I wonder in a self defense situation such as private security, how much damage it can give to the chest and head, if it makes good damage i'll start using it in my job
@tylormurphy Yep. I carry these and Double Tap's version for my Glock 30 and 29. The 10mm from Double Tab gives me 770 ft-lbs KE which is insane. Both expand more than 100% of original diameter with the .45 ACP finishing at 1.1"... and about 540 ft-lbs KE - that translates into a big fat .45 with .357 Mag energy, guaranteed to drop a 250lb linebacker on Meth.
when i test ths round i use milk jugs with water in them,,,,,the dpx opens GREAT but ALWAYS darts off to one side or the other in a sharp turn after it opens,,,,i dont know if that hurts anything i just thjink its strange,,,,,lol
This ammo is approved by my department. It does very well in all calibers, and I would especially recommend it for concealed carry. I have shot several hundred rounds of the 9mm and have NEVER had a failure.

Has anybody tested the 95 grain 9mm dpx? 1300 fps and 356 lb-ft of energy out of a p-11 that's awesome considering that copper is less dense than lead. Those copper bullets expand amazingly.

@GOGETFUKD2009 You don't need to train with your carry round, you just need to find a training round that feels similar, if not the same.
For example, I carry the CorBon DPX 115 gr. +P in a Glock 19, and I train with Winchester 9mm 124 gr. NATO FMJ. I stagger loaded three magazines to test the differences, and I couldn't differentiate between the two rounds in any way. Winchester 9mm 124 gr. NATO costs ~$11.95 per box of 50 saves me a great deal of money...
pt 2 :I Used 115 WWB for targets as well, but realized it was a failed Concept as im not Training with my Chosen Self Defense Round. I Was basically training with a round i would -Never Defend- me or my Family with. from what i've seen, DPX is obscenely overpriced gimmicky ammo that always yaws (tumbles) off course once it hits the target, probably due to some of the petals expanding before others. not good if you're aiming for an attacker's heart. also, in this particular test, penetration wasn't good either.
stick with HST, Gold Dot, Ranger-T, or Tactical Bonded

