  • Of course I like the dances, etc. but I think tv influenced me a lot. I have this most likely delusional image of Korea that you see in korean dramas. Everyone is so well behaved, well mannered, they look good..they have everything and if one character is bad..well, most of the time he/she becomes 'good' during the series. And idols? They are perfect. They make you think that Koreans just have it all :D But that's what I like :D for me it's my flawless world where I hide from reality :)

  • I go to other Countries, Actually I see The Popularity of K-POP group, K-Rock.. and Their dramas..

because of their good Looks, song , Dance and ALL..

K-POP is a complete package.. actually their voice when they talk in dramas is like a "CUTE-VOICE" and seen in their good looks.. Not only in ASIA they were popular of course in some country.. ^^

  • I like kpop becoz it's good I love shinee becoz it's good XD

  • Amigo doesn't sound like that other song XD

  • Just a funny thing about me that I'm going to throw in here: I don't much like pop and hip hop, or rapping, or dance... OK so a LOT of mainstream music. Buuuuut when it comes to Kpop, I do. WTF. I admit, this is stupid. But GENUINELY my mental taste buds can't stand the likes of Gaga (though that might be because she herself is repellent) but laps up Korean pop.

Conclusion: Humans are bloody weird sometimes.

  • omg amigo and the theme song are sooooooooo similar

  • funny, it's sound like you are the one who racism. double eyelids to be like americans?? did you go to school?? double eyelids is not only for americans or european, did you ever seen Indonesian, Arabian, Malaysian, Singaporean etc?? they're asian and majority are double eyelids. I like kpop is not because I'm asian, I like kpop because in my opinion it's more atractive and more refreshing than american pop which full of bands and solo singers like other countries.

  • I have to agree with you on this, and thanks for bringing this up. My understanding of this backward racism is merely because of the marketing strategy. Marketing specifically targets certain age group/ethnicity/country/ WHATEVER buying power, and as for now the major buying power for asian pop is asian people and asian americans. Therefore, it is natural to those marketing strategists and business people to think that makes sense to have these consumers feel good about themselves.

  • However, of course that's not what the actual asian pop artists would desire to or even think of. They are the mere artists(whether they are real artists or just pop culture robots, we can decide in other videos ;) ). So thanks for bringing this issue up! but let's not get too angry or personal on this. We know, when things become marketized, ugliness of various degrees pops up here and there.

  • Comment removed

  • I have to disagree with you on that one. A lot of Asians have double eyelids without surgery. People get double eyelid surgery to make their eyes look bigger. Why the heck does double eyelids= American? Can I then accuse you of being racist cause you're associating single eyelids with Asian?

  • oh my gosh. the btr and shinee thing blew my mind.

  • The problem is other countries misunderstand multiculturalism as it applies to America. They honestly think we know nothing about other cultures. They forget that we aren't just one race like their countries. We don't even need to leave our country to experience some of the best the world has to offer and they really don't understand that at all. Sure they come here on vacation and see the touristy sights, but that isn't America. We get a bad rap for being racist and ignorant, hypocrisy? Yeah.

  • @TeHj0keR

Nope. Americans aren't stupid at all - they actually managed to point their country in the world map. They know a lot about Eastern culture other than rice and egg rolls. And no, they aren't racists. Many Asian and native men are stars in Hollywood and a black man also became president after more than 200 brief years of independence. And what? The best the world has to offer? Again Hollywood? No thanks.

  • Hmm don't really agree with the 'if you like one kinda thing you must like something else that sounds similar'

Personally I like Kpop/Jpop/Spanishpop/Finnishmetal... I love exploring all kinds of music. Korean happens to be one of my favourites because of three reasons. The bands etc change, one minute they are doing pop the next rock etc. The videos are fun and the dancing is awesome to watch. Korean music hardly ever talks about drugs, skanky ass women/men and sex. it's refreshing.

  • @KiraGarza I find Spanish pop really cool and vibrant the language tends to flow really well in certain songs fast up beat and all round mostly entertaining!

  • "Get out of here round eye" I literally laughed out loud x'D

  • I got into KPop because I've always found Asian guys attractive, way before I'd even heard of SHINee, Big Bang, DBSK, etc. KPop, to me, was more expressive without hinging on decadence or relying on vices as a central theme for their songs. In essence, it feels cleaner than American pop. If there is racism, that's a shame since I think our societies are seeing racism as something that belongs in the past to exist in extremely miniscule amounts in our future. I love KPop.

  • I dont want asian pop to go western cuz then they are gonna be like all american. i switched to kpop cuz the american pop was getting lame. the meanings were repetitive like about smoking weed and banging chicks in his $400,000,000 car. and as for like lady gaga and such they just sound weird and use to much voice effects.

  • @yoesop agree a part from the "like lady gaga and such they just sound weird and use to much voice effects" Korean music uses LOTS of effects. Awesomely of course ^^

  • @yoesop HAHA, korean pop uses voice effects too. *shrug* if they can keep their style, then by all means, I want to say 'I like 2ne1' and have people say, 'eh, not so sure I like their new single' or whatever their opinions are.

