I bought the DSI XL last week(traded in my regular DSI at gamestop and got the XL for 99.99) I did not really care for it at first when i bought it..infact for the first couple of days or so i was actually trying to think of a way to get my DSI back..lol However, as i used the XL more and more it became ALOT more enjoyable...flipnote is awesome(comes pre-installed) and the camera is actually considerably better in quality...now i love the XL(or atleast can settle with it).
There are simply too many versions of the DS out there. The design should be perfected and then released, and we should not be having the continuous release of a new version with every new idea.
I agree the DSi should never been made and this released, or, make this with the gba slot, and more features. I never got a DSi and probably never will, many of my DS games have a feature they if you have a certain GBA game in the slot, you get a power-up, or unlock a new quest, special items. If this had the GBA slot, Id think - yeah maybe ill upgrade from my 2 original DSs that ones scratched, the other some buttons are breaking
I think the big N was just trying to copy psp by making their screens larger when in actuality this fails when it comes to 2 screens. PSP kept it oldschool and not all touchy.
they dont do xl in japan because in japanese, they would have to say "ekusu eru", which isnt a common term in their laguage. to say LL in their language, you say "eru eru" ( the japs dont have the "L" sound, and their closest letter is the "r" sound, wih a kind of roll), which i a more common term to them.

More than you think. But you are sort of implying that the DSi XL is being marketed just to people who are older, which is not true. It's being marketed to people who want a bigger handheld. Plus, it's meant to be an alternative to the DSi.
But the DSi Xl is supposed to be an alternative to the DSi, which is probably why there's not that much of a change but besides the size and the preloaded games and browser it comes with. It might be considered an "epic failure" to you but there are people out there that do want a bigger hand held. It might be a similar system, but some people are going to go for the DSi and some for the DSi XL.
You forgot a very simple concept, huge screens are just awesome. They are roughly TWICE the size of DSi screens and as a result kick the crap out of them. It has nothing to do with old people and bad vision. Let me guess, you believe the reason big screen HDTVs sell is for old people with bad vision? LOL!

As for the DSi, that was to compeate the with the PSP's newest model.

In Europe they released new colors for the DSi (Not XL)
. I was excited to get it in Red, so i bought it
And whaddya know? Nintendo announced a DAY after the releases of the new colors, that there's gonna be a DSi XL. That's just horrible!

HA, HA, HA. Another poor review from an unhappy customer , bashing the DSI XL because they bought the DSI and now they feel betrayed by Nintendo. I'm and old gamer, in my 30's and pre order the DSI XL because suits my needs better, Nintendo is not putting a gun on you to buy it. Maybe is not for you but is right for me! And the graphics look a lot better than the regular DSI. The day I went to pre order mine was a huge line of teens a parents with small kids pre ordering it as well XD

People fail to realize that the DSi XL is basically an alternative rather than the next upgrade. It's supposed to be for people who want/need a bigger screen, bigger console, and want more battery life. Plus, if they don't want one then they don't have to buy none. But, there are people out there that do one one. I'm one of them---even though I do think the DSi XL looks brilliant.
I just don't need another handheld. =)

@judy554 Well, this actually was made for teens, not adults. xD For students as this was gone to be a dicitionary for different language classes. The whole elderly sale point was just a way for them to sale it here.
I love this, 210$ Who cares? The DSlite and regular DSi will probably go down in price with this baby around... hello new, cheaper DSlite for me... or I can wait for the 3DS and wait for a huge drop in price.

This is what you should do: If you already have a normal DSi, don't get this! If you have the Nintendo DS Lite or DS, then buy this if you are going to upgrade! It is that simple.

it has a bigger battery by 1 hour than the dsi and also potty mouth! i actually think that that this dsi xl is betetr than the dsi. they are both very good systems yes but i think the xl is betetr. i also think it is a little bit better in graphics just because of a bigger screen . i saw some of my friends playing it and i was playing the older one and it seemed betetr graphics. also the oldest system costs 130 dollars.... wtf why would i pay 130 for the oldest system if the lite costs the same.

i do think it was a waste it looks ugly no offence and ugly colors especially the red. we just got a new one last spring and before that in japan in autum. it was just horrible no offence

It is obviously not a waste (of money) to people who want one. Not everyone has a DSi and some people have no problem buying a new handheld when it comes out. It all boils down to preferences and what the said person wants.

Nintendo made a new dsi xl for the money.
Is just for the money. They know that if they make a new device like just changing in this case the screen size, they can now sell that same product at a higher price. People will get in confusion like how you said, and they are going to think the dsi xl is better so thell buy the dsi xl instead. Idk if this made sence but that's really why the dsi xl came out, to sell it at a higher price

I think people accept there to be a new and shiny upgrade or update each year---something that Apple tends to do with their iPhones, iPods, Macs, etc.
Nintendo is smart. They know a lot of people, young and old, want bigger screens. The fact that it has more battery life is a plus. It's also good for people who have eye sight issues---which isn't just something that happens with old people as you said.

havent anyone noticed in 2004 ds was made then 2 years later ds lite in 2006 and then another 2 years later a dsi 2008 and now 2 years later dsi XL! every 2 years they make a newer version of a ds.i got my dsi just last year and now this new one WTF!?!?!?! but w/e dsi XL is not portable so its made for home (1 area purpose) basicaly not cary around anywere u go like dsi.

They released the DSi not long ago? Yeah, but the XL isn't superceding the DSi, it's exactly the same system just bigger. A redesign which appeals to a different demographic to your own. Nintendo aren't trying to force people to upgrade, they're just bringing another variant to market.
Then you argue it should have new features, but that would render the DSi outdated, fragmenting the market
Bottom line, what I suggest is this; STFU, enjoy your DSi and let thousands of other people enjoy the XL

if you don't like it, don't buy it. it's that simple. Its about choice. Its not an upgrade. If you prefer gaming at home for the whole family to enjoy then buy this. If you want something smaller with personal colours get ds/dsi. No one has a gun to head making you buy one!

this is the most stupidest video I saw about a nintendo ds on youtube. First of all I own an old windows 3.1 laptop from 19 somethin and I love it. In britain you get it for £150 and the DSi normal one is £139.99 for just £10 id buy it and really i doubt theyre going to make seperate games for the DSi XL what can the XL do the normal one can't so really i dont think theres anything to complain about apart from it being too soon.

You act as if this is replacing the DSi and is the main new unit the same way the DSLite replaced the original DS.
You are WRONG. The DSi XL is just an ALTERNATIVE for a different audience, the older audience that has a harder time to play on a smaller system.
This isn't a replacement. So why argue? Why complain? its just an Alt OPTION.
