They were taking it easy in this early round race. Normally they'd go a good deal faster. Also, there was a tail wind for most races at the WCCCs. The wind was so strong at one point during the 2000m races that they required crews to only use 18 paddlers to prevent additional swampings.

Amazing, the lowest stroke rate (56 for the majority of the race) i've seen while still managing a 2:01 over 500m
