So I've had this song on my ipod for years and just recently realized there was more music after the long silence... the "I love you so much" at the end is so heartbreaking!
Ties together with Rapture; the idea that God told her to kill the child. Most of the album tells a single story, sometimes it tells pieces of another. All I know is that the rain falling in the background really sets everything else off in this song perfectly, and the little track at the end of the song on the CD is just fucking incredible. If you ever have the chance, BUY the album and listen to it. The man can kill on the violin.
Im pretty sure they didnt write this song for it to be disputed over the meaning, it was meant to listen to, enjoy it, and hopefully touch you in some way. so everyone needs to stop bitching and enjoy this amazing song :)
I thought "House Carpenter" was a symbol, or embodiment of death or something similar, and this song is a variation from the original ballad adapted by HURT, talking about a lost loved one being "married" and "buried" to/with a house carpenter, being dead. OR it could be just lost to him, not dead. I don't know. I think it should be left for individual people to interpret it the way it means to them
There's been a lot of discussion about the meaning of this song - Jesus being a carpenter, marrying people of other religions, etc. Google the traditional lyrics to "House Carpenter" (many versions) and you'll see that the wife of the carpenter ran off with the guy on the ship who loved her. The ship sank killing her and her lover. I think this is an alternative story-line. Here she stays with her house carpenter, and many years later the lover is thinking about his lost love. IMO.
jh,bvkjuaysdgfuioyervbhilqeahjkvbcqulwyidvghqbuklsdyhjiqbfvyuias i think if kratos liked music hed fucking have this at the top of his ipod on replay to kill shit too
@GutShotHomie. I would say you have it backwards. The Jewish religion and majority of Jews do not believe Jesus is their savior, however there are some that do. What you said makes it sound like Jesus is a main staple of the Hebrew (Jewish) religion and that the majority believe Jesus is their savior while a small sect believe that he is not. Unless you are claiming that Hebrews and Jews are not equivalent. In that case I am the one who is confused
agreed on the most passionate song I've heard being this one, checked out the other two that guy mentioned... and well didn't get it, the Floyd one was nice though
@ProtestTheIndie It is a pretty damn good song. But I think the most passionate song I've ever heard was "God Only Knows" by The Beach Boys... or "Echoes" by Pink Floyd.
This will always be my favorite song of all time by them. Alone with the sea and Wars ties in second, then comes Assurance, Shallow, Falls Apart, and Summer's Lost. I freakin' love Hurt.
this song touches base with so many emotions, unless you're an emotionless sack of skin. I've listened to this band on LSD it's as good as Tool or APC any day for an inward spiral of self-conscious thought. Though this band could use a better vocalist, he's almost too nasaly, but that's okay i still like this band.
The vocalist writes every song. C'mon man, listen to him screaming at the end. To sing like that you gotta FEEEEEL that shit. The passion behind the performance can be more important that how it sounds. Tho I think he sounds perfect
I completely agree, just listen to the song That (Such a Thing), he feels every lyrics. The passion for the music is what counts, not how you sound. Not everyone perfect.
I absolutely love this band, this song is amazing. I personally love Tool and APC as it is in most of my internet tags... this song has touched my heart in so many ways
The song is about an ex-girlfriend of the singer/lyricist who was a strong Christian. It's about how she was very pious and she died. It's about never truly being able to be with her because she was married to her religion and she died. This is why it's a bad idea to date or try to be with someone who is so pious that even in death you can never really have them.
lol angel. if you didn't hear what disturbed said. He says that the father passes down the trade, or work, to his son. Since jesus was joseph's son. jesus was a carpenter.
Wow your all retards hes talking about falling in love being used and then hes left for the man she was truly in love with and cheated on him with because he messed up on accident
What do you think he did when he was a young adult? You think he had an easy life where people served him whatever he wanted? I think in his time he had no choice but to work.
Your a fucktard Rottenone, if you dont know what that means either, it means a fucking retard because Jesus was the son of Joseph whos trade was carpentry and obviously in the old days the father passed his craft down to the son. Tell me exactly where in the bible it says that he wasnt, and ill look it up
do you feel though by being offensive on internet? I just told my opinion, and by the way,Tell me exactly where the bible says he was. Even if he learned that craft there are no proofs that he worked as a carpenter =) calm down
I think he lost a person who he loved because of her attachment to Jesus, here called house carpenter. It can have a sense if you realize that he can be see like a SPIRITUAL house carpenter. Hope you get what i mean in my comment.
at first i though maybe it was about Jesus but when i listened to it like 100 times i relized that no he is talking about what he does in most of his songs( the personal fight we all have with in ourselves) well in my opinion
people get this straight- the house carpenter is not jesus. its a house carpenter. the fact that its a house carpenter does not effect the storyline. it could have been a doctor, or a pilot, but house carpenter fits in with the beat better.
People what he ment by house carpenter, is that someone, who will make your life, like you would make a house, from the ground up. He will make you to whatever he or she wants. It doesn't have ANYTHING to do with God or Jesus.
no. jesus clearly existed as there are so many records of him, even caesar wrote about him
but he certainly in my opinion wasnt the son of god, for me he was just a religious leader who had some good points and history has elaborated the rest
yea he wrote about a man who we refer to as jesus (his name was actually yehoshua or joshua in modern terms)
i dont believe he was the son of god or any of that, but clearly a man who is now referred to as jesus did exist and was admired for his philosophy and supposed miracles
@killerphobia There is so much wrong with what you wrote that one can only conclude that you are being dishonest. First of all it would be Yeshua and not "yehoshua". Second, I highly doubt you are old enough that you were brought up Hebrew, because modern day Jews don't call themselves that. Thirdly if you were brought up Jewish or Hebrew you would not have been taught to believe in Jesus as your savior or that he was a positive figure for the Jewish religion.
You wouldn't think this is good music to work out to, but it is. Not the whole album, but definately Rapture, Falls Apart, Danse Russe (for some reason), Cold Inside, and House Carpenter. The CD is pretty depressing, but then again Rapture is about his chic killing his kid and blaming it on Jesus. Great song, this one.

dude you didnt play the whole thing. about a minute n a half to two minutes after the music stops a bit of music plays again. its not much but its one of my favorite parts on the album ^.^
Obviously, in terms of love, you are more selfless than most people and feel no jealousy. Your superhuman qualities are not often found and are rarely expressed other than youtude forums, joke spam emails, and fortune cookies.
yeah, usually the people I talk to we don't talk about stuff like this and Its just what i feel on the subject just a diffrent perspective rather then feeling worthless.
This song touched me harder and longer than a catholic priest on a 12 year old boy. Yep.