Anybody who is really a cop knows this.
@BasConnery Are you really a cop?Because you don't shoot an assailant when there's harmless civilians BEHIND HIM. Know your target and what's behind it.
one variable i've noticed in your tests is your jug/water/newspaper mixture. Do you add the same amount of all in every jug? maybe you could make it a standard. 10 full size papers to 5 cups water or something similar to offer better consistancy.
It is reasonably consistent, but no standard with regard to water. My primary objective is to insure that the jugs are packed full with as few water pockets as possible. I'm dropping this format in 2011 in favor of SIM-TEST ballistic media. That process should be very consistent, in addition to other benefits.
big & slow .45 small &fast .9mm. the .9mm is moving faster with more kinetic energy that the target will absorb if the bullet dont go thru. Jhp or ball. The .45 is bigger movin slower but delivering slightly more energy only slighty. The 9 makes up in speed wat it lacks in weight. SHOT PLACEMENT IS KEY NOT SIZE OR CAL
@tylormurphy You're WRONG. It's ALL of the above. Site ONE study where this is proven... didn't think you could. You cannot take one aspect of a round or a pistol or a shot and say "this factor" is what is the deciding factor. WRONG it doesnt' work that way. Try listening to Massad Ayood for some perspective.
@videotater it would be awesome if ballistics worked this way, assuming we could all carry a full meta jacket that wont seperate, but a faster, lighter bullet, like a .357 sig or even a .357 magnum traveling at 1400 fps will, ballistically, rip itself apart, why do you think a .223 penetrates about 7 inches then rips itself apart? because its going 2500 fps (or about) same goes for pistol rounds too, a 9mm 115gr JHP traveling at 1250 fps will rip itself apart, maybe not completely but somewhat
@videotater It's not really a know-it-all, but i have done independent research on the subject ie. shooting ballistics gel with each, i have taken thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of classes on the subject and other self defense type subjects, i have read, extensively, the findings of experts such as doctor gary roberts, and others who have literally dedicated their lives to this sort of research, i may not be the smartest but I know enough to where my opinion does matter on such topics
@videotater and in order to give the greatest possible permanent wound channel we want the greatest possible weight retention, which the heavier grain weights, 147 9mm, 147 .357 sig, `180 .40, 200 10mm, 200 .45 GAP, and 230 .45 ACP, will all yield better penetration, expansion, and weight retention after a successful connection with tissue, and a BONDED bullet will also help yield better weight retention and will stop itself from seperating on heavy bone like the unbonded golden saber will do
@videotater when he mentioned i contradicted myself was because he was saying that the velocity is greater so the bullet will penetrate better, so i said, in the context hes talking about, velocity isnt that important (in that way) infact, the way he was talking about was undoing the entire good of a hollowpoint, theres a difference between owning a corvette with a 4 cyl and a corvette with 7.0 8 cyl, its not all about how much energy we can transfer, its alot more in depth that just that
hey tnoutdoors i have watched i think all of your vids and was wondering if you or anyone else has tested the federal efmj. i couldn't find any vids on this, except for a water expansion test by andreleger2001. was wondering if there were any others or if you have exp with this cartridge. thanks for the great vids. and GOD BLESS
As of late October 2010, someone has offered to send some for testing. I used to swear by these things when they first came out, but that was with very informal testing.
does the lenght of this bullet cause feeding problems
not alot of penitration i dont think that 9mm is good for shooting through car doors but im realy conscerned about the length causing feeding issues other than that this thing expanded amazingly
I hate to ramble on about ammo but this round is actually not a true 115grn load, its actually an oddball round, ballistically the same as a 124 grn load, although it has no lead so its lighter but its longer so it acts heavier
@Sharingan221 YOU FUCKIN CONTRADICT URSELF FROM ONE VIDEO TO THE NEXT TO HELP YOUR ARGUEMENT.(MORON WHAT DID U THINK I WASNT GONNA READ BOTH COMMENTS U MADE TO ME??DUMBASS)OH FPS THIS FPS THAT IN THE FN VIDEO. NOW ITS "
HONOSTLY FPS SHOULD NOT BE SUMTHING U LOOK FOR" WTF R YOU TALKING ABOUT THAT IS A REALLY BIG FACTOR( NOT THE ONLY ONE) BUT A REALLY BIG ONE.wHY DO U THINK EVERY +P&+P+ RND IS MOVING FASTER THEN ALL OTHER RNDS????YOU FUCKING STUPID PIECE OF SHIT FUCKING TROLLER..KILL YOURSELF
@arkangel8419 wow calm down kiddo if you dont want to use my advice dont, dont get your panties in a bunch, too late though, and honestly if your gonna talk somebody like that you probably need some personal help, and i probably do know like idk alot more about ammunition than you ever could hope ive read about it, ive personally taken classes on it but whatever kid dont listen if you dont want to, and your fucking hydrashock is gonna seperate and was invented in the FUCKING 80's dipshit
@arkangel8419 oh ya i forgot to address the ungodly stupid +p or +p+, which is INFERIOR to the 147 gr 9mm, to all you +p junkies, all a +p will do is fragment which, idk if you know arkangel is NOT what we want in a HP, we want uniform expansion of a HP and the greatest possible permanent wound channel and best penetration, which a slower heavier 147 gr bullet WILL GIVE, watch tnoutdoors9 review of the 124gr and 147gr GDHP and you will soon learn how stupid you truly are
when i decide on a bullet, I look for a few differnt things 1.FPS 2. stopping power. 3. will the bullet over penetrate my target. I dont want to be the guy that shoots sumone and then pops a little baby thru a stroller. I use Golddot 115 gr spears right now but i normally put 2-3 hydrashocks on the tops of my mags just becasue they will be less likly to blow right thru sumone, so what is ur overall thinking of this ammo good to use a an averday carry or pretty much the sam as golddot?
@arkangel8419 Honestly FPS should NOT be something you look for in a carry round, due to physics a "faster" bullet tends to "explode" on impact not expand, the heavier, slower 147 gr round is going to be your best carry round for a 9mm if you want precise penetration and expansion and i can back this up by varying sources of media, you can message me or reply if you would like to read any of this
@arkangel8419 and as for your hydrashock, that was a great round in the 80's where FPS was the main sought after variable in a loading, this is 2010 and ballistics has increased greatly, and your HS is not going to be a bonded bullet which is something you should ALWAYS have, i personally use Ranger Talons Enhanced
