bruce is hamming it up a little too much in this version. see my thoughts on the actual nebraska recording by jakyhendrix. bruce is far too despondent on the album. and for these times 30 years later, that thought was right.
would love to see the Avett Brothers cover this song...loved Bruce's version when it came out .. the whole Nebraska album...and Johnny Cash's version is even more stark, if not as churning...i think the Avetts are genuine enough to hang with both Johnny and Bruce, and that is saying something....and would bring also their own unique gifts to their version
i was at this show back in the day while being stationed in Germany with the army. Everybody looks so young. Getting old really sucks and now the BIG MAN is gone. r.i.p. Clarence, you were the best sax player i've ever seen.
Nebraska is a fucking amazing album. There are so many words to describe its awesomeness. While Born To Run will always be the quintessential Springsteen album in my opinion, Nebraska stands as the definitive Springsteen album. It's raw, uncompromising and unpolished. There are no winners, only losers in Bruce's tales of the broken American dream.
bruce is more than the great. he is stupendous. he is the BOSS & a LEGEND. im 11 yrs old.. and i wnna meet bruce so baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad. he is like my hero :) im from jersey <3
@springsteen4eva9 I'm 15 and far away from Taiwan. So Glad to find another bruce fan around my age!! Too bad that Bruce isn't so famous in my country now : (
@vvjm1221 I'm 15 and a huge Bruce fan too! None of my friends get how awesome he is; they all like modern, crappy music. The internet is really the only place where I can talk to like-minded people.
he still looks a little like this, i saw him earlier in Hyde Park, he went down frm the stage and as he came back up he said "some one get me a fuckin elevator! im fucking 60!"
i know, i really didnt expect that, how old are you by the way, i just turned 16 and was ID'd lucky i took my card =], do you know the full set list fo what he played i knowmost of it, but would like to remember it all ?
It is awesome to see the video that they recorded the live cd for I've never here the studio version of this song but I listen to this song from the CD's attest once a day and I've seen the boss perform it live in L.A. one of his best songs and one of my favorite songs
Johnny was a laid off auto worker. Hmmmmm, could we see this happen in the coming months? Or what about the home forclosure? Who do we blame for that?
hmm there arent too many videos of this song on youtube...how popular was it? I'm just 15 but i love bruce...my dad always talks about this song..its one of his favorites..its unfortunate i can't find more videos of it.
this is awesome, dylan-inspired, of course, very like the desire album, but still a devestatingly moving piece of american liberalism (let's hope this is ressurected in the elections - vote HILLARY)
Subject Rambo: It's true in those days Bruce looked a lot like Stallone. And still sometimes, they are both half italian and have a similar style of dressing and acting. But there is one big differencde if you compare them:their political position is 100% opposite,Bruce always was against the war and with the democrats;Stallone clearly is with the american conservatives like Bush!I am with Bruce because he sings like a real man instead of fighting and jumpin round with machine guns in movies.
@johnnygonzales Another difference,Sly was & still is(recently busted at the border with HGH)taking illegal supplements,Bruce does it the healthy way & his body looks like a pro athlete's at age sixty,to still put on the show he does is amazing.
@johnnygonzales Plus Bruce never used HGH or Steroids,Bruce posed shirtless foe aarp magzine for his 60th b-day he's built like a pro athlete at 60,no wonder he can still put on a show like that.
@johnnygonzales The movie First Blood is not about just shooting and jumping around , this man comes back mentally junked and his country dont want him back, and all he did was what his country asked of him , and in the movie Rambo was about depicting how brutal the genocide in burma is, movies are just another art form as music is , so stop being a one sided idiot who thinks he has an opinion , they are both great
@ramble26on OK by me, if YOU consider Stallone's movies really a smart form of art. I don't agree. BUT stop using words like "idiot" in the comments unless you are one yourself, ok?
@johnnygonzales umm no its not okay , you just used made facts up , because i mean you obviously had stallone tell you himslef that he loves bush. Art is a matter of opinion, both men are great in there own art form...but your clearly to biast, narrowminded and um whats the word, oh yeah , an idiot to explore both mens work in depth and give what they have to say a chance, maybe some situations call for a fight , do you feel we should have done nothin when the NAZI troops were killing jews?
@johnnygonzales Amen, Johnny. And don't forget, Stallone is a chickenshit chickenhawk who dodged the draft by going to Europe. At least the Boss didn't chicken out. He went for his draft physical, but was deemed unfit.
I live in NJ not too far from Bruce. I run into him quite often. Believe it or not, he remembers people by name and is VERY Gracious, friendly and charming. A real down to earth guy. He is his image.
Lucky Man...I'd dream to meet him, not like a crazy fan, but just to shake his hand and say thank you for all he brought in my life...I have so much respect for this man.
Seen him in Ireland 85...missed him in Montpellier a week or two later. missed him by one night in New Jersey in 99' but none would seem to match this...outstanding!!!