  • @knotbox oh ok

  • I'm mostly japanese but I look rly Hawaiian cuz I am and I live in Hawaii. I'm more into Asian contents rather than American. And I am sorta "anti-western". I like kpop because to me theyre a lot more talented and their lyrics are more meaningful than the mainstream American pop music that either talks about sex, partying, or alcohol/drugs. I don't hate every single artist but I'm still stuck in a pre-teen state of mind that spazzes over the Jonas brothers, big time rush, and David archuleta; I

  • Okay, so I'm white and I grew up in a country town, so like, I wasn't really used to seeing Asians very often. In my society, whites feels VERY separated from Asians just because they looked and spoke differently. I wish it weren't true, but it's just the way it is. For me, kpop took getting used to. But I love it, maybe because of the hot guys, addictive music or maybe just because it's NOT POPULAR here so I was just attracted to it. It's only after getting into kpop that my tastes have changed

  • all your videos are HILARIOUS and HONEST, here's my points:

-I like K pop because it's really catchy and even though I don't understand what they're saying, for some reason I still like it.

-k pop is REALLY HOT , and I will be the first to admit, one of the perks of K pop videos is the ridiculously hot guys

    - I like Rihanna and Miley(despite the hate they get), not so much big time rush, the way they got started doesn't sit well with me

-I'd rather keep it a sub-culture American pop is suffering

  • i guess i prefer shinee to big time rush cuz i really hate that lame childish show that big time rush has and i think the guys on shinee have better vocals, dance skills and looks ;). the songs might sound the same but the bands themselves sound different to me. then again i'm not much od a shinee fan. im more of a suju fan myself. :)

  • i want kpop to be popular in the Us but i also kinda want it to be me and my friends personal music that we can agree upon unlike the pop music in the Us which everyone knws and has a preference for excluding other non-pop genes of music..its like "i wanna help u become more popular! but i cant! T.T "

btw i love k-pop because it sounds wonderful and in a way unique that moves me emotionally

  • what's up with all the racism... :( ?? can't we just accept that before anything we are all just people!? I love black, white and asian people! :O

  • So much ignorance and racism in these comments. It's pretty sad how much it shows about so many people.

  • 2. Racism and being racist are NOT exclusive to just white people. Racism is everywhere and Asians aren't the only victims - stop putting yourself/your ethnicity on a pedestal. You think only Asians are being discriminated against? Sorry, not true. You think your fav Kpop songs are unique and superior than American music? Plenty of those songs are bought from American and European songwriters, no shit.

Seriously, calm down and think rationally before sprouting up nonsense.

  • 1. It's somewhat of a conflict with me. I want my friends and others to know about my favourite Kpop group (for them to like the group) but at the same time I think it would put me off if they sing in English. Does that mean I like them simply because they're Korean? I would say partly, yes.

    --

And why are people getting so defensive? Fact, Asians have been discriminated against in Western countries (I've had my share). Also fact, Caucasians have been discriminated against.

  • As for the whole channel thing I don't think it's racism just on the facts that you gave. Now i have seen some stuff on other korean base channels, that will leave you to question is it racism? or culture insensitive? And if they want to spread their culture and music to other countries they need to be more aware. Not to say that other countries don't do it too, but just if you want people from around the world to take notice of you the last thing you want to do is offend them.

  • it probably remain sub-culture, not for the fact that they speak another language or they're a different race. But for the fact is their the trend right now. I think for those k-pop groups who can keep up with in the American music industry will make a name for themselves. I think people forgetting that a lot of foreign music had their time to shine one way other another. (Note i do listen to some k-pop songs, but I think people are blowing it way out of proportion at some points.)

  • I think it should stay a sub-culture. Popular in South Korea, and to the others Americans (like myself) and many others to enjoy. I just don't think many Americans can get past the fact that Asians are singing it, or Asians are "cool", by whatever standards they are using. I am Native American, and I can see that there is still lots of anamosity towards Asians/Asian Americans, but not all Americans are like that. Sure, a lot of us can be rude, but there are still civilized people out there.

  • screw you bitch you are a typical two face white bitch!

  • america pop is shite!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • even if asian pop is good enough to go global you white folks wont accept it anyways!!!!!!!!!! you racist bastards!!!!!

  • dont americans have nose jobs to look more asian? not only americans have double eye lids, blacks and even asians have natural double eye lids. fuck you white people.

  • whoa... I knew BTR's theme song sounded familiar, but I couldn't point out what song it sounded like.

  • i love my japanese music. and im black and people call me weird. but i really dont even care. people judge too much. they dont understand so they deny and hate it. but i love it because the lyrics are meaningful, the music is great, and they really put their all into it. so they end up being my idols and i watch their tv too, even if i cant understand a single word.

  • Dude, when I was in 8th grade a friend was talking about bubble tea to the other Asian girls. I heard it, and I was all "Bubble tea? Hwaa?" BUT she dismissed me by saying, "It's an Asian thing." This is the same chick who called Cambodia her country and said she wasn't American (she was born here, don't even question it). Also, that was back when they spelled it "AZN."

