  • This song touched me harder and longer than a catholic priest on a 12 year old boy. Yep.

  • So I've had this song on my ipod for years and just recently realized there was more music after the long silence... the "I love you so much" at the end is so heartbreaking!

  • wow, what a song, unexpected mind-blowing awesomeness!

  • I love this song...the feeling in his voice is so strong. Its simply amazing.

  • House Carpenter= Jesus.

Ties together with Rapture; the idea that God told her to kill the child. Most of the album tells a single story, sometimes it tells pieces of another. All I know is that the rain falling in the background really sets everything else off in this song perfectly, and the little track at the end of the song on the CD is just fucking incredible. If you ever have the chance, BUY the album and listen to it. The man can kill on the violin.

  • Im pretty sure they didnt write this song for it to be disputed over the meaning, it was meant to listen to, enjoy it, and hopefully touch you in some way. so everyone needs to stop bitching and enjoy this amazing song :)

  • if your not breathing why am i left alone in this shit if your not breathing why am i left alone ?

great line this band is so amazing very pure and honest

  • i have this cd and i fall asleep listening to it every night. i love this song.

  • im in love with this song......<3:)

  • Thumbs up for 2:34 ! ;)

  • I thought "House Carpenter" was a symbol, or embodiment of death or something similar, and this song is a variation from the original ballad adapted by HURT, talking about a lost loved one being "married" and "buried" to/with a house carpenter, being dead. OR it could be just lost to him, not dead. I don't know. I think it should be left for individual people to interpret it the way it means to them

  • @unrealityproduction Art... music... is always left open for interpretation.

  • Here the lyrics say "alone in this shit" but other lyrics online say"alone on this ship." What does it say on the liner in the CD?

  • @HColette one time it says shit and the other is ship

  • There's been a lot of discussion about the meaning of this song - Jesus being a carpenter, marrying people of other religions, etc. Google the traditional lyrics to "House Carpenter" (many versions) and you'll see that the wife of the carpenter ran off with the guy on the ship who loved her. The ship sank killing her and her lover. I think this is an alternative story-line. Here she stays with her house carpenter, and many years later the lover is thinking about his lost love. IMO.

  • Strange cover if I'm honest. They did NOT stay true to the original at all...

But Its interesting in its own right for sure.

  • 7 people are reggeton fans

  • im so happy that you got the lyrics for the whispered part i hadent seen them anywhere else :D

  • wow...is all I gotta say, this song is true for how I feel right now!!

  • @Akadiaan141 thats coz the house carpenter died. smart one ^_^

  • Most beautiful song ever made.

  • LOVEEEE this song... but seriously... they could have worked harder on the lyrics...

  • @deepagoyal >.< they all have the meaning that was intended

  • LOVEEEE this song... but seriously... they could have worked harder on the lyrics...

  • EPIC

  • loooovvveee this song. its so nice and peacful, it helps calm you down when you went threw alot in life.

  • Just Wonderfuuuuul...I love it!

  • Ok...to settle the religion argument, He says "If you've ever lost a loved one I'll pray for you" there, religion.

  • The opening guitar riff seems too similar to Kamelot's Elizabeth (Mirror Mirror).

  • @FatToti it is very similar. thanks for introducing me to kamelot

  • Still gives me chills. Wish they'd done more and better than they have. It's a shame when quality bands like this fall into obscurity.

  • Love this song. Fell in love with it the moment n came on the cd player <3

  • way better than coheed and cambria

  • One of the best songs ever! Lyrics to the heart <3

  • the way the songs begins, it's just amazing.

  • best song ever

  • at the time i am hearing this 7 people are assholes

  • I really enjoyed this unique rendition of "The House Carpenter" (:

  • why are we discussing god?

  • @SnarlingEclipse cus some people think this song has to do with religion, and there are always people waiting to start fights about religion

  • jh,bvkjuaysdgfuioyervbhilqeahjkvbcqulwyidvghqbuklsdyhjiqbfvyuias i think if kratos liked music hed fucking have this at the top of his ipod on replay to kill shit too

  • @crixuschampion lolwut

  • @crixuschampion Play a little less GoW, you don't sound healthy.

  • @GutShotHomie. I would say you have it backwards. The Jewish religion and majority of Jews do not believe Jesus is their savior, however there are some that do. What you said makes it sound like Jesus is a main staple of the Hebrew (Jewish) religion and that the majority believe Jesus is their savior while a small sect believe that he is not. Unless you are claiming that Hebrews and Jews are not equivalent. In that case I am the one who is confused

  • @teamforcefrontman i don't know but i think that is not the guitar that is the violin!:D

  • this song reminds me of the time when my ex cheated on me i remember sitting back in 06 listening to this song breaks my heart every time i hear it.

  • Hurt may not be my favorite all time band (that goes to SOAD btw.. dont even wanna argue bout that here..) but Hurt is definalty THE BEST band ever.

they are definatly my 1st and a half favorite band.. if thats even possible.

  • omg this is so awesome

  • i listen to this song to pump me up for my sport.

