his voice and interpretation, even if he pronounces some "funny spanish words"...Bravooo!!!!

  • Great singing!! Bad orchestration though and the mixing is poor. There is no sense of rhythm in the orchestration. The singing is great!!

  • @nowbellhere I agree. I think Franco is using a very free rhythm though. He is not singing rhythmically the whole time. I think the orchestra is doing a decent job following him.

  • Franco "Gallardia" Corelli

  • Bravisssssssimo, grande !!

    Una de las mejores interpretaciones...

  • Bravo Maestro

The last high C was unbelievable !!

  • el mejor cantante de tda la historia!!

  • @luiszaoo vero

  • que insensatéz llamarle burdo a Franco...

  • Great version!

  • Five stars! Amazing Corelli!

  • a que nota llego?

    what is the note?

    4:19

  • @mactopolis Of course this IS Corelli's voice.

  • Comment removed

  • 4:19 - Impresive ending!

  • Stupid cameraman !

  • I think the underrated Jose Carreras does a better version of this song.

  • amazing!

  • Bruno....

  • You think Corelli was a spinto? He sounds lyrical to me. I think Domingo is a spinto, though.

  • boxingin....I KNOW Corelli was a spinto..

his voice could carry to the back walls

of the old MET and his ringing high

Cs were legendary. Lyric he certainly

was not. Pavorotti, Bjorling were lyric

tenors...Corelli had twice the size inside

    the opera houses.

  • I did a little more research on Corelli and he was discribed as a Spinto. So I guess you're right. Thanks.

Now, you say a Spinto's voice is bigger and stronger than a Lyrical Tenor's ?

  • boxingin...absolutely correct. The sound of a spinto has much more carry than a lyric. The next step up is dramatic such as Del Monaco. Corelli if he had started earlier could have been classified the same. Both had incredible tone and carry to their voices, though Del Monaco was often criticized for "putting the pedal to the metal" vocally too often. PPP didn't seem to be in his repetoire. Both legendary tenors.
  • brunobrandy... I learn something everyday and thanks to your input it immediately got me searching google, regards.

  • Tauheke...TY.

  • from all the discussions and my listenings i came to a conclusion that if you want power go to a dramatic but if you want brightness and unforced delivery go to a lyric.:)

  • I wonder if Corelli knows of what he sings. His facial expressions convey anything but pleasantry.

  • Yes, Jonnybrams...the man knew what

he was singing.he spoke Italian as his

native tongue..you think he didn't know

    Spanish? Please.

  • I'm sure the man understood Spanish. This interpretation and facial expressions just don't do much for me. Certainly his diction doesn't help with this.

  • You can think what you want..not all

great singers make people happy with

    certain songs but remember you're

talking about a vocal legend here, not

a poser who just won Britain's Got

    Talent.

  • I recognize that, my friend--I won't deny that Corelli ranks among the best--and if my comment seemed derisive it was only because I was a little disappointed.

  • Understood Johnny..no problem.

  • youre right, about granada, first lanza and then the rest of the world

  • @ronaldo190172 mario lanza? lanza is a pop singer not opera singer

  • Maybe so but his version of Granada is second to none

    saludos

  • @aferiha ES VERDAD AMIGO..FRANCO CORELLI ES UNICO...Y NO SE LE DIÓ EL LUGAR QUE CORRESPONDE...HAY UN L.P DE CANCIONES RELIGIOSAS QUE ES FABULOSO....SALUDOS

  • @aferiha A HUEVO NINGUNA LA IGUALA. EL PODER VOCAL EL COLOR Y LA VIRILIDAD DE CORELLI NO TUVIERON IGUAL Y AL PARECER NO LO TENDRAN.

  • @aferiha A HUEVO NINGUNA LA IGUALA. EL PODER VOCAL, EL COLOR Y LA VIRILIDAD DE CORELLI NO TUVIERON IGUAL Y AL PARECER NO LO TENDRAN.

  • iugosa? naaaaaaaa!

  • Despite what anyone else says, this is clearly mimed...Great singing though...

  • Yes, it is, as the video description clearly says.

  • Oh yes, sorry, I was concentrating on the singing, not the description...

  • @Englishtenor2 - yes it's lipsynched. Most singing on t.v. is lipsynched, and almost all singing on film is lipsynched One exception was Rex Harrison in My Fair Lady. He sang live, because he said he couldn't/ wouldn't lipsynch. As a result, his performance is the most affecting singing in the movie. Too bad more people don't sing 'live.' It's so much more exciting.