But jeez, what, oh my non-Asian mind couldn't possibly comprehend the esoterica that is bubble tea!? Just explain it!

  • I like it WHEN it's good. With even changing trends in Japan, Korea and China, I find that I am not always impressed with the products they put out. When its good, I am in love. When its bad, I reject it

  • i going to say, i would love to see Korean artists (or all nationality) in america main stream or music scene in general, cause if look at lady gaga, her album's are released everywhere world wide, Korea, Japan, Germany, ect. but america doesn't have other musician from the around the world (not making them sing in english), there is sooo much good music in this world but only a few us know.

  • @nikku506 you are wrong ... there is charice from philippines..

  • asian love american okey?????? i'm an asian n i love american n of course asian too...n of course i know all my asian friend love america music industry,

america have their own speciality n asian have their own too.

By me i will never want to compare between asian and american

maybe u hate asian becoz there must be a reason n i can understand that, but i think its a normal thing about people ..but i understand that different people different idea n different hatred but i love AMERICA :D

  • so are you afraid Asian gonna get better than you guys? that's called JEALOUSY and it come from INSECURTITY OR being RACIST. YOU WANT ASIAN TO BE SUB CULUTRE OR SUB- HUMAN. Your point on the video are so RACIST and STUPID. Kpop is from KOREA. They do the English channel because it for Korean American who doesnt speak Korean(not for American. If you like it you can watch). It like BET in America. It's not for White. It's mainly for Black audiences. If you dont like it then join the KKK.

  • @funkeemon You're such an idiot.

  • @081294100 Thank you.

  • @funkeemon I think you understood her point... the MNET video does say some things, but hey! they're all true. Asians are smarter and make more money. I love Korean Pop, not because it's just "Asian" but because it is GOOD, GREAT even. Something that American music no longer is. I'm Native American and am offended by Old Westerns and stuff calling us 'Savages.' BET is... a bit racist at best. They don't tell you you CAN'T watch it, but it's mainly for Blacks. That's just the way it is.

  • MNET has a youtube channel were they do live streams for people from different countries. so i think they are being more open to international fans now. the kpop industry has started to notice their national fandoms. That is why they now have official youtube channels or facebooks.

  • mmmmm i really like this subject...so they showed a white girl and im pretty sure white people are beging to be excepted, a lot of korean celebrities like white actresses or actors and Big Bang likes using white girls...not trying to offend anyone, its not just koreans and its not every artist but my biggest question is...what about black people? Even if it does expand will they only cater to people with white skin? NOT SAYING ASAINS ARE RASCIT but I'm just stating facts

  • I dont get it. You were saying all that bs, and all the sudden u mock a asian accent.

    4:23

  • Okay, okay, I was kinda agreeing with you here and there until I heard that person say "Don't asian people get eye surgery to look more American.."

Whoa. What? To look more American? WTF?

They only do it to make their eyes look bigger, it's not to be 'American.'

And I now think you're overreacting.

SM Entertainment is always ripping things off and being little turds so I'm not really surprised, SHINee deserves better.

  • I'm a Shawol and I'm always watching Nickelodeon, incluiding BTR. but i NEVER noticed that.

Maybe thats the -subliminal- reason I like watching BTR...?

but I dont really like american music, just asian -thats includs Japan, not just Korea-

I dont even like Latin music, and Im latina....

    americanmusicdoesnthavehiptrustingandliptouching...justsaying >_>

  • with the Big TIme Rush and AMIGO similarity. I never actually realised their similarity until you pointed it out. and the funny thing is.... I like both Big Time Rush and SHINee VERY MUCH! yet I failed to even realize the similarity. *istupid* And I still enjoy both of those songs very much.

  • continued from below: How come all the major artists out there like SNSD weren't even nominated or even present at the Awards last year or for the past 2 years? Work on you before you work on something over here.

  • I've recently caught the KPop bug, I honestly like the songs because I LIKE THE MUSIC! Even if it was sung in English, I WOULD STILL LIKE IT. MNet, needs to get over themselves, I appreciate the fact that they want an Asian-American fanbase in America, but what about me? I'm African-American. What do I get to watch? BET. Ass shaking and all. Not any of the stuff I like. I like JPop, too. What now? MNet has failed as a leader of Korean Ent, What happened to the artists at the awards show, Mnet?

  • @LaughAway2010

Yeah i feel the same exact way...in a way i feel like we are exculded, and i feel we are not allowed to watch or listen to asian music...good point

  • Ah and if you don't think American media caters to the majority race... you need to start looking at it from a minority person's POV.

  • I don't agree with all of your comments or arguments BUT I really agree with the fact that this all needs to be discussed. It's how I feel about the race issue in general, so I'm glad you brought it up to begin with.

  • I like kpop because I like listening to a different language. I also listen to Jpop, Jrock, Tpop, cpop, and German music. Its also because I like Asian culture.