YOUR A FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT TROLLER , WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT WHAT HE IS TRYING TO TALK ABOUT. I CARRY GOLDDOT SPEARS IN MY 9MM SO DONT FUCKING TALK TO ME ABOUT BONDED BULLETS DUMBASS, & BY THE WAY WHILE HAVING TIO FIRE A GUN IN A CROWDED BAR OR PARKING LOT THE HYDRASHOCK IS A MUCH BETTER RND( SEEING AS HOW THE BONDED GOLDDOT WILL MORE THEN LIKLY GO RIGHT THRU SUMONE & INTO THE INNOCENT GIRL OUT FOR A GOOD TIME. SO KISS MY ASS YOU WORTHLESS FUCKIN TROLLER. THEY STILL MAKE HS FOR A REASON
@arkangel8419 oh yes and your Hydrashok fake scenario about killing a little girl, Hydra shoks are NOTORIOUS for having their cavity filled with gel or denim or any other intermediate barrier, which will act like FMJ and idk if you know what FMJ jacket is, but it "Penetrate really really far" and you will, in the end, kill that little girl, anybody you wanna pick off? old lady in the street? Couple walking their dog? what other fake scenarios can you think of?
Probably 50-50 on the mix, but I haven't really checked that. There are various degress of denim based on threadcount. I have no idea what I using, the denim comes from various sources....old jeans, etc, anything I can find in my wife's closet!
kind of surprising it only made it 11 inches..i would have expected it to at least make it to the 3rd jug. It expanded well though, I think this bullet would expand through 6 or 7 layers of denim.
great video. very informative.do you know if i can use this ammo in a ruger p95? i am not sure if the p95 can us +p loads maybe you can clear that up for me.would appreciate it much.thanks
Hello tnoutdoors9 I want to know what ammo is best for a 357 magnum only magnum loads for me in a critical defense situation. I need something that's not going to go through my wall at or an innocent bystander on the street but I want something to put the perp down?
Good video series on hollowpoints! I tried DPX on water filled jugs using a Kel Tec P11 (3" barrel) and found no or only partial expasion. Do you have any suggestions for this type of pistol? I would like to see tests for concealed carry weapons using +P hollowpoints. Thanks, Jay
It looks like in this video that the 115gr DPX performed flawlessly and I was very impressed. This is what I'm currently carrying.
In other videos though you didn't seem to consider this one of your carry options/favorite ammo. Is there a particular reason why you disfavor this ammo? I'm not very familiar with some factors (such as what really is the ideal penetration amount) and may have missed a reason why this isn't as good as other ammunition.
@AllfatherGuideUs ah just saw in another reply you said you prefer bonded & heavier lead bullets. As far as I can tell that's pretty much the only reason? Thanks!
Tnoutdoors9, Great video, and MUCH appreciated. I have a question that I'm sure you've been asked a couple hundred times. What do you consider the best all around H.P. round for S.D. in a full size semi 9MM (like the glock 17) and in what grain? Keep up the great work!
I've carried the G17 at times and went with the same load I carry in the G19.....124 +P Gold Dot or 147 HST. Tough to say of these, and others, is the best....all of their strong points. Some might not recoil as much, leading to faster followups, low flash vs. blinding, etc. The predominant qualities will be specific to each individual.
I can't get enough of your video's... Keep up the good work. I've already subscribed. These video's are very informative because I own and carry the Glock as my primary concealed carry handgun so its that much better seeing your test done with the infamous Glock... Once again, helluva good job on the video's...
awesome video. thank you for being very clear in your videos, im going to be purchasing a Glock 19, as soon as my daughter is born. All im familiar with is 9mm NATO, when i was part of a heavy weapon squad in the army, so my knowledge of ammo is limited. Thanks Again!!
most ppl would probally be happy to kno i just got off the phone with carbon and thay say thay have the 9mm DPx 95gr standard!!!!!! for u guys like me who's gun wont handle the +p...)
Absolutely outstanding video. This is the first of your videos/reviews I have seen, and I am looking forward to seeing some more right now. Thank You!
Great demonstration. I carry the CorBon DPX .45 ACP 185gr +P on my Glock 36. Would love to see the same demo with the .45 instead, since I don't have the means to do it. Anyway great vid, thank you.
It's a good round but I don't understand why anyone would choose it because of it's penetration. There are other rounds, such as the gold dot and winchester XTP +p+ that have better penetration and overall muzzle energy.
Be sure to watch Dakota ammo's video, search for: CorBon DPX Product Demonstration Video. I wish they had included a gel shot with the 10mm and the .44 mag.
It would be interesting to see some further testing between the DPX and the Gold Dots.
This round is great, but HSTs are really good too if you can find them. They laugh at denim clogs as well and and come in heavyer loads. Tnoutdoors9 has tests of these.
thank you for doing this video. i wish i had the time and place to do tests like this. i'd personally do it just to have the mushroomed projectiles for display.
Barnes bullet only is being labeled Tactical-X, Tactical Pistol X, and their box indeed says TAC-XP. I did a GunBroker search for "Barnes 9mm" and only found 2 listing for about $31per 40 bullets. Cost per round (after s/h, primer, case, powder... est.) $1.50
Excellent video for performance of this round. I'm caught between this and the Speer Gold Dot for home defense. This is a very informative video and very well presented. Thank you!!!
Difficult to say. If you compare only velocity, energy, weight, penetration, etc., I still prefer the Gold Dot. I just like bonded bullets....and the heavier density of lead. However, one thing that cannot be determined from the test is the size of the wound channel. Does the DPX create a wider, longer wound channel than the Gold Dot? I really don't know.
As far as weight, between 8-10 pounds. Thickness is typically 5.5 inches. Is that what you needed? For stuffing the newspaper, I start with the jug half full of water, and add as needed.
Like a sewer. These jugs had been packed for several days and stored in the garage at around 65 degrees. They were swelling to a bursting point the morning of the test. There is a reaction going on between water and the chemicals in the newspaper; big time gas buildup that needed some relief prior to making the video.
Because of this, I am officially inventing the phrase "ammo testing jug farts". I need a witness to attest to the smell, so I'll see if Hickok45 is interested!
Great test, does anybody know of another all copper bullet used manufactured ammo. It would be nice to have something to compare it with. Thanks for the test and thank you to the person who supplied the ammo. With ammo's scarsity and cost these day it is very much appriciated
I really appreciate all the hard work you do to put these videos out. Most of us don't have access to places to perform these tests. These tests show which rounds really work and which don't. Thanks.5/5

