  • If there's a thing I like with Arvo Pärt, it's that his music is so profoundly human and intimate that it's not required to believe in anything to be moved by it.

  • This recording is FANTASTIC.

  • Touching...

I have never heard about Arvo Part until 18/12/2009, when i met for first time with his music in Rudolfinum, Prague (CZE). Czech Philharmonic Orchestra have played one of his piece :-)

And this one is something special....again :-)

  • sublime.

  • Sublime. Still my fave composer after 19 years aquaintance with his music.

  • Never heard of this before- I love it! So pretty and calming

  • This work is a musical icon. We are brought into divine mysteries through this music, and that it what elevates it above other kinds of music. I totally agree that a sense of intimacy is powerful with this work. That intimacy allows you to sort of put yourself there on the hill beside Mary as she is mourning for her dying Son.

  • @GandervimWoopsnagle What a wonderful observation. I wish more people would understand this. It would be a better world if they did.

    God bless you.

  • i personally believe that its beautiful that so few people listen to this as it makes it far more personal to the people that do...

  • warchild1942 and ulybaZZa. Don't you think there is a huge contradition in finding Part's work, highly religious as it is, wonderful and sublime but then making misanthropic remarks about humankind in general?

  • Does anybody know the name of the picture from the movie? I can't find it...

  • maybe the most beautiful music I've ever heard.

  • This is heaven...

  • There is something so ephemeral and transcendent about this piece. I can't say enough about Part's works. simply awe-inspiring.

  • So tragic and beautiful, it surpasses mere words.

  • musica ergo sum!

nice of you, to upload these notes alike architecture :-)

    bless you!

  • This is maybe Pärt´s most sincerely opus...i admire it very much :o))

  • Wow such great music! Thank you for showing me Part music I did not know.

  • musica verdaderamente perturbadora... preciosa

  • Arvo Part and Philip Glass are the only two modern composers I have no qualms about.

  • Glass I could do without, but Part and Gorecki are as good as minimalism is ever likely to get.

  • And don't forget Steve Reich. Very difficult music to play (or sing), but a non-musician would never know how much concentration his music requires to perform. A minor error by a single performer in a Reich piece could result in a complete breakdown of the whole work.

Likewise, Part's music also would sound fairly easy to a non-singer, but nothing could be further from the truth!

  • Less than 10000 listeners to this magnificent music, and millions for Paris Hilton's trash. Isn't it disappointing?

  • and almost 3 milion views for Tinchy Stryder Ft. N -Dubz - Number 1.

Yes im am devastated to -)....Number one is pretty coool though.

  • Many are called yet few are chosen.....

  • Yes, it is sickening. Trash music for trash people, who make up 99% of the human race!

  • I think there is an effective correlation between advertising and global exposure. Arvo Pärt can't really compete with the media coverage Paris Hilton has gotten. I don't think it is fair to generalise 99% of the world's population into human trash because of this.

  • Yes, a bit of an exaggeration, I admit.

  • @Cuoin I agree, it's only 98%.

  • @Cuoin Based on the wording of the comment to which you are responding, the statement was that Paris Hilton's music is trash, not necessarily the people listening to it.

  • @Cuoin

on the other hand who is responsible for saying that this piece cannot and/or should not compete with hilton?

perhaps if media giants pushed this, it would obliterate hilton? we could never know because the decisions

made stop something like this from even taking place. so there is a definite human trash component. it just isn,t quite at 99%.

  • @Cuoin He didn't say the world's population was human trash. He said Paris Hilton was trash. LOL

  • @Cuoin I think when we're talking about how much of the world's population like Paris Hilton, it's more like 0.1% rather than 99%. And I'm happy to entertain the notion that 0.1% of the world's population are trash.

  • oh, you are so fully right, but this is also why it is precious, because it is sacred and secret.

  • Aye - Arvo Part is more fanciable, too.

  • @warchild1942 We have found a treasure,- they have not. Shhhhhh...don`t tell them... ;-)

  • A sacred minimalist.

  • Where is Arvo from, Estonia?

  • yes

  • thank you. You have an interesting name.

  • Terrifying. Haunting. Glorious. Contemplative. Majestic.

  • Beyond ...

  • wunderschön!

  • Questa musica è così bella...This music is so beautiful...I have no words for describe the storm of emotions dragging my soul...

  • The Stabat Mater has a special place in my heart since a heard it about 25 years ago.I know it is Mary standing under the cross, but does anyone have an english or german translation?

  • Stabat Mater = Stood the Mother

  • Wikipedia has a bunch of articles about different versions of this piece, and at least one has an English translation.

  • beautiful. i'm conducting a rendition of Stabat Mater for school

  • this is just wonderful!brilliant

  • only amazing

  • inspirational.