  • I live in Maine, and I absolutely love Kpop and Asians. But I don't like Kpop because it's Asian, I like it because it's different. I can listen to Kpop and feel classy, if that makes sense. Kpop isn't all about sex, drugs and money, like I've experienced a lot in American music. The songs don't have to be dirty to be enjoyed or popular, unlike most music here. So, I guess what I'm saying is that I like Kpop for it's 'cleanliness' and 'enjoyableness,' not because of where it comes from.

  • I'm spanish and i watch mnet, even though i can only get it for a few hours, sometimes it does seem as though there only trying to get asain americans but im pretty sure there trying to reach out to non asians as well, and just like i dont like jb, miley, kesha ect, i dont like a lot of kpop groups too, like shinee, superjunior, bblock ect (no offence to those who like them)

  • so is what everyone is saying whites are superior some how? How is it only white people are the cause for racism? No I have not been called chink or nigger I have been called white devil or cracker have been bullied for my race just as well as any I have been told that because I am white it somehow made me a whore and a drug abuser I have had an asian girl tell me to stick to nascar and country music it is stupid to be bullied because of something you were born into. every one deals with racism

  • @tobelovedbyu Every One

  • AND YES I WOULD LOVE FOR ASIAN ENTERTAINERS TO BECOME MORE POPULAR IN AMERICA I THINK ITS IMPORTANT!

  • wft you are wierd

  • Hi Everyone, I respect Lindsay but I'm a host of of one of Mnet's shows called BPM and I have to say I understand where she's coming from, but she doesn't know our network to insinuate that our network is ANTI-westerners. That is completely false. To write something like: "Asian pop = Anti-Westerners? Will MNET America hurt or help?" is sensational. We have a multicultural staff here of people of many ethnic groups. We play hip hop, rock, jazz, r & b, funk, soul, dance music, AND Kpop.

  • At Mnet, we are very open minded when it comes to our guests and we WANT non Asian guest to come on our show. Some of our past guests include MANN (song with 50 cent), Hines Ward, Ian Edwards (African American Comedian), and Johnny Sanchez (Latino Comedian) among many other Asian guests. Different Cultures bring beauty to our society. On that note, I hope everyone can enjoy our show on Mnet, every day at 4pm, 7pm, 10pm, and 1am... BPM - Beats Per Mnet! for more info > mnet . c o m

  • I fucking knew it, I KNEW!! Thats why those lyrics came up when i watched that one time. And lol on the wide eye joke.

  • YOU. ARE. AWESOME!

    Really... i think ur awesome.

  • Also, @kjohnnyt, I'm really, really sorry you had to put up with that your whole life. Nobody deserves to have to go through that bullshit. Though what you've been through probably has painted white people in a really bad light, please believe me when I say that they aren't all racist assholes.

  • I love your videos and want to thank you for talking about the subjects that you do. I adore all Asian music and I'm very fascinated with the cultural clash that happens when East meets West. That being said, I think you couldn't be more right about what you said in the end of your video. People get angry and defensive when "racism" appears in a conversation, and I think it's a good idea to not only be honest with each other, but reassure that we come from a place of respect, not hate.

  • There is so much truth in this video. And really, in all your videos. Another awesome point made by linzer dinzer! :D I'm another of the white, american Kpop fans, so this really does make a solid point.

P.S. Is it sad I never noticed the connection between SHINee and BTR?

  • B1A4 sounds a bit like Big Time Rush I think...

  • I was raised liking Asian shit, starting with anime and exposure to its cultures xD from 10/11, that's when I started liking Asian music. I'm not Asian but I was raised with j-pop, j-rock, k-pop, k-rock, c-pop, c-rock, etc. I'm a Puerto Rican and Polish mix and I speak Japanese... Japanese and Korean people I've talked to said I would fit the "beauty standards" or whatever. Naturally, I'm going to like Asian shit since I was raised with it haha

  • people prefer asian pop more because of the fancy kung fu dance gimicks Lindz

  • i hate when asians refer to americans the mean white... wtf...hello black, mexican, native amerians... we live here to bitch.... lol

  • The other reason why kpop is more popular than any other form of asian entertainment for asian north americans is, first of all, there are a lack of high quality jpop content on youtube, for example arashi, their newest mv isnt even available here. i know this very well because my friend is an arashi fan. Other than jpop and kpop, rest of asian entertainment isnt as good except maybe taiwan. Also if you study modern asian history, japan has killed a lot of asians for us to not like their singers.

  • for me personally I like kpop because of the content it offers, do you know how many variety shows they have for our idols? those shows are NOT the same in america. Also does america have live music programs like Music Bank, Music Core and Inkigayo? NO, because the states is such a large country it's impossible to gather all the singers together for a live show every week.

  • how would asian entertainment blend in if no other ethnicity/culture has done so before? it will remain a sub culture for sure.

  • this is craziness, racism towards whites by asian? you are fucking kidding me right? i was born in the US, grew up in the US, and still live in the US. My whole fucking life i was picked on by you whites for being asian. I fought a lot of kids in my life time because of this racism, and i mean a lot. Proud to say i won every fight. I am now 29 and to this day i still get tons of racist remarks. what the fuck do you know what it feels like to be called a chink or a nigger? you are white.

