With Windows Live Photo Gallery it is easy to tag faces.  It will find faces then you click and select a person. Facial recognicion sounds like it would be not very accurate in an actual product. It more sounds like something a research team would work on.

yeah... but then why is microsoft also pitching the ability to stitch photos together in a "panorama" - so while it's a "program" feature it a) runs deeper I'm sure (see recent news on the mac os incorporating facial movements) and is hella more useful (cataloguing ALL photos, automatically) rather than making ONE picture, that YOU have to do... Wouldn't buy either for those features, but mac's gott'em beat... AGAIN

I just got my mac 3 or 4 months ago, and I don't see any feature like that in Iphoto. I even did a software update, no luck...

My biggest beef w/ Iphoto is it doesn't' have a "next" button... So you have to manually drag the images into it instead of just browsing through folders.

One day they'll catch up :-)

Actually it goes through and catalogues all the pictures you have and looks for that face. So it doesn't matter if there are thousands before it.

That 'Faces' feature sounds awesome, as long as you tag the image the first time you upload it....before you added thousands of other pictures. Otherwise you're in the same situation.

If you never tagged your friends face first before adding thousands of photos to your album, you would then have to go through all of your photos until you find 1 photo of your friend before you can use Faces

Faces is pretty awesome but you don't need to tag the image first before you add more images. You can tag any photo at any time and the facial recognition does a pretty good job at finding that face in your entire library.

I can agree with that. Well, until this new version of iPhoto, there wasn't really tagging in this fashion. You could add comments/descriptions for a photo. However, I would hope that anyone with thousands of photos would do some kind of organization since iPhoto makes it so easy to do so!

Apple always sits well in my books for their innovations and new ideas and being the first on the block with them.
