every indivdual in this world is special and very special . doesnt matter what color , religion or creed . give respect and get respect and ignore ignorants and think that how special you are to know and differentiate between wisdom and ignorance .
Please, why is she still crying about it?! All us Asians have been bullied for our ethnicity as children, but why cry about it as an adult? Be strong, be proud and fuck those ignorant haters that try to push you down.
In High School, everybody's looking for a reason to look down on someone else;iif it isn't race,it's appearance,or shyness,or class or any weakness the wolves sense..gotta let it go....
Jen.. you are really beautiful. It really hurts to see that even though we have entered the 21st century where lots of barriers have been broken be it in terms of race, sex, creed, we have still got lot to go. Sometimes, watching movies about Alien attack on earth gives me some hope. why ? maybe ( or surely ) in that case we maybe united as earth people and forget about all prejudices. This may seem far fetched but sometimes drastic events are better than slow process of understanding each other.
Jen, you are a gentle-spirited, and a very beautiful woman, facing bad memories of such cruelty(children can be so cruel) and maybe even the underlying questioin: Did my birth mother love me? What about my father? I believe they must have loved you dearly, but for some unknown reason couldn't keep you or take care of you. However, they put you in a safe place where she could be found quickly. May the Lord bless you and heal you from all of those inner wounds, and give you His shalom!
You're so beautiful. I have a very mixed heritage. Everyone in my family looks white or passed for Italian. I have almond shaped eyes and as little girl, I had long straight black hair like my Native American ancestors. When I was little, I hated it. I wanted to be blond & blue eyed. There were two very mean little girls, who would look at me and pull their eyes and then say "ching chang chung". I had really long dark hair. They would tell me that "black hair is ugly". You are beautiful.
That kind of bullying or (or racism as some may put) doesn't happen only among transracial families or adopted children. It happens anywhere where there is a physical minority individual among others that may be ignorant, or may be jealous, or may just be afraid. Would be nice if people would just be nice to each other, despite religion, cultures, physical appearances, handicaps, etc
Jen its not okay for people to be mean and rude But i want to know that its because some people have had it all and have not seen enought of the real world. the only trouble they have seen is how to be perfect. Im Mexican and i sometimes use the word "chinita" But i want you to know that this word to me, its not to offend an asian person; its more to admire how beautiful, nice and intelleget an asian R! the education system should teach young children humility and extreme divirsity. bye :)
I wonder if they called you names because you are bueatiful and they felt threatened. Cruel people are everywhere no matter how old you are there just seems to be those people who just hate nice, bueatiful women. And you believed them...............everyday see how bueatiful you are and asians in my world are so respected. always ladies.......poised, smart, femine........think you gotta see the real you.........
Stupid persons´mother is always pregnant....in a hundred year something like talking about race will be a nonsense..unless people is talking on pet breeds...
my best friend was adopted and she went through everything you did THANK YOU FOR TEARING OFF THE VEIL that everything is HUNKY DORY when you are a transracial adoptee and that all these asian babies should be SO GRATEFUL and feel SO PRIVILEGED to have been "chosen" by their adoptive parents
100% TRUE! I was adopted into a bi racial family but I still experienced racism from my own people and others who did not share my heritage. Being the only mexican in my family is hard.
Jen, dad thinks you're beautiful. Not every child has that. Some have the cigarette burn, the spiral fracture of the fibula, the linear skull fracture, and how many more x-ray films of such am I going to keep seeing in my mind? I'll trade you Jen, I'll take the racial epithet abuse and you can have the pictures in your mind. Deal? So there's worse things Jen. Let us not shut down when there's still so much for us to give. As hurt as we might be, others are hurting more and so we can help.
Kids in school can just be mean period. You have to expect it and be ready for it by knowing, valuing, and loving yourself. Adversity is character building. Don't spend too much time feeling sorry for yourself. Have your cry, then get up and do something positive to help someone else feel good about themselves. Show everyone that you are valuable because you know how to care and love when everyone else around you is hating and cruel. Your adversity could be your chance to change the world.
Stardusk, that was a very insensitive comment to leave and it only reinforces my belief that people who think like you should not be allowed to have children at all.
I'm half filipno and white and adopted by white people i never understood why they called me gook or say stuff like want to eat some dog or all those ridiculous names when i was young
interesting..my husband is a Koren adoptee. He was raised in the Bay Area (San Jose), where there are many asians. The strange thing is... he seems to be racist against caucasians. I don't know what to make of it....
@gjean08 Perhaps his parents showed racism toward Asians and he resents them for it. Perhaps living in a system of racism white supremacy where he saw Asians mistreated and negatively stereotyped by white people? Perhaps looking in the mirror, he just could buy the fantasy that he was white and realized that just like the other Asians, he was an OTHER in the white world.
I don't know the subject, I just followed a kind remark on one of the subject I was on, but had to tell people who may be concerned by the subject that you have to read the most beautiful book about this subject that can be read : "Digging to America" from the wonderful Anne Tyler. It's a pure moment of love.
And hey you who wants to be common ?
Adolescence is a time when we need to be like the others, but being kind of special, that's the touch. ;)
Thank you Jen for your honesty. I'm sure your father means best when he says you were too "reserved" to speak up for yourself. There's a REASON. Being the only Asian in a sea of White kids at school who push you down and make it feel inferior, it's hard to know how to react because there IS NO SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR ASIAN-AMERICANS in these communities. We Asian-Americans need to drop the ego-filled, "it doesn't faze me" attitude and truly seek out to acknowledge our mutual experiences. Thanks Jen!
Thank you Jen for being honest about your experiences. I'm sure your father means best when he says that you were too "reserved" to speak up for yourself. He just doesn't understand what it feels like to be the only Asian in a sea of White kids at school who push you down and make you feel inferior. You simply don't know how to react. Are they joking? Are they threatening? Are they doing it to everyone? We Asian-Americans must support each other and I applaud your courage.
I'm an adopted Korean. I'm ok with being different. But I do know how much it hurts when people are being racist. But, I have pride with being Korean/asian/American. If people are racist, I just know that they are just making a fool out of themselves and that they are wrong.
Hey, sounds a bit like me, being asian myself in the UK! What u need to do is start hanging around people that are similar to your own race! Learn the an asian language and culture! Its only now that i begin to understand chinese culture that i begin to be proud of who i am! When i was younger i didnt know what i was, and there was plenty of white people putting me down all the time! Its seems to me your having self esteem issue!
Adopted or not, all asian children hear that kind of mocking. I guess it is much harder to overcome when you feel isolated from everyone else and don't think anyone else understands.
OMG...this woman and I had similar childhood abuse while growing up. I'm a Korean adoptee and I went through very similar issues as this woman. I feel her pain.
@aodoco I and 10's of millions of other non-Asian men agree with you bro.No one and I do mean no one in my small community would ever consider other wise,Asian folks of a good heart are as excepted here as anyone, just don't be an a-hole to other people.Do that and no problem, you will be liked, that is the truth of it.
that is so horrible... I am pale white with freckles and was teased and tormented tons, noone wanted to include me in games, always picked last... kids can be so cruel and any target will do, especially if the kid being targeted is more shy or quiet. FYI to the lady in this video...YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL!!!
