  • Who is here because of Tobuscus lazy vlog

  • This, 4 some reason, reminds me of Christians.

    What does that mean???

  • I was playing a game with some friends and one of the things was listing holiday songs. Well, all of my friends were listing off Christmas songs, which I could have easily done and beat them all, but instead I started listing off Halloween songs. This ofcourse being one of them. :)

  • oh god why reddit

  • my favorite song as a kid!

  • You can only wish that the Big Bopper did a cover of this song then he would have a record.

He would do a cover of this song if you was still alive if he didnt die in 1959.

    This is awesome.

  • The built a hot rod named after this song

  • wasn't he a cast member on the tv series, Rawhide?

  • @COMING4U Yes he was on Rawhide--he was Pete Nolan, the scout./

  • Lol I like short shorts whyd they put those words in this song???????

  • @Cheyenne02001 to make this song funny ::]

  • @Cheyenne02001 Who Wears Short Shorts was a popular rock 'n' roll song back then.

  • This is morbid.

  • A private investigator ? I doubt. IMHO.

  • This MAY have been his his only big hit as Sheb Wooley (which I SERIOUSLY doubt), but her had a number of them under his real name, Ben Colder.

  • A bit different from the bloke in the first 'frames' of High Noon !.

  • hahahahahhahahaah

  • I hate to admit this, but this is from my teen years. That's o.k. I still like it.

  • MAN 123456

  • this guy is a bigot against purple people eaters

  • I'm in the new generation (I'm 16) and I miss this kind of music! pointless, fun, entertaining, and i hate to use this word, but groovy music. Todays "music" makes me want to vomit...

    Anyway, Happy Halloween. :)

  • @zbaybzgurl I think that just proves you're young and you haven't heard enough music from your own generation outside of the radio or tv.

  • @GreekJR2 I listen to music more than i sleep. I listen to local bands, school bands, student writers, pop, country, rock, rap, soul, jazz, a little bit of opera here and there, and i also listen to all of the stacks of records in my basement on a frequent basis. I don't really even watch TV, I'd rather read, play piano, sing, walk, go outside, or listen to music. The best kind of music is on a 45 (and those amazing christmas tunes). Give me an example of today's music that is like this, please.

  • "It's eating purple people" Oh I am safe then :D

  • Is it bad that I had a Flying Purple People Eater toy that danced and sang this song? I kept it as a child and I adored it so much, and I still do. (:

  • @MiniSpasticNinja I'd love to see that.

  • @MiniSpasticNinja I did too!

  • Hahaha if aliens are purple maybe thats why we never see any:) He ate them ^-^

  • NOTHING BEATS THE ORIGINAL!

  • I just heard this last night! I LOVE this song! hahhahahahaha

  • when i was in like kindergarden how we'd sing this song.

  • Sheb Wooley was an actor, songer, songwriter and comedian. He played the scout on Rawhide and a bad guy in High Noon. He also had several comedy records under the name Ben Colder.

  • wow.... i feel old DX i remember listening to this as a kid on one of my moms records

  • The songs about a bad LSD trip

  • I think this song conclusively proves that Americans are insane!

  • Logging in from Wellington, New Zealand. A HUGE hit here in New Zealand. I was eleven when it was released and we all learned all the words real quick. We would sing it all day and and night! Thanks for the vid.

  • Sheb Wooley was also a very good actor. He played one of the killers in the classic western movie High Noon with Gary Cooper.

  • @Brace67 He also had a recurring role as Pete Nolan on the TV western "Rawhide" (better known for Clint Eastwood's big break).

  • What drugs were people taking back then

  • @sackomatik Pregnant moms took the drug Thalydomide and had Flipper, King of the Sea, Babies. That's what the TV show Flipper is about. Mother's Little Helper, the Beatles song. Mothers who ate tuna, tuna nets kill dolphins, and any flesh at all, had Sarah Palin Monster Babies. The serial killer Son of Sam predicted this--Mr. Monster was his signature. He is the grown-up future version of Trig Palin, soon to be a serial killer in your neighborhood. Ah, the good ole days of Flipper Babies.