BasConnery 1 year ago
@BasConnery Are you really a cop?Because you don't shoot an assailant when there's harmless civilians BEHIND HIM. Know your target and what's behind it.
RidgeRunner88 1 year ago
poor penetration, obscenely overpriced, unimpressive expansion=no thanks.
champop1911 1 year ago
one variable i've noticed in your tests is your jug/water/newspaper mixture. Do you add the same amount of all in every jug? maybe you could make it a standard. 10 full size papers to 5 cups water or something similar to offer better consistancy.
kaymanclark 1 year ago
@kaymanclark
It is reasonably consistent, but no standard with regard to water. My primary objective is to insure that the jugs are packed full with as few water pockets as possible. I'm dropping this format in 2011 in favor of SIM-TEST ballistic media. That process should be very consistent, in addition to other benefits.
tnoutdoors9 1 year ago
big & slow .45 small &fast .9mm. the .9mm is moving faster with more kinetic energy that the target will absorb if the bullet dont go thru. Jhp or ball. The .45 is bigger movin slower but delivering slightly more energy only slighty. The 9 makes up in speed wat it lacks in weight. SHOT PLACEMENT IS KEY NOT SIZE OR CAL
tylormurphy 1 year ago

Enjoy the videos...
videotater 1 year ago
@videotater It's not really a know-it-all, but i have done independent research on the subject ie. shooting ballistics gel with each, i have taken thousands upon thousands of dollars worth of classes on the subject and other self defense type subjects, i have read, extensively, the findings of experts such as doctor gary roberts, and others who have literally dedicated their lives to this sort of research, i may not be the smartest but I know enough to where my opinion does matter on such topics
Sharingan221 1 year ago
@videotater and in order to give the greatest possible permanent wound channel we want the greatest possible weight retention, which the heavier grain weights, 147 9mm, 147 .357 sig, `180 .40, 200 10mm, 200 .45 GAP, and 230 .45 ACP, will all yield better penetration, expansion, and weight retention after a successful connection with tissue, and a BONDED bullet will also help yield better weight retention and will stop itself from seperating on heavy bone like the unbonded golden saber will do
Sharingan221 1 year ago
@videotater when he mentioned i contradicted myself was because he was saying that the velocity is greater so the bullet will penetrate better, so i said, in the context hes talking about, velocity isnt that important (in that way) infact, the way he was talking about was undoing the entire good of a hollowpoint, theres a difference between owning a corvette with a 4 cyl and a corvette with 7.0 8 cyl, its not all about how much energy we can transfer, its alot more in depth that just that

As of late October 2010, someone has offered to send some for testing. I used to swear by these things when they first came out, but that was with very informal testing.

