  • @LJonYT Glad to see you've since seen the light and been saved! In other words you've been saved from a life of senseless religious bullshit.

  • before a judge

  • Or we can not get married, I mean we're aren't biologically programed to, it's a cultural or religious construct as I see it.

  • we rented a hotel ball room and hired a decorator.

  • I can appreciate your vid. My gf. and myself are planning to do it at the beach. Regardless of the weather. Sun would be preferred though.

  • You can get a Humanist officiator to do weddings, funerals and even "namings" (secular cermonies equivalent to baptisms) from the American Humanist Association.

  • I like your suggestions.

Seems like people forget they have countless options.

  • The fact that atheists can and do marry is proof that marriage is not a 'religious institution'.. you can have a secular, non-denominational ceremony and never have any mention of gods or anything. With that in mind, atheists marry for the same reason everyone else marries: because they love someone and want to spend the rest of their life with them. No god involved in that equation whatsoever.

Also someone below made a good response: How/why do Christians divorce?

  • In California you don't have to control the weather: it's remarkably predictable. That's why I got married outside.

  • @SisyphusRedeemed You're in California? Me too, small world.

  • @LJonYT

Personally I find the ritual of marriage a stupid and retarded practice...

The origin of marriage is when a father would sell his daughter to money , power or influence.

This is why the woman changes her last name to show that she is being "sold" and belonging to someone else now.

Shrug... nothing changes after "marriage" ... its just a symbolic way to say the wife belongs to the man now.

Sorry but I don't believe to circumcise either.. I don't practice barbaric pagan rituals.

  • @LJonYT Actually, I'm no longer in CA. I grew up there, would like to be back there some day, but right now I'm in Indiana.

  • How Do Atheist Marry ?

I'm not delusional the whole idea of God is an insult to humanity and the children it brainwashes. I cant speak for all non morons or as you refer to them atheists. I will get married to vow to my wife the usual love stuff. This wont be in front of God it will be in front of our family and friends. The setting and traditions will be for the benefit of my wife who like most woman have dreamed about their prefect day and dress.

God = can go fuck himself or herself - HA

  • @DannyDzeko your so lost

  • Before getting married, you should ask yourself a few questions. Do you like the idea of getting married? Do you like the idea of having really great sex? Which one do you prefer? :P I Married my atheist wife with a Justice of the Peace. It was a secular ceremony, which disappointed both our families, but at least we were honest to ourselves. Everything was great.

  • How do Atheists get married???-----Vegas baby!!!!

  • How do Christians divorce?

  • they marry at the church or the mayors rooms as every other person..

you dont stop being a member of the community cause you are an atheist..

  • @christinepeace you're welcome! You asked and I couldn't resist. It's so much fun to think about the rites of passages and celebrations in life.

  • Thanks! Love video responces more then any other type you rock.

    Cheers Christine

  • @christinepeace, I got married at the courthouse. When the clerk asked me for $45 for the marriage license, I said "$45?! Forget it then!" And my lovely bride smacked me on the back of the head. Ah romance.

The real fun was during the honeymoon in Key West. Save your money for the honeymoon!

  • Katie and are planning to get married at Phipps Conservatory here in the Burgh.

There are great websites with non-religious alternative readings, etc.

  • @DasAmericanAtheist A conservatory sounds like a great idea.

    Cheers Christine

  • Excellent video Lisa, not a topic many people think about.
