@Forrescenta yeah me too, i had never seen this series or anything of FMA before, and i ended up watching brotherhood first. So now i'm mixed between knowing what's gonna happen and seeing how some things tie in together. It's still really good and now one of my favorite animes

I like FMA better than Brotherhood for the fact that you get a better story about Hughes, and the stories for the Hommunculi are good. But other than that, I like Brotherhood better. Both are worth watching. (I hated the ending for FMA though)

@carmelgamer3231 Well, in Fullmetal Alchemist (The first anime) he becomes the philosopher's stone after scar is forced to change alphonse's metal body into a different material to prevent him from blowing up because of Kimberly changing him into a substance that explodes once it oxidizes with the air. He would have slowly exploded if it weren't for scar using himself and the town to turn alphonse into a philosopher's stone.

@carmelgamer3231 Fullmetal Alchemist and fullmetal alchemist brotherhood are different. The Fullmetal alchemist anime started before the manga was far into the plot, so it goes off into a different plot where there is this hundred year old alchemist named Dante that works together with hoenhiem to steal the bodies of people so they can survive.

@carmelgamer3231 In the fullmetal alchemist anime, the homunculi come from failed human transmutations that dante finds and turns into homunculi. Lust, greed, gluttony, and envy are the same. Sloth is Edward and Alphonse's failed transmutation, so sloth is their mother. Wrath is Izumi's failed transmutation, she tried to bring back her dead son. Pride is the fuhrer, kind bradley.

@carmelgamer3231 In the end of fullmetal alchemist, edward ends up in another dimension in the strange land of "London" and Alphonse gets his human body back, but from the point when it was taken. So, 6 year age difference. Oh, i forgot to mention, greed dies early, scar dies, lust works with edward and alphonse for a while but then is killed by wrath. The snake lady plays a larger role, but then also dies.

1) trap the soul in a gem or container(Platheryr just after person dies

2) convert body into a homuculus

3) Enable Soul to jump to homoculus (if homoculus is destroyed soul gos back to platery until a new homuculus can be generated)

Let me guess,they can't make gold permently Either? (secret of gold is it's final decay base of higher element,making it causes it to decay back down into the materials used)

Since I've posted that I've mamaged to watch all 25ish hours of the 2003(Dante) version and the 32ish hours of 2009 (father/magna) version

Ferrying a soul from it's body sticking it in another container or body (#1) is shown to happen at least on 5 occations accross both versions (Al,Barry,Slicer,Dante) with a soul being drawn to it's still living body and new host rejection via lost of cohesion with iinanimate object or deteriation into a lich in a living lost correct "side effects"

Really don't see why #2 , turning the body into a homuculus then attaching it's soul back to it wouldn't workof course you would need a Philosipher stone to fix any "oopsies" in the Dante version while just preserving the body then pinning the soul to it might be a better result in Father version (Basically "undead"...just not as obvious as the "soul dolls")

P.S.

They can't make gold which fits the 3rd law of alchemy..only same composition transmutations are permanent.everything else reverts

@rokuterra I have no idea.... In my opinion Brotherhood is less emotional and more fighting, and FMA has less fighting, more emotional. Lots of different characters, slightly different plot.

@rokuterra the original series began before the manga was very far into its story. Brotherhood is the completion of the plot based on the manga. The beginning of the original series fallows the manga, so you understand about how it all began and other small details. Both are great series but when the original was produced they have no idea of how anything would play out. watch both

@OddlyEmo watch all of brotherhood, I watched it first and loved it, i started watching this and thought what you thought, just for brotherhood being better, but i'm watching this through so that I can get into it and then see what it is truly like. From what i've seen so far, brotherhood is longer (64 episodes compared to 55) and has an overall better action plot, and the original has more emotion because they get you more immersed into the characters and introduce them better

@GlassManJak Fullmetal Alchemist came first. The writers took it in their own direction and it was popular enough. Brotherhood is more of a direct adaptation of the manga. Kind of like a reboot. It doesn't matter which you watch first, really.

They're both good story lines, but in my opinion, Brotherhood is better (the manga's the best, but...) It has a slightly different story, slightly different characters, and a completely different ending. Watch both, or at least read the manga if you're really want to know what the story is about. Brotherhood is the original story; this is the alternate telling.
