If you're an alcoholic - here's a tip! Might not work if your physically dependent but if you havent got to dat stage yet then try it! Next time you want a drink, make yourself the drink. Spend time preparing it measuring the amount of spirits or whatever, or preparing a glass full of ice for a cold beer. Once it's ready POUR IT DOWN THE FUCKING DRAIN. DONT THINK TWICE. JUST POUR IT DOWN THE DRAIN. And if the craving becomes too much then simply - get some weed, and smoke it til you pass out
Alcohol does make it's way to every organ and can have damaging effects if abused. Prolonged drinking does have adverse effects on brain function but my argument was simply that it doesn't kill braincells. We're both right on that, I guess. And the cause of ulcers is debatable. It's believed by most doctors that they're genetic. Not stress or food related. And anyways, your stomach acid is 100 times more corrosive than pure ethyl alcohol which is only corrosive through oxidation.
Contrary to popular belief, alcohol does not destroy brain cells. But prolonged excessive drinking can have serious negative effect on cognition. This is due to several factors, but not a lack of brain cells. And also this chick is describing the worst case scenario drunkards. Not us 3 double shots in a sifter a night drunks that get along just swimmingly. peace.
@ShaithMaster Been ages since you wrote that but here this is. Acids are in lots of things, and most alcoholic beverages do contain small amounts of protien. Protien is made up of chains of amino acids, the BUILDING blocks of life. Just because it's an acid doesn't mean it's corrosive. It's simple science.
@josefabdon you're picking my words apart, what I was getting at was that alcohol is fat and water soluble and, yes it does, make its way to every organ and can cause problems almost anywhere depending on the person. And yes it is corrosive; it causes ulcers. And while short term drinking doesn't kill brain cells, long term drinking deprives it of B vitamins and It damages the way brain cells communicate
alcoholism is not a disease...its a choice...every person choices to drink...this looks like a confession video...clearing ur throat very often is also caused by over drinking..and u dont sound sick.... being a drunk is a choice...the beer/shot doesnt make you drink it
@messiahofnone82 that's basically like saying being gay is a choice.. fuck that Alcohol affects us different.. when was the last time you experienced withdrawals?
Alcholoism or any addiction is NOT a disease! If it was ppl would randomly get it..like cancer..you cant get addicted if you have self control or dont drink. Ppl have to take some personal responsibility for thier actions. in our society we want to take ALL personal responsibility away...no controle or consequences for our CHIOCES. Thats whats wrong. Alcohol abuse is terrible but it IS fixable if the person wants it. Grow up ppl.
Most ppl become alchololics or drug addicts to deal with personal issues...if you deal with those issues and take control of your life you can fix it. If you say "oh, I have a disease, its not my fault, its not something I can control"..your screwed. That mentality harms instead of helps.
I am a recovering addict...It is not a matter of self control...If it were that easy everyone would be sober...There's an expression that addicts use "one is too many and a thousand is never enough" It's very true...I agree that using the disease word as a cruth is a common problem...If we choose not to drink we can maintain sobriety, if we choose to drink there is no such thing as self control...it;s over after the first drink.
No, it IS a matter of self control...otherwise EVERYONE would be an addict! Sure some ppl find it harder to stop drinking, but its not like they dont have a chioce.
"If we choose not to drink we can maintain sobriety, if we choose to drink there is no such thing as self control...it;s over after the first drink. "...so what? evenyou used the worlds "choose"..its up to the individual, its up to personal responsability.
i'm not going to argue with you...it's hard for you to relate I get it...I can understand that...I'm not even sure it's a disease. I think it might be a "condition" of some sort...i know this may be hard for you to understand...There is more to it than just will power...I have will power and I am responsible...I own my own business, live a very good life, however I can't drink like everyone else...so I CHOOSE to abstain.
Ya, you choose...thats the issue. If its uncontrolable and you cant stop or its a "condition".. you dont have a chioce...but you admit you do. It is selfcontrole. You may find if harder than others to drink, and its good that you stopped, others find it hard to stop eating or whatever...harder doesnt mean impossible.
When I do drink, I have an impossible time controlling it...I know you will dismiss this as being weak or having no will power etc...But I can asure my friend that there is more to it than that...I've met so many people who think like me, maybe my brain is wired different than your's...Im not sure...but I can assure you that there is much more to it than just sheer will power...As I write this I can see you shaking your head..LOL....I know if i continue to drink I will die.
My father will die if he doesnt stop..and maybe even if he does..he is so far gone...but its no more being wired differently or being a condition or disease than those that do anything to excess. It is sheer willpower...and if it was easy, no one would be addicted. But it is up to the individual and what they want. Its that simple.
It's 12 steppers that use that phrase, not "addicts". They are repeating a slogan learned in therooms of aa/na. "Addict" is not a synonym for 12 step true believer.
If you are a problem drinker stop drinking. You know if you are a problem drinker. Stop lying to yourself, and rationalizing your decision to take the first drink.
13 We should live decently, as people who live in the light of day. Wild parties, drunkenness, sexual immorality, promiscuity, rivalry, and jealousy cannot be part of our lives. 14 Instead, live like the Lord Jesus Christ did, and forget about satisfying the desires of your sinful nature. [Romans 13:13-14]

However we were supposed to use a guided speech that was not read nor memorized. Practice the speech a few times to become familiar with the material so you can use this presentation style. It was a little monotone and got a little caught up in statistical details. had some good pauses. try to keep a upbeat and interesting tone.

There wouldn't be institutions, clinics, or rehab centers if it weren't a disease. This is obviously something serious.
