Jen.. you are really beautiful. It really hurts to see that even though we have entered the 21st century where lots of barriers have been broken be it in terms of race,sex,creed, we have still got lot to go. Sometimes, watching movies about Alien attack on earth gives me some hope. why ? maybe ( or surely ) in that case we maybe united as earth people and forget about all prejudices. This may seem far fetched but sometimes drastic events are better than slow process of understanding each other.

You're so beautiful. I have a very mixed heritage. Everyone in my family looks white or passed for Italian. I have almond shaped eyes and as little girl, I had long straight black hair like my Native American ancestors.When I was little, I hated it. I wanted to be blond & blue eyed. There were two very mean little girls, who would look at me and pull their eyes and then say "ching chang chung". I had really long dark hair.They would tell me that "black hair is ugly". You are beautiful.

That kind of bullying or (or racism as some may put) doesn't happen only among transracial families or adopted children. It happens anywhere where there is a physical minority individual among others that may be ignorant, or may be jealous, or may just be afraid. Would be nice if people would just be nice to each other, despite religion, cultures, physical appearances, handicaps, etc

100% TRUE! I was adopted into a bi racial family but I still experienced racism from my own people and others who did not share my heritage. Being the only mexican in my family is hard.

Kids in school can just be mean period. You have to expect it and be ready for it by knowing, valuing,and loving yourself. Adversity is character building. Don't spend too much time feeling sorry for yourself. Have your cry, then get up and do something positive to help someone else feel good about themselves. Show everyone that you are valuable because you know how to care and love when everyone else around you is hating and cruel. Your adversity could be your chance to change the world.

interesting..my husband is a Koren adoptee. He was raised in the Bay Area (San Jose), where there are many asians. The strange thing is... he seems to be racist against caucasians. I don't know what to make of it....

@gjean08 Perhaps his parents showed racism toward Asians and he resents them for it. Perhaps living in a system of racism white supremacy where he saw Asians mistreated and negatively stereotyped by white people? Perhaps looking in the mirror, he just could buy the fantasy that he was white and realized that just like the other Asians, he was an OTHER in the white world.

I don't know the subject, I just followed a kind remark on one of the subject I was on, but had to tell people who may be concerned by the subject that you have to read the most beautiful book about this subject that can be read : "Digging to America" from the wonderful Anne Tyler. It's a pure moment of love.

Being the only Asian in a sea of White kids at school who push you down and make it feel inferior, it's hard to know how to react because there IS NO SUPPORT SYSTEM FOR ASIAN-AMERICANS in these communities. We Asian-Americans need to drop the ego-filled, "it doesn't faze me" attitude and truly seek out to acknowledge our mutual experiences. Thanks Jen!

I'm an adopted Korean. I'm ok with being different. But I do know how much it hurts when people are being racist. But, I have pride with being Korean/asian/American. If people are racist, I just know that they are just making a fool out of themselves and that they are wrong.

Hey, sounds a bit like me, being asian myself in the UK! What u need to do is start hanging around people that are similar to your own race! Learn the an asian language and culture! Its only now that i begin to understand chinese culture that i begin to be proud of who i am! When i was younger i didnt know what i was, and there was plenty of white people putting me down all the time! Its seems to me your having self esteem issue!

that is so horrible... I am pale white with freckles and was teased and tormented tons, noone wanted to include me in games, always picked last... kids can be so cruel and any target will do, especially if the kid being targeted is more shy or quiet.
