  • im 18 can i buy a rifle with a silencer or only the rifle?

  • I finally got the paperwork through to make my own but it took 4 months. thts just stupid.

  • if it was 1/2 inch by 20 tpi he would have the suppressor off by now.... haha :-p

  • @paintballer700

They are regulated much more in the US by atf they control domestic manufacture of them by numbers regs and tax stamps they cost tons because companies have to pay atf to sell to civilians the increased prices pay there overheads with us gov because the feds want them to be hard to obtain

  • How do you suppress a supersonic round is what I want to know???? I thought silencers only worked on subsonic rounds

  • Supppressed does not mean silent. For roughly 1050 fps and above you will always get a sonic crack. The initial muzzle blast is suppressed by the suppressor.

  • you can "suppress" any sort of round, but once the round travels fast enough, it's not the gun that's loud, it's the bullet.

  • that 3100 it bad ass.

  • Wissh they had distributers for U.S made Suppressors in England! how comes Cans like Surefire are exempt from ITAR?.

  • how to i measure a 1/2 28" size thread?

i want a flashider on my rifle but i dont know if my barrel is large enough

  • Measure it with a thread guage and a caliper or go see your friendly neighborhood machinist to measure it for you.

  • thanks

  • LOL friendly neighbouhood machinist...

Why thats good theres one just down the road I'll just take my rifle in and......

  • FIRST. I want to say is Why the hell are suppressors so expesive?

  • I offer a broad answer to your specific question as follows;

Anytime the government involves itself in any industry, in any way, the cost of doing business increases. As a result of regulation, you the consumer pay the price, literally.

To be blunt, the best economic stimulus the government could ever offer is reduction of its size, lowering of taxes and removal of regulation, all of which when applied either singularly or combined, stifles and encumbers the economy.

    Thanks, John

  • Another answer: since suppressors are hard to acquire and even harder to get rid of in the US, consumers look for high quality and are willing to pay for it. They are essentially "stuck" with the purchase due to poor resale value, so they want something good that will last. That means high-tech designs, exotic materials, etc. Silencers are available in other countries for under $50 - but they are primitive designs and use cheap construction since the lack of regulation makes them "disposable"

  • ditto

  • not exatly true :) the goverment is responsible for the high price in most cases taxing these items way higher then normal

  • Not true. The buyer is responsible for the tax, we're not even talking about that. We're talking about why the silencer itself - pre-tax - is $500 in the US and $50 in New Zealand.

  • @paintballplayer700

    they have it, you don't.

ownership is treated/viewed as a fraternity that not just anyone can get into.

manufacturers set high prices, gov't taxes the shit out of them, leos shirk their federal responsibilities when it comes time for a sign off etc.

there just is nothing magical or mysterious about them.

they're car mufflers, only very small and built better.

i've taken all mine apart and most of them can be made on the 20" lathe after 2 minutes of eyeballing.

  • Excellent points John! Oh, to be a free nation again! Peace.