  • @kjohnnyt I think you missed the point of this video. It's about a concept a lot more complex than namecalling and bullying.

  • @linzerdinzertv this is bullshit!!!! bitch!!!! the only reason why we listen to asian pop is not only we have the best melody in the world, we are not represented in the western media, how the fuck do u know how good our music is when u dont know the words, music is about lyrics too. our canton style pop is unique, and where did drum n bass come from? inspired from the chinese lion dance drum beats not that goldie would admit it. your video is the most offensive video ever, calling the kettle

  • @kjohnnyt dude honestly, what she is saying is true, shes not saying MNET is raciest shes just saying that Mnet's approach on it was kinda racism which is true i mean if i went to korea right now they would all think that i smoke, do drugs, am in a gang, and love money. they stereotype just as much as any other race and as weird as this may sound its kinda normal, i mean ever race does this. my friend heejin told me that its really like that in korea and she lives there!

  • @kjohnnyt

Yeah thats America for you :/ and its a sad reality but shes not trying to make asains seem rascit and all people no matter what color or race get picked on even if your too skinny or too big or to tall you can get picked on for anything, so im sure shes been called some things too...i know how it feels im half black/mexican ive been called probably every name in the book, you make it seem that whites are superior race everybody should be equal, and everybody gets picked on...

  • @RingoinWonderLand well the majority is ignorant whites, sadly b/c they've never seen anyone else but a white person. what they dont realize is there are more my people in this world than anyone so they can fuck off. being picked on b/c of your race is horrible, and white people dont really know what its like is all im saying. And when it does happen to them they're all up at arms and super defensive about it and make stupid videos like this. this white bitch can go fuck off.

  • @kjohnnyt Whites pic on all other ethnicities.

  • first thing asians dnt have eye surgery cuz they want to look american.. if u have such racism then why not asians be racist towards u? and i dnt think american or europeans the only ppl who hv big eyes..

im chinese and i want to have a surgery but i really wnt to maintain my asian features cuz its pretty. and yes i dnt think kpop or asian pop in general r for non asians cuz it sounds different and looks different and its actually not spoken in eng so idnt think american shit would understand..

  • Honestly I initially got into Kpop because of all the BL fan service.

  • @OkAnneLynn First of all what she said is not racist, it's a fact. There are some asians cutting their eyes.

  • Mnet "A new English language Tv next work Asian Americans can call their own"

As a South Asian I don't see how I could call this channel "my own" when they are only representing 1/4 of Asia.

Its annoying when people use the word "Asian", 99% of the time are only referring to people of mongoloid decent. West, Central and South Asians are all caucasian but i don't see Mnet representing them?

  • @smellyface101 too true dun see indians & lankans calling it our own

  • Excellent videos. =) Subscribed!

  • I like it cuz its different, catchy, fun, and in the case of girl groups they are usually cute, plus i generally think the American music industry is going to shit.

  • but i honestly think the problem is that a lot of americans are so narrowminded in their choice of music.. some look down on something because they cant understand it.

  • omg youre from dallas? me too! :D

  • k-pop is pure garbage they are basiclly copying western music

  • @evilmickey100 PREACH. MNET, MTV. BET, or whatever.... they're all sell-outs.

  • @OkAnneLynn Asians do still get surgery on their eyes.

That's not racist, that's a fact. Its got something to do with the double eyelids, it's like how western people get eye lifts to look younger.

Some do it to look western, others do it to feel better about themselves, that's only a guess, but you can look at websites that tell you what the surgery entails, but by saying Asian people get this surgery is not racist.

  • Gripping lol Why are you going to take a generalization, and pout that her questions are relevant lets be honest half of you if your not a born korean or other asian are watching thier music because you where bumped into ANIME&MANGA and can't help but squeal about asians when they walk pass you ....>_< Ive heard it all "oooh your so pretty,,,it's the asian." lol the wanting to be in their group face it.

  • Gripping lol Why are you going to take a generalization, and pout that her questions are relevant lets be hones half of you if your not a born korean or other asian are watching thier music because you where bumped into ANIME&MANGA and can't help but squeal about asians when they walk pass you ....>_< Ive heard it all "oooh your so pretty,,,it's the asian." lol the wanting to be in their group face it.

  • The fact is the only way a asian artist can make it in the United States, is if they perform their songs in english. It's sad but, true. I don't care if it's X Japan, Morning Musume, Luna Sea, or Hangry & Angry ... Who ever. It's too bad, I like these acts because their music is great. ( I don't understand the lyrics, but then I can't understand Pearl Jam's lyrics either.)

  • @greything2010 they wont even make it even if they sing in english, thats how racists whites and blacks are towards asains are.

  • @HDsharp Thats so sad... What's worse, is your also right !

  • @greything2010 I hate white and black people, we,ve done nothing to them, in fact we havent done anything to anyone really but these people seem to be so anti asian, which is completely unwarranted, If I had the chance I would nuke the lot of them, Idont care if I die, thats how much I hate them.

