we see this lady every year at Fairford and Southport what a machine she is well worth keeping this take off at Fairford we seen it was like watching a weepy film please keep up the good work to keep her flying
no, that record is now held by the B52 during the Gulf War. USA to Iraq to UK if I recall correctly. However, they cheated and had forward positioned tankers.... :p For Black Buck the Vulcan and all the Victors (over a dozen of them!) all left from Ascension and transferred fuel forward between themselves as they went, ending up with one Victor left to refuel on the way back.
this plane kicks ass and i think it still holds the record for the longest ever bombing run 8.000 miles from the u.k to port stanley on the falklands. i bet the argis shit them selfs
The vulcan is truly amazing!! We saw it for the 2nd time yesterday at Leuchars and it really was a MUST see part of the show... everyone stopped to look up, silence fell over the crowd.... fab!

I've watched a couple of planestv videos and the editing in both is extremely frustrating. "Producing" a video doesn't mean you have to "produce" it every seven seconds or less. I got car sick with all those cuts and zooms.
Thats the best take-off i've seen from XH558! If she can do that, then surely at some speed we could see a role? Would it be worth the risk? What risk? She could do it with ease!
A role? Like low tech, low stealth, long range bomber? Or maybe it could be used in the 'show of force' role against the Taliban... oh you mean ROLL! Worth the risk? Ha ha, er no.
Nice! But...at what cost? Is it worth TWO MILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY to fly it? Vulcan Operating Co told Lottery that airshow fees would pay all costs for sustained operations. Now, we're finding out that's not true. Sorry, guys, but TWO MILLION POUNDS ANNUALLY was never gonna come from airshow fees. A blind man couldda seen that before you started. I seem to recall the RAF retired it because, aside from being old, it was also EXPENSIVE TO OPERATE. VulcantotheHANGAR!
Worth it? Ofcourse it is. The majority of money which has been put into it is public money anyway, which would indicate quite clearly that the public want to see it fly. But i tell you what, just because you have a very obvious grudge against it with your rant and added CAPS we'll just retire it to a hangar, just for you, hows about that. All that hard work and all that investment, all the peope who have come from all over the world to see it again, lets forget them, and just focus on you.
watching the Vulcan fly on the saturday and sunday brought back so many happy memories of watching the Vulcan fly at the HMS daedalus Airshows back in the 80's when people talk about the vulcan effect, its real, when she throttled up it brought a lump to my throat.
i was there too got rather sunburnt got a pretty good photo(at least by my amatuer standards :P ) of 558 as they flew past the needles running in for her display..:) the noise she makes as she openned the throttles up sent a shiver down my spine..:)
to the guy who missed riat unlucky it was a great show and a great time when the vulcan and B52 went down the runway with eachother and this is from a kid going to see the red arrows at southport in a couple of weeks and the vulcans gonna be there yey :-)
Wish it'd done that on saturday! .. oh well.. maybe see it again sometime.. Bill Perrins one of the crew is my neighbour! apparently he flew them in the falklands, also gets to fly a spitfire and trains pilots of virgin atlantic
forgot to say.. MASSIVE thanks to planes tv. Glad you caught an epic moment for us to relive time and time again. Great day, great plane, sorry. EPIC plane!
i honestly thought he was going to roll it, i was stood there going nuts. Weather was terrible all day but it didnt matter soon as you heard it throttle up, nothing else mattered!

Now it looks even more British... when wet.
But it looks slow!
Yes, but not slow enough to stay on the ground.
Oh, then it must be big.
Yes.
Climbs like a fighter, and, damn!

Was it raining?
Amazing and something the BBMF should be helping to keep in the air!
It brought a lump to my throat and I found myself clapping and cheering as it took to the skies.
MONEY WELL SPENT!

is it a strategic bomber?
stratosjoebar 2 years ago
Yes. They carried the UK's nuclear deterrant in the 1980s, before we were forced to give up droppable nuclear weapons under some treaty or other.
That's the last Vulcan that's still airworthy.
Acrimonius1408 2 years ago
No, only a Nuclear deterrent in the 50's, 60's and early 70's.