  • what avery happen to the movie they made out of this song?

  • lol from my childhood~

  • haha the flying purple people eaters is our team name at school! we have these teams thing yea its weird

  • It's a penis!

  • i love this song

  • 51 people must have gotten nighmares from this song

  • hahaha! that's not what I imagined the purple people eater to look like!

  • Whats the hell...?

  • Sheb was one of the Mitchell gang in the movie High Noon

  • WOW! FOR 1958 THIS IS GOOD QUALITY. FUNNY SONG. :)

  • When I was a kid back in the sixties I had this song on an old 45&an old record player with 4 speeds- 78, 45, 33&16 rpm. Does anyone know who made 16 rpm vinyl records?

  • @RonSafreed If you search Youtube for "16 rpm" you'll find quite a few. It's actually 16 and 2/3 RPM just like 33 is really 33 and 1/3 RPM but most people just round.

  • I remember my teacher performing this song, and the class singing along to this at my primary school in year 2 :)

  • I remember this from '80, elementary school assembly. They played this and some other weird one about a kid who said "I don't care" to everything, a cartoon for kids you know? they were singin' and dancing' around in it, then the kid got eaten by a lion. The kid was in the belly of the lion, singin, "I don't care if im the belly of a lion, I just don't care." I will never forget the day I was introduced to murderous one eyed monsters and suicidal children...

  • Yeah, I was born in the wrong era... >.<

  • pw Stupendous!

  • Is it a purple thing that eats people? Or is it a thing that eats purple people?

  • @tysox42 I've asked that question since I first heard the song in 1958....

  • @tysox42 i think it eats purple people lol

  • @tysox42 Well according to the book "Disco Duck: Adventures in Novelty Music", Sheb came up with the song after his son told him the riddle, "What has one eye, one horn, is purple, and eats people?" (I really don't need to tell you the answer). Also, what TV show was this footage from? Ed Sullivan, maybe?

  • @tysox42 it says right in the song he eats purple people.

  • Sheb was in "HIGH NOON"..no shit. He was one of the bad guys.

  • This made me automatically happy.

  • Not everyone that comes up with some little catchy phrase takes drugs..........

  • I'm sorry but dude someone sold you bad weed if you saw that shit

  • this guy was on some good drugs

  • @TheWolfpack666 writting or singing a FUN song dosent mean you take drugs. Back in the day both songwriters AND singers had an imageation and liked / enjoyed GOOD FUN. iT S JUST A CLEAN FUN SONG AND i loveeeeeeeeeeeeeee IT.

  • @rockinrobintweets>>>>>>>>>>Well obviously you've never taken drugs or written a song before....it opens up the pineal gland and thats where dreams, creativity and good music come from! How do you know the writer wasn't high as a sputnik lol when he wrote it.

  • @MrLion616 I dont write songs but I write poetry and I never took drugs. The thing is I have no clue if the guy DID or DIDNT take drugs. I just dont ASUME he did. While I dont know he didnt take drugs I know you dont know that he DID. Oh well, on with the show

  • @rockinrobintweets How would you know that I don't know. Is that not assuming? Well with lyrics like "It was a one-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater One-eyed, one-horned flyin' purple people eater One-eyed, one-horned, flyin' purple people eater Sure looks strange to me".... sounds like an acid-trip to me

PS....maybe a little 4:20 might expand your mind. On with the buzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

  • yay cracked

  • Just heard this on the radio last Saturday; hadn't heard it in years! Sure brought back some memories and a grin on my face!

  • 47 people were purple and got eaten :)

  • Ha Ha a walk down memory lane for certain......

  • Remember the western Rawhide back in the 60's?. Sheb Wooley was the scout. It also stared a very young Clint Eastwood. It came on every friday evening for about six or seven seasons, maybe longer.

  • This guy voiced the Wilhelm Scream!

  • I looked this up after reading 'Christine' & expected it to be a really obscure record. I'm really surprised to see so many views. Good song all the same :-)

  • This is one of the guys Gary Cooper shot in "HIGH NOON"