  • Arrgh! My messages got cut off. Sorry if they're incomplete!

  • Also, I recognize Asians fight to be recognized in western culture. In America there is a deep rooted history of racism that people gave their lives for in order to abolish. There is of course racism residue that we're battling today in 2011. I think as other cultures keep trying and don't give up or discouraged, great things can happen. Unfortunately, there will be a struggle. I'm too old to like pop music period, bit I've recently been exposed to Rain (Bi) and hope he can crossover or at leas

  • I have a lot to say. I think the problem with Asian pop crossing over has a lot to do with gender stereotypes and systematic & internal racism. I think kpop artists should not conform to US market, but the images and style promoted in the Asian market will be interpreted negatively (feminine or even worse, gay). In terms of racism,Also, most Asian countries are homogenous. They have not had to or have not been taught to coexist with other cultures (represented in significant numbers, therefore

  • american music is good but most of the time their song is sex and drugs

  • I like some kpop and jpop and i also like contemporary. What i would prefer to see coming to american pop or any music genera for that matter is an innocence that has been lost for so long. it's very depressing to turn to a radio station and hear things that are down right nasty it happens on television as well so i made up a word to describe this and that's barfalicius.

  • i love kpop for both of those reasons, the songs are really catchy and their different yet similar to american pop, and i also like it because the guys/girls are really cute and have amazing personalities! (: I kind of want to kpop to come to america .. so more people would love them and become fans but in a way I don't because they might get more hate or be forced to become all macho and sing about sex and drugs and it might corrupt their innocence (not to be racist or anything, im white too)

  • woahhhhh you seriously just blew my mind....

I never realized it, but I like Kpop music because it's simply different...I used to like some of BTR when they started out. Then when they started getting more popular, I didn't like them.

I guess I just like being different than everyone else and I like to feel different. So I think I would love for Kpop artists to come perform here...but I don't think I would want them marketed so that everyone knows them >.<

  • I like KPOP becuz when Im listening to it in America, no one knows who/what song/artist Im listening to so it kinda makes me feel different like I have this deep dark secret that Im hiding not even my closest friends know that I listen to KPOP 24/7. I like it the way it is becuz if Asian entertainers were to come to America, I would feel like my secret just got exposed to the whole nation. So NO I DO NOT WANT ASIAN ENTERTAINERS TO BE POPULAR IN THE U.S ! Hope everything made sense . KPOP FTW!

  • @l3eautifulMusic96 & Im pretty suree MANY OTHER KPOP/JPOP/CPOP fans feel the same way

  • overall i could say that i do listen to mostly kpop but i do enjoy listening to jpop, french, some spanish and def still listen to some american

and i love indie music now too so i really like all types of music but thing is i guess i still like boy bands" that arre much better done in korea than in the us plus us music do all talk about the same thing ie, money, sex, love in the club...

i came to jpop then kpop because i was bored of american english music tho i still like it

  • After all the comments on racism I was expecting something less innocent and questioning to come from country Mary.

  • i'm sorry but BTR all r ugly

  • The reason I stopped listening to English music is because it all just sounds the same and blends together except when you get the more out there people like Lady GaGa whom I really like (because she's different) But thats not entirely why. I like the fact Koreans don't rap about getting drunk and f*cking this and f*ucking that- also, there is variety- on our radio stations i hear the same damn song 5-6 time a day; annoying as hell. so, i just stopped listening to Eng, and listened to K-pop.

  • You ruined my life comparing SHINee and Big Time Rush. Wait...never mind BTR does not have the fabulous Key, so all is good~!

  • Asian-Americans have been getting shit one in westren society for a while. Doing like most Black entertainers started out in the 50's supporting each other when doors where still close.i have to disagree with you b/c I recently just saw a GDTOP 'High High" had lots of white ppl one token Black male (w-Inds did this also)Big Bang has flew out to Los Vegas film comeback MV. Will it be multiracial & not the "one token Black" have no idea than again K-pop isn't politically correct

  • heys, i think mnet is ridiculous lah, bottom line:P but as an asian, i just realised that a teeeny weeeny part of me wants kpop to remain asian, not so that non asians cant enjoy it, but maybe because i dont want kpop and western pop to eventually become one big global genre. Im just afraid asian pop may lose its spark when it has even more western influence than what it has now. same way, western pop mite lose its touch under the influence of kpop :P

  • LOL at everyone complaining at the camera girl, when I was reading the comments I expected her to say it in a really racist way but then realised the commenters over exaggerated like...a lot

  • you never see , other races than asians in kpop groups, and alot of asian americans say that they cant break true in america and such , because there asians, i Think let mixed groups also get a change in kpop and asian groups in western county;s

  • I listen to Asian pop because I like the music, lyrics, MVs.

  • ...but this could also be a political science student's strange personal rambling. Either way, I enjoy your insightful videos and wanted to say keep up the good work! Vancouver supports ya!

