I mean yeah, it's understandable, being "Apple" and all, but this won't work with a printer (hp) that's paired with my PC? I don't expect to be able to send something from my iTouch 4G to my PC as a pdf/jpg, but am I at least able to get my printer to print it from my iPod?
@JdEnigma07 Technically no, you have to use a service on your Mac to serve the printer to the iOS device. Currently the only printer that supports driverless printing is the e-print series from HP, and there you can print directly without having to go through a computer.
@101ipodguy Pair? To what extent? I do have videos on the Remote App for the Apple TV, t hat's the only way of pairing to an iOS device. As for a Mac, you can pair for bluetooth tethering but nothing else because the iOS device doesn't have a transparent file directory.
@detroitBORG thanks im thinking about getting the capsule, if i got te airport extreme and a seperate external hard drive it would probably add up to the same amount
@snipers28 Keep in mind that you can't use an attached HDD on the AirPort Extreme as a Time Machine backup drive, it can only work with the Time Capsule (it uses proprietary software to packet the data over a wireless network and on the TC can do so).
Hay, what dose the mute switch do on the iPad? I do it and see volume with slash through it, but I can still hear the music. Is this a software problem??
thanks for the help ill probably get a new white 13inch macbook 4gb ram and 250gb hard drive , i saw your unboxing of the airport extreme and time capsule which one do you recommend ?
@snipers28 The Time Capsule is expensive but I like having the backup drive off my desk. I would get it, I've used it often to restore or clone Macs many times.
@TheDessureault09 Thanks, I am all better now, although making this video half-sick was a chore (although I never got one done so quickly because of it ;).
@AZ100x AirPrint is designed to natively work Wirlessly with a certain line of HP printers. However, this workarounds simply needs a Mac acting as the print server for the iOS device. The Mac just needs to be connected to the printer, either networked (wired or wireless) or USB.
I use AirPrint hacktivator because it is free. but what I do like about principle is the ability to open webpages to my Mac. I didn't know it could do that. Then I could easily move my browsing to my computer, but what about the other way around...?
@rileysmith221 If the printer is printable from your Mac (wired/USB or wireless/network), then it will be printable on your iOS device running iOS 4.2+ via AirPrint and Printopia on your Mac.
I want to say, your videos are the most professional, entertaining, and informative to watch in regards to tech stuff. And I really appreciate all the cutting edge new release apple products you demonstrate as it gives me my 'fix' as I don't own apple products currently.
awesome vid, as I like how you demonstrate the functionality of the work around app 'printopia'. Neat to see first hand the first steps of the evolution of the apps and functionality of them as they are in first stages of launch.
@Detriot BORG In my house we have no Macs so how can you print without having a Mac but i'm getting one soon this year maybe for Christmas but how do you print without having a Mac?
don't buy a from ebay or some kind of second hand store. my first mac was from ebay (macbook black), i paid 400 eur, but i knew that i could just use it with a magsafe and not with the battery. 2 months later the harddisk broke, so i went to apple and they said to repear this and the logicboad (because of the battery) would coast 600eur. i'm nit crazy and just 13 years old! so in one week its my birthday and i'll buy me a brand new imac!
seen all you videos there great , saving up for a mac or mac mini im 14 so need it for school , social networking, email , videos photo editing and presentations and surfing the net what do you think will suit me and is it worth buying second hand ?
@snipers28 Of course, a Mac is graet for all of those things. Video editing is much more demanding on a system so if that's a consideration you may want to look at a system with as much CPU and RAM as youc an get. Go for 2.4GHZ C2D and 4GB of RAM as least. And buying used is always risky unless you have AppleCare coverage on it, try to buy refurbed from Apple if you can.
@rednes800 I hear though it i only compatible with certain printers... And I was pretty sure you needed a printer with wireless... if you are talking specifically about airprint - or are you talking about Printopia?
I am just curious if anyone else is having trouble with airprint not finding a printer the macbook can find? Also if that is what this work around is fixing?
@Gene2713 same with me. my printer is connect to my airport extreme via usb so i am able to print wirelessly from all of my computers. It just doesn't work for the ios 4.2, but air print only works with a few hp printers until updated for more.
@Gene2713 This allows the iOS 4.2 device with AirPrint the ability to use a Mac as a go-between. Essentially, your Mac becomes your print server for the iOS device so it has to be on and connected to your printer in some way (network or USB). Apple doesn't like this solution much at all and instead wants a direct solution that requres no drivers. Only the HP eprinters overs this seamless solution.
Can't you just hackactivate the native feature?I mean that free and it uses the real AirPrint retire before pulled so it is only 3 lines of code so your computer doesn't slow down and there are no conflicts (just saying)
@unmashable You need local network access, but you don't need internet.

@Tacocat21 That's a good question ;) The media apps override the mute switch and have their own volume control (or you use the volume rocker).