  • This song... is pure poetry. I've never heard anything like it.

  • Great opening and a great song alltogether! :)

  • agreed on the most passionate song I've heard being this one, checked out the other two that guy mentioned... and well didn't get it, the Floyd one was nice though

  • muyn buena

  • cant stop listing to this song just so epic

  • Pure poetry. THE most passionate song I can think of. The riffage is mindblowing. And the vocals. Arghh everything is perfect.

  • @ProtestTheIndie It is a pretty damn good song. But I think the most passionate song I've ever heard was "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys... or "Echoes" by Pink Floyd.

  • I love this song. Now im a fan

  • I love the ending where the girl says " I love you so much"

  • I love the ending where the girl says " I love you so much"

  • the best music to listen to when your depressed ever!!!

  • @davehurd83 thats wat im doin rite now. lol

  • This song means soo much more when you really like a chick that is engaged! I've always loved Hurt, this song just got a million times better.

  • When I listen to this song I have the urge to share it with the world.

  • @Valkbg I feel the same way. My favorite song. EVER.

  • left alone in this ship

  • The end just brought tears to my eyes.

  • This will always be my favorite song of all time by them. Alone with the sea and Wars ties in second, then comes Assurance, Shallow, Falls Apart, and Summer's Lost. I freakin' love Hurt.

  • wow.

  • This is by far one of the most emotionally based songs, and like any of hurt's songs, its epic... and can be interpreted in many ways.

  • this song touches base with so many emotions, unless you're an emotionless sack of skin. I've listened to this band on LSD it's as good as Tool or APC any day for an inward spiral of self-conscious thought. Though this band could use a better vocalist, he's almost too nasaly, but that's okay i still like this band.

  • The vocalist writes every song. C'mon man, listen to him screaming at the end. To sing like that you gotta FEEEEEL that shit. The passion behind the performance can be more important that how it sounds. Tho I think he sounds perfect

  • I completely agree, just listen to the song That (Such a Thing), he feels every lyrics. The passion for the music is what counts, not how you sound. Not everyone perfect.

  • I absolutely love this band, this song is amazing. I personally love Tool and APC as it is in most of my internet tags... this song has touched my heart in so many ways

  • cut the crap people and just listen to this orgasmic piece of music... no need to interpret, everyone do it on their own way

  • This song is so amazing. Has such a dark and sad sound to it not saying that's bad lolol, i really like it.

  • HUrt is this best therapy in the world please respect the people

  • This song is just so mellow and beautiful....pretty sad though.

  • If you've ever lost a loved one I pray for you, I really do!

  • opening is fucking amazing!! i love this song!!

  • @retard32145 Completely agree...this song made me want to learn to play guitar...

  • The song is about an ex-girlfriend of the singer/lyricist who was a strong Christian. It's about how she was very pious and she died. It's about never truly being able to be with her because she was married to her religion and she died. This is why it's a bad idea to date or try to be with someone who is so pious that even in death you can never really have them.

  • what do the lyrics of this song mean?

  • Comment removed

  • Capt. Obvious

  • sure is

  • just BRILLIANT

  • ok id you guys arent sure what the lyrics mean then go ask the lead singer or something

  • Your a freakin GENIUS

  • No son.... 'YOU'RE' a genius.

  • lol angel. if you didn't hear what disturbed said. He says that the father passes down the trade, or work, to his son. Since jesus was joseph's son. jesus was a carpenter.

  • Great song, love the lyrics, who cares who the house carpenter is. HURT FOREVER!!

  • Wow your all retards hes talking about falling in love being used and then hes left for the man she was truly in love with and cheated on him with because he messed up on accident

  • you said it

  • jesus wasnt a carpenter, his dad JOSEPH was

  • What do you think he did when he was a young adult? You think he had an easy life where people served him whatever he wanted? I think in his time he had no choice but to work.

  • Your a fucktard Rottenone, if you dont know what that means either, it means a fucking retard because Jesus was the son of Joseph whos trade was carpentry and obviously in the old days the father passed his craft down to the son. Tell me exactly where in the bible it says that he wasnt, and ill look it up

  • do you feel though by being offensive on internet? I just told my opinion, and by the way,Tell me exactly where the bible says he was. Even if he learned that craft there are no proofs that he worked as a carpenter =) calm down

  • sorry i meant *saw

  • I think he lost a person who he loved because of her attachment to Jesus, here called house carpenter. It can have a sense if you realize that he can be see like a SPIRITUAL house carpenter. Hope you get what i mean in my comment.

    great song by the way

  • jesus was a carpenter. thats why hes calling him a carpenter.

  • sorry man, jesus wasn't a carpenter, go read the bible.

  • pop dat pussy

  • HAHAHAHAHAHA

  • at first i though maybe it was about Jesus but when i listened to it like 100 times i relized that no he is talking about what he does in most of his songs( the personal fight we all have with in ourselves) well in my opinion

  • It sounds to me like he is talking about a girl he wanted that couldn't be with him cuz of the differences in his and her beliefs.