  • Hey I'm new to your videos and I really like them, they offer a very open and frank perspective on Asian culture that doesn't get discussed often, which as a person of Asian descent myself, I very much enjoy. In this case, I think that the subtly implied Asian superiority complex could have come from the intense national pride that Koreans and other Asian ethnicities have after decades of lagging behind Western cultures and finally gaining the momentum to cross over

  • Love your vids btw :-) keep em comin! But I see the Big Time Rush & SHINee thing how I see British and American TV. A lot the US shows based on British originals (Coupling, The I.T. Crowd, SKINS, ect ect) failed because they didn't have that British charm and sensibility. I love K-pop, but you won't catch me rocking out to the likes BTR, Miley, Beiber or Jonas. It's just works better for me the way Korea presents it. LOL I hope that makes sense. Sometimes my brain works in loops.

  • @MGTOB86 i agree with you 100%

  • i also think that they use asian american bcuz they probaly presume that the other races will like.... discriminate i guess and not watch bcuz

  • nice review and sorry for how much ppl misunderstand u , u probaly get tired of it

  • @linzerdinzertv OMG!!! make a big time rush review!!!! or GD&T.O.P knock out review!! :D PLEASE!? i love ur reviews dude!! they make so much sense to me!!! and im 13... :/

  • Well, Asians have actually been open to Western entertainment for decades, so it is valid for them to complain about the West not being open to them.

  • I like Big Time rush AND SHINee. :] I also love LinzerDinzer and CountryMary. LOL New FAN GUYS. Thanks to Jimbominbo. :D

  • @OkAnneLynn I don't think Mary is Racist. She made a comment, that started with "Don't they,", which can be interpreted as; she heard from elsewhere or wasn't exactly sure. By the way, you're wrong to conclude that she is a racist by a comment that particularly affects you. Just because you don't like it, does not mean that you can come to a conclusion that she is 'racist'. Also, her comment would be a Generalization, not racism.

  • I do think it's a bit anti-non-Asian sometimes. Starting with the labels, some labels actually won't accept anyone who isn't Asian as an example. Some people were saying BET does similar things for a mostly African audience but BET shows people who aren't black as opposed to MNET who really sometimes comes off like non-Asians don't have any interest in K-pop. I think it's a bigger problem then MNET though because with labels discriminating (even within Asian races) how can it get better?

  • it's hot because it's asian... that's the right answer haha

  • (continued) visiting Asia and whatever or cos we look to it to relate to them since I feel they kind of give Asians the geeky image in media in the u.s. In a way it makes sense because where else do non Asians find k-pop? but they should work on promoting it here to kick that geeky Asian image like hey! us Asians can be sexy AND cool! but I will admit some k-pop is kind of embarrassing to have on my ipod cos it's sometimes childish...which I kinda like haha

  • Now that I think about it yes. I was at a wonder girls/2pm concert in America this past june and JYP made an appearance and said how we have no Asian entertainers here in the U.S and how is Asians need to break the mold he said sure we have a few asian actors but no music stars here but he wasn't mentioning anything of non Asians true almost everyone in the place was asians barely any none asian I saw no more than 5. But I guess they assume only Asians are aware of k-pop cos of family or

  • seems like you too're being ethnocentric in white superiority feeling threatened by asians. As much as youre offended ethnocentric is a strong word hidden under yer rug and theirs as well. You quickly realize you are not asian but maybe you should also realize that asians feel that they are not white and can never be one.You feel threatened by their exclusiveness as they admit its their intention to target Asian Americans not global. They love who they are that which you are accusing anti-american.

  • I don't think you quite understand. MNet is not trying to exclude non-Asians, however, the channel itself is aimed at Asian Americans, much like BET is aimed at African Americans. It is true, MNet is aimed towards Asians, they are trying to appeal to the Asian audience. This doesn't mean that non-Asians are not welcomed or whatever to watch it, it's just the audience they are aiming for.

  • @cherrylyrics5 With all due respect, I don't think you quite understand. I'm not making an assertion of what MNET's intentions are, I'm addressing how their marketing might be interpreted. I never in this video claimed that MNET indeed wanted to exclude westerners, I'm saying that their approach may cause that happen, whether intended or not.

  • @linzerdinzertv I haven't seen this promo but the 'best educated' and 'highest income' seems like show of patriotism and pride. I understand you took it as an exclusion of the Caucasian audience but how do you show pride without excluding a few people. I also agree with the previous comment that the channel is targeted more for the Asian-american audience. Also US shows tend to show Asian characters as either a sex symbol (f) or as a stereotypical side character to usually make Asian jokes later.

  • @ginsengjin I understand your good intentions of wanting to break down cultural barriers but you appeared very one sided in the video which is why people feel the need to comment to present the other side. It's just new to you as a Caucasian but Asians have been feeling this subtle exclusion by western culture for many many years!. so it feels weird when we see a caucasian complaining about the things we put up with.

