That's a solid engine. Looks like you have a great setup for fishing. I get 24mph with my 20 hp 1989 johnson pushing a 15 foot aluminum. With the carb upgrade to a 35 hp im getting 32 mph
Damn, sounds so much like our 28 spl pos motor, at idle. My Johnson wont rev up in gear. I have a vid of it if you want to see it. But, I still think OMC made the best! And BRP does now.
Thanks - The rod holders are mounted on a 1X6 and are 1 1/4" PVC. I drilled the holes for the screws all the way through & then drilled a bigger hole on the outside to accommodate the screw head and driver bit - worked great & haven't had one rod "pop" out yet. On a previous one I had built - I had rod holders @ 45 degrees on the ends for trolling. I'd like to see yours when it's done......
