He manipulates energy (specifically Kinetic energy, if I remember correctly). When he "charges" something with that kinetic energy, the resultant explosion is because the energy is unstable. At least, that's the explanation I've heard.

I could be way off - but there is truth to the Energy manipulation bit, at least to some degree. That's how he's so athletic and strong, is because of that energy in his own body. He doesn't just explode things >_>

The thing I like so much about Gambit was his history, how he was the greatest member of the thieves guild, how he was better than batman at both martial arts, stealth, and agility, how he was so powerful, he had to go to Doctor Strange to remove some of that power so he wouldn't destroy everyone and everything he see's.

Saw Wolverine yesterday and wasn't disappointed by Gambit, I have to say Taylor Kitsch did a decent job and was woefully underused. Gambit and Deadpool were both scene-stealing and funny so hopefully they will both feature in future films [as long as they don't murder Gambit by making him a student/ teacher in 'First Class']!