  • @linzerdinzertv sorry about going around commenting on ur videos so much but i think that white people are very much welcomed into asian society than those with darker skin

i'm a japanese sri lankan, i love kpop, i made a cover of gara gara go by big bang, they called me a wanna be korean, the song was japanese bt even tho i mentioned that, they called me indian, and wanna be korean, the ppl who sed this was 1) a chinese 2) an american 3) a canadian

    what about that :(

  • @linzerdinzertv Hey Lindsey. You've definitely thought about this, but as a korean dude, I think you're giving the kpop industry too much credit. Kpop music isn't actively looking to "crossover" solely based on the content. The primary market for MNET and Shinee (it's phonetically SHIN - Knee by the way...not SHINE-EE. Potayto, PoTAHto) are the ASIAN BOX of consumers in the U.S. It's a homogenous culture. They're making music other koreans will like.

  • @nighttrain7404 Having western non-asian people like the music is a nice "secondary" result, but not the primary result. The main audience is for asians in the U.S.The video's nuances that you have issues(best education, income) with are taken out of context. Just like people might take your "get out of here ROUNDEYE" ching chong bit out of context and consider it racist, when you're just being satirical. Nice of you to try and want to "Break down the wall" here, but it doesn't apply here.

  • @nighttrain7404 Also..if this issue is so near and dear to your heart, I will be looking forward to your videos about Latin Teleivision and UNIVISION where there is a LOT of ethnocentric marketing that is in the box. Let me know when you post those as well.

  • @nighttrain7404 So in conclusion..on the surface..you feel "excluded.' Welcome to being treated like a minority. Doesn't feel good does it? WHOA..I took it there! Your video piece appeared "noble" until your friend slid in the "eye surgery" comment, and your "round eye" rant both muddied your message. Through the clean layer, is an underlying satirical racist retort that is piggy backing on a kpop phenomenon to further your need for attention through blogging and self promotion. .

  • Truth be told, K-pop is manufactured and influenced $ by North American or Euro songs. For them to alienate westerners is rather amusing they haven't grasped

universal thinking yet. On the other hand they do offer quirky / odd K-pop rendition

of western pop that might appeal to some.

  • I love Mary, Mary is an awesome cameraman..err woman. Yeah! Linzy mentioned that Mary isn't a K-Pop fan which is why I don't get offended whenever Mary randomly speaks about something. XD;; haha.

I haven't seen the MNet promo video.. but it does make me think if MNet is stuck to promoting only to Asian-Americans or are they really trying to share Asian entertainment to everyone. Eh. If you enjoy it, love it. Race ain't no thang.

  • what's the station in dallas? i kinda want to check it out?

  • honestly, subculture pls... k-entertainment appeals 2 me more, bcoz it has the same cultural values that i am instilled with (i'm chinese). I enjoy it because it makes me feel more comfortable. I think western values, when it comes to pop entertainment, focuses more on the physical,(how hot you are, how sexy you are....) but i really enjoy them for their talent and music. I'm open minded, but conserved too, thats y i think the conserved essence in asian culture should be kept the way it is. :)

  • I think we shouldn't like publicize asian music, because I really don't want all the douche bags in my class saying "ohmigod, have you seen The Gaze... zay teh's new release? Yeah that singer dude is so HOT!" While I respond, "Oh have you listened to any of their old stuff? It's really great, and Reita and Ruki..." While they sit there with a dazed lost look on their face.

  • Hahaha I'm Korean-American, and although there are some people accusing your friend of being racist for that comment about eye-surgery, I actually agree. I may be making too much of a general statement, but of all the Koreans I know, including myself, we have a tendency to want to look more Caucasian, hence the popularity of bigger eyes, pale skin, and longer noses. Korean features usually don't lean that way, hence the popularity of plastic surgery.

  • Some people here took hang on exact wording too much, while you have to get the meaning. I understand what you are talking about, as one of the people I know said that white guy is fine in Korea (he has school girls calling Brad Pitt to him LOL), but tend to dash aside from white females. Don't know why .. And also I remember watching Thai drama, the girl said after she was thought to had relation with a foreigner "I am not that low"?? So who is racist there..

  • I like K-Pop cuz it's not corrupted (as in the mb and lyrics are not all about sex and drugs) not cu it's Korean. That'd be weird.... Anyways, I also like some American songs that are decent or have hot guys like Adam lambert:) haha, he's gay tho..... But sexy. Btw, I love how you always end your videos "And make sure you [insert funny fact here]"

    :)

  • Honestly.....I am not Asian but I love American pop culture. Honestly I can listen to hat I want and i can do what I want. If I was Asian I would be so happy my thoughts would be wow...my culture is so amazing that people from other countries like it. Maybe they sound stop appealing to the american community also. Anyway i'm not trying to sound like an ass but it needed to be said.

  • Americans tend to call something weird or gay when they feel uncomfortable watching something that they are not used to seeing. It's probably a ploy to prevent those type of people from watching it by referring to Asian Americans only. Like if an American started calling it gay then someone would say why are you watching it in the first place, it says for Asian Americans anyways. But I doubt they only want Asians to watch the channel especially when I saw different races in the commercial.
