  • Two things: Saw Root Boy at none other than the MARBLE BAR in the basement of the old Congress Hotel in Baltimore - and then the comment Washingtron! The first time I heard that song I almost crashed the car I was laughing so hard. "Tron" was truly the word for the 80s in so many ways!

  • Oh man do I remember HFS!! I remember that with Damion- not getting the new call letters down, lol! So I was jamming to Root Boy at work today and everyone was like WTF is THAT?!?!! I'm in Montana now, so they have NO clue about Root Boy or HFS or anything like that! You should've seen the faces when I next played James Brown 'Soulful Christmas'- LOL!!

  • ah the old ole days in the home town.

  • @nauort23: The song you're thinking of is "Washingtron" by Tru Fax & the Insaniacs. I used to be a waitron in the lounge of the Hiltron. Now I work for my senatron and I live in Arlingtron...

  • @seapumpkin

    Great song!

You're making me pine for the old days.

  • What the FUCK is this?

  • When WHFS ruled!!! Before the celebs and trendoids overran the nation's capital. Does anyone else remember a DC hit about "WashingTRON/ArlingTRON" from the 80s?

  • @nauort23 I can remember the day HFS suddenly became a spanish speaking station. Although, after Damion left, it was never the same.

  • @richandemily

Do you remember in the real early 80s when HFS briefly changed its call letters. Poor Damion kept losing the battle to remember the right letters, and by the time he got it straight, they were back to HFS. Oh, God, what a great station that was. At that time (early 80s) HFS was not only the main doorway to alternative music but also where so much local talent emerged: Bad Brains, Slickee Boys, Minor Threat, Tru Fax, Urban Verbs, Insect Surfers.

  • Root boy forever!!!! Got to see him twice! Both times were excellant!!

  • So if you're still shoppin', with money to spend,

how 'bout this album, by ROOT BOY SLIM!!!!

  • Goddam this should replace ' White Christmas' !!

  • On the flip side of this 45 was "Too Much Jawbone." It started, "Too Much Jawbone, Woman, You Run Your Big Mouth!" Epic ....

  • I'm originally from D.C. -- hence the handle -- and I saw Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band three times. Once at the Cellar Door in Georgetown, once at the Ritchie Coliseum at the University of Maryland, and finally at Montgomery College. As Root Boy told us, you'd "light it, ignite it," and "Boogie 'Til Ya Puke." His shows were so much fun. Band could jam, when Root was backstage gettin' wasted. I saw Root once at a Bullets game, he told me, "Hey man, drink a big beer. Get loaded!" OK.

  • Too bad there's now "Christmas at Target" or "Christmas at Wal-Mart".

  • I have this 45. One of my all time favorites. Saw them in Albany a bunch of times, a life changing experience.

  • The Root pounding on my bro's (CJ or SeaJay) door in TP, demanding 'Toot for the Root!' Driving like a maniac from Conn&M to Piney&Beach in 15 min to party with the Root and Lounge Lizard. The Root walkin 'round callin for Brooke [Shields]! Hope all this took y'all down memory lane with me! Now go make the mood ring counter at K-Mart glow!

  • Remember the flyer for Root's first European tour? Root's sillouette, waving good-bye, 'So long and I'll see ya later.' LMFAO! Wherever the Root played, I was there! As far as I'm concerned, the music--and fun--stopped the day he passed.

  • Psyche Deli (Acoustics made 'Express Train' sound awesome!); The Bayou (We got tossed cause my bro was puffin a one-hitter!); The Ontario (The Root pushed down the aisle in a shopping cart, '747' painted on his forehead, white 'stuff' all 'round his nose. Wore my 'ROOT' glasses to that one!); The Stardust (The crowd rushed the stage. I ended up face-down at the Rattlesnake's feet! (God, did I have the H-O-T-S for him!). Tore-up my right shin (a/k/a 'Root Leg'). Had SO much fun, didn't notice.

  • lmao

  • Santa got a dose in San Jose!

  • Root used to stop by the house where I lived. He had lived there years before and got his name from living in the root celler, where the laundry room was when I lived there. He was very well educated and still got his alumni mail at the house. He had a "III" after his name.

  • @tangarooo -- Wow! Didn't know 'bout the root cellar. Was this in TP? Thanks for the info. Did you know my bro Charlie (a/k/a CJ or SeaJay)? Yea, the Root's name was Foster MacKenzie III. The Root went to Yale on a scholarship, and was a member of the Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity, as was the future Geo. W. Bush.

  • Never heard this before! LOL

  • Haha thanks for putting up this video. I remeber my dad playing this at christmas!

And i looked for it last year but could not find it anywhere :( but now its finally up!

  • ah yes...RBS... the 8X10 club in Baltimore and the Hollywood Palace on Rte 40 West (rest its soul!!!)

  • Was at 8x10 many times. And the Hollywood Palace. Forgot all about that place. And I may have seen RBS at Latin Casino. He was an icon around these parts.

  • aww geez

  • Why put comments like this for something like this? If you don't choose to shop at a store like that, that is your choice. I don't care about your opinion. Guess what that more expensive grament you buy is made in the same sweat shop. The difference is it has a designer tag attached to it. Did you realize this is supposed to be humorous?

  • lol

  • & The Psychedelly too!!!!

    I love this song!!

  • Damn! The Psyche-deli!!! The best. Root and the Rootettes at the Varsity Grill! That big show at the Warner Theater!! Man that takes me back...you broke my mood-ring.

    ROOT! ROOT! ROOT!

  • Saw him several times at the back room there everybody yelling ROOT ROOT ROOT always a good time brings back alot of memories foggey as they are and the lovely Root Ets.

  • Those guys videotaped several of the back room shows (from the balconey)...wonder where those tapes are now?

Damn good times. Wish I could remember them better! We were all sooooooo wasted.

  • Put a Quarter in the juke, and give a listen to the Root. I am so glad we had WHFS back in the 70s and early 80s.

  • @JerseyBach So glad to see a WHFS reference. Was this song only in the DC area?

  • @JerseyBach Amen!!

  • Thanks so much for this one...my all time fave.

  • Good old Root Boy! Didja know that he and George W. were schoolmates in kollejj? Root's bumper stickers read "Root Boy Slim owes me money."

  • Good Love Root Boy Slim!!! Thanks for the song.

Zoom is now available at the Root Boy Slim web site.

It's fully re-mastered and has an additional bonus song!

I've seen Root Boy Slim live (when he was alive) and it is a concert I'll never forget. Especially when my bud "Cic" got a tee shirt from Root Boy for doing the best rendition of The GAtor!! It was at the ?RedBrick House? in Rockville Maryland early '80s.

    Too cool.

  • my friend Bruce and I once did The Gator on stage with the miestro himself, a charished memory. He is sorely missed but, his spirit lives on

  • My dad was his drinking buddy, and RBS passed out drunk in my dad's house

  • Had some friends go to his apartment in Takoma Park once woke him first thing he did was lick some snow seals left on the table from the night before.

  • That's FUNNY!!! Sex Ray

  • God rest ye merry Root Boy Slim, Loved ya
