I don't think Corbin is terrible... I just don't find him terribly engaging. He appeared to be struggling to get into the character throughout the whole thing. I saw him perform as Usnavi in Spring 2010, and I actually slept through the 2nd quarter. However, I did find him to be a very dedicated, hard worker; he works to hit the notes, to do everything by the book. Lin stole the stage because, despite him not being a singer by trade, his stage presence completely grasped the audience.

Some of his approaches to the character might be questionable as far as people's opinions but no one can put him down on this song. He did great and his connection with Olga was amazing...so its perfect. When I saw that scene with them it was adorable. GREAT :D

I agree, I feel casting Corbin as Usnavi is just another way to attract the younger HSM addicted younger crowd to flock to the show just to see him even if he doesn't fit the role.. sorry folks, but he has no emotion in any of his scenes, he looks awkward and just seems like he's spewing out lines rather than acting in this show..

I agree. I don't know why that is. He techincally should fit visually if you are looking at age (I think). Maybe the lighting? Lol.

He'll never be Lin; he may not be as good as Lin; but I think he's doing just fine as Usnavi. Obviously Lin approves of Corbin as well.

high school musical has ruined yet another of my favorite things. damn you Corbin. You will never be even comparable to Lin. (it is my opinion and i do not feel a need to start a flame war. i respect people who feel differently but I think he will never be as good as Lin)

As much as I want to like him, I just don't feel like he has the presence for Usnavi. He's really not bad, just... I don't think this role is really the best to start in musical theatre with. It'll be interesting to see where he goes from here...

Be honest! Despite his diversity, Corbins rendition makes it feel like an anglicized Sesame Street skit. Barry Manilow would have been an improvement.

If Lin-Manuel thinks it's the right choice, I don't doubt him. I mean, he is the creator and originator of the role... He wouldn't sell us short! He definitely seems a bit younger than what I'm used to for the show, but you can tell he's developed the character! I've NEVER been one to enjoy High School Musical, but I am excited to see what new things he brings to In The Heights. It looks promising :)
