@EarlySeed It is a form of holding. In Thailand, the clinch is standard but Western rules are different. Its comparable to a boxer's clinch, which is illegal because it doesn't allow your opponent punch. The Thai clinch also disables your opponent. However, there's a difference. If the Thai clinch is used for offense. If executed correctly it impairs an opponent's ability to block, makes it impossible for him to kick, and leaves him nearly defenseless against knees to his head.

@Ziming Naaah. A few days ago I used to think that JDS and Overeem are equally good in standup. After all Overeem won the K-1 GP but JDS was preparing to box at the Olympics. Now it would be logical to think the competition in boxing is much bigger than in kickboxing so JDS is actually the more decorated striker, but over the last few days I've been watching a lot of kickboxing and these guys are great. Just because JDS outstruck Carwin doesn't mean he has any chance against Spong.

I'd say the striking difference between JDS and for example Denis Boytsov is much bigger than the striking difference between JDS and Over. Over is very good at picking his shots and he's explosive but I grew up boxing and I know good strikers from exceptional strikers. Overeem doesn't have enough output, footwork, stamina or defense. He blocks very well and picks his shots (continues)

I am obviously talking about the top strikers in boxing and K1. JDS is great but put him against a top 5 boxer and he will be put to sleep. Overeem looked quick to me and I have a boxing back ground. He kept his hands down and dodged Brock's punches with no trouble at all.

Carwin hit Brock like 45 times in rd 1 and couldn't finish the job, and Cain hit Brock many times as well to finish him. Overeem hit Brock about 7-9 times before he folded over like a chair. Brock did decent striking against Cain before Cain took it to him, how ever he couldn't strike worth a flip against Overeem.

It was nice to see this fight again. Good matchup. I think Spong's biggest mistake was not using better footwork. If you are going to just trade punches and only move straight forward and backwards, Overeem is going to overpower almost anyone. Spong had control in the first round, but he's going to need to make some adjustments and be a bit more evasive if they fight again. Overeem did a really nice job of not panicking when he was stunned early and stuck with his strengths for a big win.

@sensfan10000 in the Reems MMA fights he doesn't throw very many body kicks, if any at all, which is the type of kick most likely to get caught. Leg kicks and high kicks are very hard to catch and therefore its more difficult to take the attacker down. Overeem has great mix up ability with his strikes and his clinch is DEVASTATING, and i don't think Brock is ready for that. And Overeem is no slouch on the ground either if it ends up there.
