Thank god for the EU, we'd be in some kind of 1920's monopoly world where giant companies lied, cheated, and stole with no regards for anyone else without them. Also shameful how weak and useless the US' regulatory framework is to do nothing.
The 27 facists at work. 27 comissioners not elected by us, decide for us. They need the cash to fund their extremes. the money form the fines go to Brusells. 1 % of vat form all 27 coutnries and 15 % of inport duties goes to them but they give money out and never ever check them. And the corruoption is thriving within the system where we have to use three not one parliaments. Ok take the cash form the fines but give it to the people and small bussiness which need it badly, DON'T POCKET IT.
The deserve the fine, and yes the money will be used to pay something useful for the EU, like funding beneficial scientific progress, because the money Intel would have earned would be given to the USA to kill innocent people.
I agree 100% with the EU commission, and i think they should fine most of the dishonest American companies.
No one has been courageous enough to truly challenge Intel, to become a worthy competitor. Why, then, should Intel be responsible for the failings of others?
I don't think you know how much you depend on American products. (The computer you use is most likely American.)
Do you think it's justified to force the money that someone has earned away to fund someone else? And by whose standards was Intel "dishonest"?
The litigation was apparently concerning Intel giving preferential supply deals to computer corporations, which made it difficult for AMD and other microprocessor manufacturers to sell their products.
I agree with you wholly: this ruling is disgusting.
yes but they are monopolising, if one day intel got destroyed by terrorist, their secret will be lost, they need to share their knowledge with the world.
We must allow competion like AMD, yes its regretful European do not produce cpu like intel, but in fact they do, there are military CPU's done in Europe that are more powerful but too expensive for consumer market, europeans did not have the genious to exploit this, they should now.
There is a difference between not sharing knowledge and holding a monopoly. If all Intel-owned property were to be destroyed by terrorists, their product would not die. I'm sure they have models everywhere-patent office, for one.
If AMD wants to be considered, then it may innovate. Otherwise, it should not expect Intel to surrender profits for another.
Rather than punishing those who succeed, fight them for dominance. This creates incentives and appeals to innovation rather than to lazy theft.
this is bullshit, we also don't elect national ministers so we also dont elect EU comissioners. we elect the EU parliament who control and check the EU commission. and if that still isnt enough, the commission is checkt by the EU council, comprising of national ministers who you did elect in your national elections.
In the history of the free market their has never been such a thing as a monopoly. All attempts have been futile.
But we know a different kind of monopoly called a Coercive monopoly: ´´exclusive control of a given field of production wich is closed to and exempt from competition, so that those controlling the field are able to set arbitrary production policies and charge arbitrary prices independent of the market´´.
FINALY, now i hope a similar fine is issued in the US, and intel needs to pay AMD lots of money, for the sales they took away from them, and they need to let AMD use some of there tech, to help AMD recover, that will teach Intel a lesson. i still refuse to buy Intel Processors for the reason of these illegal practices.
sad day for markets. Intel had to be creative to be able to afford to reduce prices like that. Thes days it's more populair to be against big bussiness.
Please stop and think what these laws actually mean for our freedom.
Check out Ayn Rand-Atlas shrugged and Capitalism the unknown ideal.
sad day for markets? sad day for the intel monopoly only. for the customer, you want freedom of choice, which intel didnt want and ILLEGALY payed the sellers (retail, oem etc.) extra cash for selling intel only!
just imagine, intel bullies amd out, only intel cpu's on the market. they can set the price they want, because of no competition. you want that?
Getting a contract with another company as their sole supplier is not illegal: it's solid economic strategy that Intel used to their profit, and the profit of the companies they supplied (which translates as cheaper hardware for consumers, fyi). It is indeed a sad day for markets when government bodies rule that practice as illegal.
Providing any type of money to prevent your clients from buying from your competition is the bread and butter of a monopoly. Its not the same as putting money in R&D or advertisement. They screwed up, their gonna pay for it. Pretty just in my opinion.
It would be just if they had screwed up their products, rather than try and fight off a ridiculous anti-trust suit. I fail to see what Intel did wrong in this case: they had a good product, and they offered rebates to companies to use it. The consumer then has access to the best on the market. Everybody wins.
If they gave rebates simply to use their products, thats fine. They didn't, they gave rebates not to use AMD's products... you know their only competition? Its not a simple choice of AMD or Intel for large companies, different product lines can use either or across the board. Intel didn't like that, they want to be the only choice. That is illegal, and for good reason.
A cursory search on google or wikipedia reveals that No, Intel and AMD are Not the only competitors on the market. PC suppliers have a considerable range of choice when it comes to microprocessors.
The rebates were offered to suppliers on the condition that Intel become the only supplier. That it's worked for them is indicative of how much more competitive Intel's overall package is compared with AMD. The Commission's final report also failed to take into account evidence in Intel's favor.
intel abused its dominant position. O RLY? like that's something new.
imo the eu took to long to find that out (ok they needed proof / evidence) and the fine is to low. i hope amd sues intel now, i wanna see those greedy guys from intel BLEED.
AMD and Intel have been circling each other since Intel stopped licensing their microprocessors to AMD, and AMD responded by getting the California Supreme Court to force Intel to let AMD use their chips. If anyone is being "greedy" in this case, it's AMD.
Intel is an anti-American terrorist organization. It's a shame that the Europe justice system has to spend it's time & money to uncover the corruption of Intel corporation. This is a job the U.S. Justice system should have performed. It did not because the U.S. justice system is also corrupt.
Intel maliciously discriminates against the American technical people and gives the jobs to inferior FOREIGNERS.
BOYCOTTING Intel is the best thing one can do for the moment.
Yes, I estimate that at least 75% of the U.S. high tech companies discriminate against Americans. That's why so many are also doing bad.
Motorola cell phone is so bad they can't even sell it! Lucent is out of business! Nortel is bankrupt. Qualcomm convicted of stealing patents (fined $19 MIL). And all is caused by these companies discriminating against American technical people & giving the jobs to inferior Indians, Asians & eastern Euro rougues.
Alright, and it'll be you and lots of other people like you not buying their tech that sends them the message or drives them out of business. The U.S. Justice system is irrelevant to the scenario you describe (except for the patent infringement, obviously).
@androsblaze I read an article that said Intel discriminates so much against Americans that it made a "pact" with EEOC. But then the EEOC is another useless & corrupt organization paid off by high-tech. Not a single State's Attorney or Attorney General in 50 states ever investigates let alone prosecutes a single high-tech company for discrimination against Americans. Pure political corruption.
@njattack I'm going to assume you mean other than Silicon Valley tech, because I found that article, and at the time of its writing only Intel had signed on with the EEOC. Granted, that was six years ago.
@androsblaze It's 99% of the high-tech in the U.S. that are discriminating against Americans because they are white and secondly because they are over a certain age. Discrimination is a FELONY! A "pact" with the EEOC is absurd. Those doing the discriminating should be EXECUTED! I have been picketing ITT in Clifton, NJ for the last 8 months 5 days a wk. My signs: DEPORT ASIANS, INDIA, H-1B! AMERICAN JOBS R ONLY 4 AMERICANS! FDR: 1932 NO IMMIGRANTS FOR AMERICA! Foreigners IS the problem.
I wanted to thank you for this great video! I definitely enjoying every little bit of it.
