  • There is not enough literary respect for Jim Carroll. He was the poet laureate for the American experience of the 80's and 90's and if you never heard his works you need to get caught up. Jim's writings are so under-rated. He was and remains the man!

  • They shortened the solo!

  • RIP Jim ! Great times !

  • Did the eighties rawk more than this? No.

  • OMG! I can remember watching this! I loved Jim Carroll. I played this album to death.

  • George, I see you figured out at talkbass.com that it was Stevie Linsley playing with Jim Carroll in this clip and not Henry Rollins. I also thought it looked like Rollins when I viewed this clip today.

  • Still wondering if that is HENRY ROLLINS on bass.

  • I remember hearing It's Too Late,Voices, and People Who Died in the James Spader movie Tuff Turf and I was hooked as a fan of Jim Carroll's music. He's a brilliant musician, author, and poet.

  • Happy B'Day, Jim xxxxxx

  • Early Jim Carroll Band ruled

SO many great lines in this....

"when they got nothing to give they part their legs for what's negative"

  • "It is no contribution,

    to rely on the institution,

    to validate your chosen art,

    sanction your boredom,

and let you play your part."

    RIP Jim

  • That's "play out your part"....sorry.

  • The entire "Catholic Boy" album is a classic of the genre. Punishing but grooving music and truly poetic words. I was 20 when the album came out and I said, "man, this speaks to me!"

  • Jim Rock !

    † R.I.P. Brother †

  • I remember Jim telling me that his publisher (i think he said publisher) had a problem with mentioning Sharon Tate in the song but finally o.k.ed it .

    fond farewell Jim

  • Incredibly under-rated song...one of the hardest rockin' songs of all time. Period.

  • Roadhouse.....

  • "And John Belushi...above all others...this song is for you my brother!" Jim Live just after Belushi's death.

    Rest In Poetry my brother

  • "there's no one left that i even want to imitate"

  • it's too easy to rely on worshipping devils and strangers in bed, though they do get good drugs and they do give good head..

  • ....without that NEED to go out and find...some-body to love! (nice)!

  • RIP ---- Catholic Boy

    Redemed Through Pain

AN not through Joy Thanks for doing your part

  • As a "recovering catholic " I totally relate to and appreciate Jim's tunes and poetry... rest peacefully !

  • Oh my God.

    I hadn't heard.

I just foudn this bcs I'd check every now and again to see if anyone had put a copy of "It's Too Late" here (there was none for a really long time; thankyou catholicboyweb for rectifying that).

    I'm devastated.

    Far, far too young.

My condolences, thoughts, and prayers are with his family, friends, and colleagues.

  • RIP Jim

    Now it's too late.

    RIP Jim.