I was researching these and came across your video :) I am going to order a box of these for home use.

does the lenght of this bullet cause feeding problems
not alot of penitration i dont think that 9mm is good for shooting through car doors but im realy conscerned about the length causing feeding issues other than that this thing expanded amazingly
bobwatters 1 year ago

Sharingan221 1 year ago

I use Golddot 115 gr spears right now but i normally put 2-3 hydrashocks on the tops of my mags just becasue they will be less likly to blow right thru sumone, so what is ur overall thinking of this ammo good to use a an averday carry or pretty much the sam as golddot?
arkangel8419 1 year ago
@arkangel8419 Honestly FPS should NOT be something you look for in a carry round, due to physics a "faster" bullet tends to "explode" on impact not expand, the heavier, slower 147 gr round is going to be your best carry round for a 9mm if you want precise penetration and expansion and i can back this up by varying sources of media, you can message me or reply if you would like to read any of this
Sharingan221 1 year ago
@arkangel8419 and as for your hydrashock, that was a great round in the 80's where FPS was the main sought after variable in a loading, this is 2010 and ballistics has increased greatly, and your HS is not going to be a bonded bullet which is something you should ALWAYS have, i personally use Ranger Talons Enhanced
Sharingan221 1 year ago
THEY STILL MAKE HS FOR A REASON
arkangel8419 1 year ago
@arkangel8419 oh yes and your Hydrashok fake scenario about killing a little girl, Hydra shoks are NOTORIOUS for having their cavity filled with gel or denim or any other intermediate barrier, which will act like FMJ and idk if you know what FMJ jacket is, but it "Penetrate really really far" and you will, in the end, kill that little girl, anybody you wanna pick off? old lady in the street? Couple walking their dog? what other fake scenarios can you think of?
Sharingan221 1 year ago
what are the water jugs made out of (like how much newspaper and water) and whats the denim?
yoho951 1 year ago
@yoho951
Probably 50-50 on the mix, but I haven't really checked that. There are various degress of denim based on threadcount. I have no idea what I using, the denim comes from various sources....old jeans, etc, anything I can find in my wife's closet!
tnoutdoors9 1 year ago
kind of surprising it only made it 11 inches..i would have expected it to at least make it to the 3rd jug. It expanded well though, I think this bullet would expand through 6 or 7 layers of denim.

Good video series on hollowpoints! I tried DPX on water filled jugs using a Kel Tec P11 (3" barrel) and found no or only partial expasion. Do you have any suggestions for this type of pistol? I would like to see tests for concealed carry weapons using +P hollowpoints. Thanks, Jay
jwash3rd 1 year ago
I would like more penetration,I prefer +P+ in a 124 grain offering in the 9mm.
boostimalaka1 1 year ago
tnoutdoors9 -
It looks like in this video that the 115gr DPX performed flawlessly and I was very impressed.
Thank you!

Keep up the great work!

jeffinchi 1 year ago
@jeffinchi
I've carried the G17 at times and went with the same load I carry in the G19.....124 +P Gold Dot or 147 HST. Tough to say of these, and others, is the best....all of their strong points. Some might not recoil as much, leading to faster followups, low flash vs. blinding, etc. The predominant qualities will be specific to each individual.
tnoutdoors9 1 year ago
I can't get enough of your video's... Keep up the good work. I've already subscribed. kalashnikova762x39 2 years ago
It's a good round but I don't understand why anyone would choose it because of it's penetration. There are other rounds, such as the gold dot and winchester XTP +p+ that have better penetration and overall muzzle energy.
FlyingAce1717 2 years ago
Be sure to watch Dakota ammo's video, search for: CorBon DPX Product Demonstration Video. I wish they had included a gel shot with the 10mm and the .44 mag.
It would be interesting to see some further testing between the DPX and the Gold Dots.
Personally, I'll stick with DPX.

do you think these are more effective than the speer gold dot?
jeffclark500 2 years ago
Difficult to say. If you compare only velocity, energy, weight, penetration, etc., I still prefer the Gold Dot. I just like bonded bullets....and the heavier density of lead. However, one thing that cannot be determined from the test is the size of the wound channel. Does the DPX create a wider, longer wound channel than the Gold Dot? I really don't know.

tnoutdoors9 2 years ago
how bad does that wet paper smell????
Blk05titan26 2 years ago
Like a sewer. These jugs had been packed for several days and stored in the garage at around 65 degrees. They were swelling to a bursting point the morning of the test. There is a reaction going on between water and the chemicals in the newspaper; big time gas buildup that needed some relief prior to making the video.
Because of this, I am officially inventing the phrase "ammo testing jug farts". I need a witness to attest to the smell, so I'll see if Hickok45 is interested!