  • @sopranosd the unfortunate fact here is that corelli is using a 20+ year-old recording. as much as i admire his talent, this is deception and desparation. lanza sang live on television all the time in the 50's.

  • @jgraif Wrong on Lanza this time my friend , Lanza on live TV lip-synced to old recordings and was skewered immediately by the press for doing so. Lanza to make amends with the press and all the critic's that said he had lost his voice , invited them all to a private session where he sang as only he could and assured them his voice was as good as ever. All the Greats make mistakes in their careers this was one of Franco's.

  • @Etnalleb thank you for setting me straight. i really did not have the right information and i apologize. however, someone else responded to me saying that this program was supposed to be a tribute to various "retired" singers and the idea was to have them lip-sync to their old recordings!! i'm sorry, but i think that is a travesty of the worst sort. keep in touch!

  • well, now i know that horrible feeling italians experience when they listen to sutherland singing in their language. Beautiful singing but i couldnt get past the pronuciation

  • i have huge respect for corelli (and others) but i prefer mario lanza for this piece.

  • i got nothing but to agree totally friend.

  • wtf he was lip syncing?

  • See the description of the video.

  • oh yeah i didnt see taht

  • @tehen162 as much as i love corelli, it is unbelievable that he got away with lip-synching to a 20 year-old performance. you know, lanza NEVER did that, enough said.

  • @jgraif This is amusing. Corelli, in contrast to Lanza, sang hundreds of LIVE performances of whole operas at the greatest opera houses of the world.

  • @tehen162 and that gives him the right to mis-represent himself on television to the general public? lanza was accused of using the available recording technology to his advantage. the fact is that the recording engineers consistently faced the challenge of lanza's voice over-loading the equipment. in the late fifties, lanza performed "be my love" on television using the recorded orchestra track minus the jeff alexander choir. he sang live while smoking a cigarette.

  • Since ratings are disabled....I give it FIVE STARS

  • What can one say..if one is speechless and words are simply not enough.........

  • He seems very pleased with his perfirmance,as he should be.GREAT

  • wow, jamas a cantado nadie asi, era increible don franco corelli, jamas habia escuchado ke alguien atacara ese agudo de esa manera, x algo es el incomparable corelli xk nadie c le compara vocalmente

  • BRAVOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Immortal Franco .now you belong to the eternity !

  • half point.

Better than Pavarotti? Yes. Pavarotti does a horrible.

Domingo? Domingo does this song in his own great style. Its a perfect match for Placido.

Florez? This is the most overhyped singer i have ever heard of. He is ok, not a bad singer, but people are desperate for another great that we are willing to pick anybody. So No, not Florez.

Wunderlich does this great as well... and oh look you forgot Lanza...

  • yeah lanza was great too i forgot^^

  • Florez is a great singer, his voice is just very light. Perfect for Donizetti and other bel canto roles

  • I agree... but why do you say that here?

  • the user Resendiz mentioned him. He said:

"Florez? This is the most overhyped singer i have ever heard of. He is ok, not a bad singer, but people are desperate for another great that we are willing to pick anybody. So No, not Florez."

    I disagreed with him.

  • Oh you're right, excuse me. I disagree too. But I agree when he speaks about Wunderlich. Xaaau

  • @LordMoe9 but not for granada

  • What a high C he did!!! you know only Wunderlich and Gedda sung Granada in that key. the original is a 3 lower

  • this guy looks like james bond

  • why do you have audio from 60's?

  • why disable ratings??? Moron...

  • Really not my favorite song- but it's an awesome tenor showcase. I can't decide if Corelli's, Wunderlich's or Lanza's rec is my favorite.. they're all so good, although Lanza hits a C# at the end instead of C.. amazing

  • I never thought any-one could out sing Mario Lanza but Corelli did so on the one. Damn he blows this piece into the stratosphere.and it's Corelli who hits the High C# not Lanza. Wunderlich sang this great too but he's not in the same league as Corelli. It's Corelli,Lanza, then Wunderlich to most people who have heard all 3 sing this piece.

  • Lanza made two recordings of this song, one was a regular recording made for a record and the other was for the movie "Because you're mine." The one in the movie, he hit a C#5. Check it out :) Corelli's rec probably is the most technically impressive but Lanza's there with him and I just like his voice better in general but they're all great.

