Thanks... I could never find out who these guys were. I always thought they were old skool country. No wonder: I was looking in the wrong place! Who knew they were from my backyard. RIP Billy Cowsill
I got a CD from Ebay. Was $25 bucks. Just put "The Blue Shadows" on the search engine once a week. It'll come up. I'll sell my copy for $50 if you want.
I just heard of this band today on NPR. I live in Austin, TX, love rockabilly, old style country, Americana, etc. I can't believe I never heard of this. This is the best stuff I've heard in years.
Thanks for posting any or all "Cowsill" tunes - My husband has been trying to find music and lyrics for a long time now...thanks again. What great music/vocals <3
Was lucky enough to be working for their record company here in Vancouver when their lp's were released. What a band. Billy and Jeff were put on this earth to sing together and their brief time together was magical. My inside sources tell me that there's a re-release coming soon to commemmorate the 20th anniversary of the release of "On the Floor of Heaven".
Anxiously awaiting my copy now and to hear the new added tracks. A bittersweet addition to the collection when I think of how great they were and how short their career was - nobody sang sweeter than Billy and Jeffrey.
I envy you because you were there when the Blue Shadow LP's were originally released back around 1993.
In my case, I did not discover them until this year! Had I known about them when they played the local clubs in British Columbia, it would have been worth a trip from the midwest in the USA. I'm so upset that I never seen them perform live.
Currently, of all the playlists I have in my YouTube account, the Blue Shadows playlist is the only one I play on a regular basis.
My wife remembered the Cowsills, but she never heard of these guys...which isn't surprising since she's a Yankee. I love Billy's very Hank Senior-esque vocal style. Great stuff
I am crazy about this band's CD, I've been listening to it ever since the first moment I bought it. Heard the first song on the way home from a gig in the middle of the night, and it FLOORED ME!! Rest in peace, Billy, with love!
OH I remember the first time I heard em. It was on Austin City Limits in the 90's. I did not know who they were but I turned it up then told everyone to hush up or get out. I found there CD a few years later at a garage sale paid 3 bucks. well worth it. someone broke into my truck N stole all my CD's. But it was in 2006 Winnipeg that I found it again! I Keep it Real Close!
This is nearly as good as the demo tape version. But, folks who don't know that version are truly missing the best version. I miss seeing Elmar on bass. How I miss Billy. He was the best.
these guy's should hav e been more recognized,a heck of a song, genius',may you rest in peace Mr.William Cowsill, you rock...and will alway's be remembered.
Re. campaign to re-release the Blue Shadows: Sony was distributor, but Bumstead owns the rights. My own calls and emails to their office on this matter have not been returned. Please pressure them! There are also rarities in the can, including two Christmas recordings.
Thank you Jed for getting these clips out and about. Like a handful of other legendary acts, the BSs were plagued by bad timing, too early for Alt Country, but it adds to the wistfulness years later.
This band was so vastly better than almost anything in today's country music scene that it is disgusting. This song on it's own completely wastes Toby Keith's entire song catalogue. Never forget the Blue Shadows.
Thankyou so much for posting this great video of an outstanding song and group. I have been trying to find their cds to buy for years now. Anybody know where I might buy them?
Lucky me...I just managed to score them both! I found "Lucky to Me" on ebay and "On the Floor of Heaven" on Amazon. It may take some time and some searching (and OTFOH won't be cheap), but let me tell you--they are WELL worth it. I waited a while to get these discs and they're amazing. They are in constant rotation at my house! :
I Absolutely love this song thanks for posting it

I remember hearing this song the day it was released and I just had to have the cassette.
I felt the same feeling in my soul as I did when I first heard the Johnny Cash Folsom prison record my grandma had in her collection.
I knew I was hearing something amazing, but that not everyone would be into. It touched me in some way.
I have never been a rockabilly kind of guy, I related to this vibe, this tempo, this kind of harmony.

He was the best and quite uniqe. He had so many tones in his voice. Which is so rare.
