I use to watch this on Pat Robertson's CBN and later on Ted Turner's TNT
God Bless Chad Everett and MGM The Company that also owns Medical Center, Logan's Run, "CHiPs", American Gladiators and of course, The Man From U.N.C.L.E.
My older sis studied nursing in college around the time this came out- her professors told the class to watch this as it was the most realistic medical drama at the time.
This, along with St. Elsewhere, were the two greatest medical drama on TV. Who can never forget the episode where Robert Reed got a sex change. I refer to that episode as "When Mike Became Carol."
Never missed this....I really liked the doctor shows. Of course now we have the real doctor shows but there's just something missing. I guess the old shows like this were sort of like soap operas, but I really liked them anyway.
I had never heard of this show(as far as I remember) until today when I started googling medical dramas from the 60's/70's ie ben casey, marcus welby, this one. The theme is gloriously 70's and I wish shows like this and the other classic medical shows would be released on DVD.
I agree with you TV Land is great but they are getting to stupid showing Show like Class Reunion and allother updated Junk like that on there network.
@rebel70s MEDICAL CENTER THE FIRST SEASON IS AVAILABLE TO PREORDER AT WBSHOP.COM THE STREET DATE IS 7-12-11. ALL MEDICAL CENTER FANS SHOULD ORDER THIS SET. HOPEFULLY THEY WILL RELEASE ON SEVEN SEASONS OF THIS CLASSIC MEDICAL DRAMA.
When i watched this TV series, I was very young. maybe around ten. i could not understand too much about it. But now i still remember the operation theatre with 'audience' above.
The intro brings back some memory. i am excited to see the ambulance.
Personally, I liked Chad Everett with his gorgeous eyes and nice body. James Brolin as Dr. Kiley always looked like he never washed his hair. Plus his ears looked too big. I just wish my doctors could look as nice as Drs. Gannon and Kiley :-)
The first version was all meical calls and dialog. Very sterile and to the point. This was from season 3. Season 2 had a very simular sound, but cleaner. I've been looking for that one too.
me and my brother use to impersonate those two doctors that run in at the end of the intro when this show premiered back in the mid70s.thanks for taking me back in the days......bigbadwolf
Yes, Lalo Schifrin composed this theme which, if I'm not mistaken, was not used in the opening credits until the second season of the series - though Schifrin's involvement with "Medical Center" went as far back to his scoring of its pilot, "U.M.C.".
What a spectacular theme!!! I remember sitting in front of the TV as a kid, watching this opening, then going off to bed. I can't remember much about the show itself, but the theme is second to none!
for all you trivia buffs, here's a little bit of info. The minimoog and hammond organ parts of the theme were played by james Hooker. You can google the name and get more info on his music. Also he has some postings on youtube also.
I`ve been looking for this all over, and at last found it here! Great theme music, same as I thought nearly 40 years ago. Thanks very much for posting this, Tbbw!
Don't forget his writing of the "Cool Hand Luke" music... the tar-sequence was the revered theme music for many an "Eyewitness News" broadcast in many cities!

Medical Center was a great show. I used to watch it all the time. It was TV's longest-running medical drama until ER passed it.

I always loved that just barely in tune synthesizer at the beginning of the theme, playing that long glissando.

Good show. O. J. Simpson was in an episode--before he killed his wife and the waiter who served her last meal.

@AmazingG07 Word has it that Mr. Everett proclaimed his wife as 'property' on a talk show, prompting a female guest star to abruptly walk off.

The theme was also issued on a Verve 45. A Hank Williams song was on the B-side (!!)

As kids we watched this because there was nothing else on. We saw "adult" shows with "adult" themes. Now it is all geared to the under 20 crowed.
This is the show that got me into medicine.