  • @Etnalleb i, too, love corelli and lanza. my problem is that this "performance" makes use of a 20 year-old recording. i find it very disappointing that corelli was so desparate that he mis-represented himself to the public on television.

  • @jgraif I don't understand your problem here. This film was made after Corelli's retirement, for an Italian tv show. Similar films (lipsynched) were made with other famous singers like Bergonzi, Becchi using their earlier recordings. Why would have been Corelli desparate to "misrepresent himself" seven years after his retirement? That makes absolutely no sense. This tv show did not try to suggest that these singers would have sung live or been active at the time the film was made.

  • @tehen162 i guess what i don't understand is the reason for a tv show that presents retired singers lip-syncing to their old recordings. i mean, where does it end? does one go on television at 90 years of age and lip-sync to a recording made at 35?

  • @jgraif I can understand the reason quite well. When these singers were at their peak, for most people there was no chance to see them perform. No telecasts, only broadcasts. These segments helped to imagine what was it like. Besides, previous to each aria there was an interview with the singer about the role, his life etc. This program summed up their careers presenting their most important roles in costumes. Although over 60, Corelli was far from looking like a 90 years old here.

  • @tehen162 thank you for taking the time to write such a considered explanation for me. i really appreciate it. merry xmas!!

  • bravo franco

  • MAESTRO FRANCO CORELLI-¡¡¡Come lui NON AVRÀ NESSUNO!!!-¡¡¡BRAVO POR SIEMPRE!!!...

  • He appears to be facing himself at a mirror, and matching lips with pre-recorded song did by himself. Anyway, his voice is so exuberant that this high C worths the show.

  • GRANDEEEEE TENOR SPINTOOO

  • ,The recording of this song is in 1977.

This is in playback but it does not matter to me. He is Franco Corelli anyway!

    Viva Franco Corelli per sempreeeeee......

  • Corelli's voice is nothing short of amazing. Really.....Power.

  • I have but two things to say: I love Corelli and watch this:

    watch?v=u7moPpoXdL8

  • G R A N D E!

  • Technically, if you're "lip syncing", you'd be syncing a different singer. This is simply a video of him from the 60's, with a later recording.

  • He looks so young here, wonderfully young looking if he was 60 years old.

  • What a splendid C at the end!

  • Thank you for posting such a great recording on YouTube. I have not heard of this artist until now. What a shame.

  • Una voz bellisima.

  • tenhen, I do not mean to argue but I met Corelli several times; my uncle was from his town of Ancona. I do not believe the video of him was from the 1980's. If you look at some of his early 1970's videos on You Tube you will see him starting to age a bit. He was something though and this is a great video

  • The video is definitely from the 80-s, precisely from 1982. Visit Rene Seghers' site (francocorelli . nl) go to the Pagliacci DVD, and Bonus II. The description of the Bonus II (which are these videos) clearly indicates 1982 as the year of recording. The booklet enclosed to the commercial DVD states the same date.

  • oyde is right. He looked older in 1980. By the way he retired from stage in 1976. That does not agree with the young look in your video.

  • No, I am afraid not. According to the new biography the date of the recording was 1982.

  • Does he ever take a breath ?

  • Yeah right!!!???What's going on????It takes one every 5 min seriously! Just at the end : "hhaahhh"!

  • WOW, the last note is a do hi. Amazing, i dont know any aria that has this note, tell me one if you know it, any aria I imagine is lower: Nessum dorma, E lucevan le stelle, Vesti la gioubba, Torna Surriento, etc etc.

  • There are many. With Corelli on youtube: Di quella pira (Verdi: Trovatore, Corelli's Cs are stunning in it), Salut demeure chaste (Gounod: Faust), Sfolgoro divino raggio (Donizetti: Poliuto), A te, o cara (Bellini: I Puritani). There are many arias in the bel canto repertoire with C, the most famous one is Tonio's aria from La fille du regiment (Donizetti,9 Cs), but almost every aria written by Rossini for a tenor has at least the C, even the high D.

  • Thank you very much!!!!

  • Murio Franco Corelli?

  • Bravissimo Franco!

  • i love franco, but it's interesting to hear him sing in spanish. not good, but interesting :--) what a high note at the end. un grande tenore...bravissimo

  • Yes, it is exactly that recording, only the video was made for a tv show in the 80-s. To avoid any further misunderstanding, I updated the video description.

  • Wow, if this was done in 1984, he would have been about 63 years old. He looks terrific!