  • people get this straight- the house carpenter is not jesus. its a house carpenter. the fact that its a house carpenter does not effect the storyline. it could have been a doctor, or a pilot, but house carpenter fits in with the beat better.

  • check out the play list i got 35 songs it so cool

  • People what he ment by house carpenter, is that someone, who will make your life, like you would make a house, from the ground up. He will make you to whatever he or she wants. It doesn't have ANYTHING to do with God or Jesus.

  • Oops he wasnt a carpenter. I though he was but after reading my books he was miracle worker and had 12 disciples. He was teacher at 12 and etc.

  • jesus is a carpet man

  • Dumbass

  • jesus' father was a carpenter though....

  • in mark jesus is called a carpenter and

matthew says he was a carpenter's son but depending on translation it could read artisan or builder

doesnt really matter to be honest, the dude wasnt famous for his wooden chairs was he???

  • there is more proof of Sasquatch then their is of Jesus

  • no. jesus clearly existed as there are so many records of him, even caesar wrote about him

but he certainly in my opinion wasnt the son of god, for me he was just a religious leader who had some good points and history has elaborated the rest

  • caesar wrote about a man there is no proof it was jesus

  • yea he wrote about a man who we refer to as jesus (his name was actually yehoshua or joshua in modern terms)

i dont believe he was the son of god or any of that, but clearly a man who is now referred to as jesus did exist and was admired for his philosophy and supposed miracles

  • trust me i know the story of yehoshua i was brought up Hebrew but now that i am older i believe it is all a crock of shit

  • @killerphobia There is so much wrong with what you wrote that one can only conclude that you are being dishonest. First of all it would be Yeshua and not "yehoshua". Second, I highly doubt you are old enough that you were brought up Hebrew, because modern day Jews don't call themselves that. Thirdly if you were brought up Jewish or Hebrew you would not have been taught to believe in Jesus as your savior or that he was a positive figure for the Jewish religion.

  • @wiley16350 yes we Hebrew believe Jesus is our savior some jews do not

  • You wouldn't think this is good music to work out to, but it is. Not the whole album, but definately Rapture, Falls Apart, Danse Russe (for some reason), Cold Inside, and House Carpenter. The CD is pretty depressing, but then again Rapture is about his chic killing his kid and blaming it on Jesus. Great song, this one.

  • Dude, the entire album is fucking amazing, so is Vol 2. Hurt has so much more talent than most bands out there.

  • Whoa, I absolutely adore this song, one of the few I already liked after hearing it for the first time ...

    Really touching ...

  • i think he is talking about he lost loved one being with Jesus. who was a carpenter

  • That'd make a lot of sense x3

Someone he loved died I guess and went to heaven maybe? Like to be w/ god or jesus or whatever... Clever xD or I'm just a retard... or bother lol

  • i'm not english, but now i understand :)

  • Can someone explain what "house carpenter" is ?

  • I think it's refering to how his girlfriend or what ever became... a nun.. or died or something and went to be with Jesus who was a carpenter.

  • Or his son who his wife killed.

  • yea that works pretty well too

  • no shit

  • fucking amazing thats all I can ever say

  • this song is just awesome... :'(

  • I LOVE THIS BAND

  • You missed a loooong part of this song -.-' forgotten the part when he says: "I love you so much" ??

  • thats my favorite part. Sometimes I imagine my exwife saying it. I dont care if its wrong I miss her.

  • Fucking awesome

  • Amazing Finishing song! One of best debut albums in years!

  • This song is about his ex who was so 'in love' with God that she couldn't love him (Jay - lead singer).

  • I disagree. I believe it's about the singer losing a loved one...hence the "if you've ever lost a loved one"...Also, "if you're not breathing, why am I?" I doubt Loren would liken being religious to not breathing

  • what's this song about?

  • this song was on the Hardy Show i love it!!

  • i heard this on the hardy show

  • you cut off the end.....the song is like 9 minutes long and at the end, a woman's voice says "I love you so much"

  • This song is fucking awesome! One of their best songs!

  • they were awesome live i saw them at tempe marketplace for free and they were unbelieveable!!!!!!!!!

  • dude you didnt play the whole thing. about a minute n a half to two minutes after the music stops a bit of music plays again. its not much but its one of my favorite parts on the album ^.^

  • I listened to the whole album when my girlfriend broke up with me.

Now I can't listen to Hurt without getting depressed. Love ruined Hurt...

  • Uh yeah.

Kinda have the same problem, but this song makes it all feel better.

    I simply love it.

  • well instead of thinking about it that way think about it her being happier bcuz if you really cared about her wouldnt that be what you want

  • Obviously, in terms of love, you are more selfless than most people and feel no jealousy. Your superhuman qualities are not often found and are rarely expressed other than youtude forums, joke spam emails, and fortune cookies.

  • yeah, usually the people I talk to we don't talk about stuff like this and Its just what i feel on the subject just a diffrent perspective rather then feeling worthless.

  • this is all a violin!! i saw them last night and the singer held MY HAND!!!!! they r awesome!!!
