  • Great great song.....

  • Why people always play Bethany when the topic is RMS Titanic? This version of Nearer My God To Thee was never played on the actual ship (it the hymn was played at all, the version played was either Horbury of Propior Deo) and the bandsmen weren't even familiar with it, so why make connection between them?

  • I'm crying now!

  • This is the song of heroes.

  • The orchestra members were truly heroes.

  • For the 2 ( at this moment ) who didn't like this, you mustn't have a heart!! People DIED in this awful event, almost 100 years ago. HAVE SOME RESPECT.

  • This song don't need lyrics!!! It's just perfect. This song has a real power in my heart and another.

  • Whenever this scene plays, i fall silent. Even though i want to cry, i dont. it's just that many believed that Titanic was 'unsinkable'. To those who think crying is for the weak and the wuss, GET A F**KING CLUE! WHAT IF IT WAS YOUR GRANDPARENTS OR EVEN YOU?! Either respect those who stayed, or kiss up to those that suvived. your choice.

  • It sucks how everything that needed to go wrong to make the sinking a disaster did go wrong.

  • i understand this happend about 100 years ago but its still not a joking matter

  • this was played at my grans funeral

  • great song for a funeral...its so sad....yet it fit the moment of the ships death...rest the soles of all who died .....but it if weren't for this sinking....many more lives could of been lost....for this ship taught us a lesson....that no matter what class, race or w.e a person is...everyone should get off if the ship is sinking...safely!

  • We do not know today why the orchestra choose to play this particular song . We do know that at that time in history, it was often played at the funerals of professional musicians.

  • @morriswilburn It's simple. They were all going to die.

  • @beefybeebuzz you're a real class act...a real class act.

  • what the fuck man....

  • lol, i cant even tell if your serious or not. but if you are you couldnt have made it less ..blunt ? xD

  • i really want this played at my funeral...

  • well this is apparently the last song that was played by the quartet as the ship sank. this song is quite popular at funerals anyway.

  • they used it in ALL the titanic movies! maybe it was done for that reason

  • @Thespoofshow1 They used it because many of the survivors reported hearing this song whilst they were on board and from looking at lots of witnesses many stated this song therefore it stands to reason that it probably was played at some point on the Titanic because so many people heard it. This is way it's in the movie.

  • @chazzaroonie It's all a matter of interpretation. And the words fit the situation quite well.

  • too sad....i want jack dawson's luck played at mine. (:

  • when do you plan on dying so that we can play it....lol

  • @LARUCUS Um...Dude why are u Thinking about ur Funeral ?

  • @LARUCUS I agree. and I MEAN THIS TITANIC VERSION. This version is a little different than normal.

  • is this not where the band are playing for the last time when its sinking.

  • yes it is. And then they get discouraged but start again.

  • your grammars terrible.

i think you meant to say "is this not the last song the band played while it sank"

  • haha! Whats with the grammar? u sound like a dumbass

  • when i hear this i can picture this part in the movie in my mind.

  • oh god me too, no matter how much you hear it it is always so beautiful and sad.

  • and its been a privilage playing with you too.

  • when i watched titanic this song made me cry.

    such a great music piece.

  • gentlemen,it has been a previlge playing with you tonight

  • @yihanglee and then you die..... RIP

  • @yihanglee that gives me chills.

  • my great grandma died on the titanic :'(

  • Wow. Thats sad. :( But really neat, as in the tie to the titanic. Im sorry you never got to meet her?

  • What makes it sadder is the fact that no members of Titantic's band survived the sinking. Instead of sending thanks & compensasion to thier family, White Star sent them a bill for thier lost instruments & uniforms.

  • that is totaly fucked up

  • I can just picture this song playing in every famous captains mind as his ship sinks (Lindemann of the Bismarck, McSorely of the Edmund Fitzgerald, the captain of the HMS Hood, and so on.

  • That just proves one thing, that big businesses (aka white star line) dont care about the employed welfare, just how much money they can bring in -.-

  • Realy???Thats is very very sad!

  • wow

    what assholes

  • It's sad? I feel like I wanna cry so badly?

  • is this the song that the volinist were playin on the film? and they kept on playin it even when the boat was sinking?

  • Yes it is the song in the movie. But there is a lot of speculation that this wasn't the song being played. The women who reported the song was being played had already left the ship. More witnesses say the song"Autumn" was being played. To be honest, I thought this song fit the seen better than Autumn did in the old movie A Night to Remember even if it is innacurate. The really important thing though to remember is that the band did play while the ship sank were very brave.

  • i whole heartedly agree

  • yea cuz lke all the mne died so thre was kind of no reason to even make a run for it

  • this is one of my fav songs

  • its really sad :(
