still remember the first time I beat Akuma I was telling my mom and dad, "look I won!" then I closed in on Mariko in fighting position and she pwned my ass :( They were laughing really hard. I finally figured out you have to run at her haha

@odislaw Wow I was 6 when I got an Atari 7800 that came with Pole Position and I got Karateka..never could figure out how to attack the vultures. I use to take apart the controllers and couldn't get the springs back to the red side buttons.

Again...I didn't like how after I FINALLY made it throught this game ( the gates/portcullis crushing me...the final boss ..the bird) to have the "love of my life" knock me the F out with 1 blow at the end. It's like somone else said out here...I wish I could have picked the girl from the start because if she knocked me out with (1) SHOT ... I would have finished this game much faster.

This was a well written game!

Ataris manufactured in 1978 were playing up 4 sound voices at once with 128 colors on screen simultaneously.

Much better than an IBM PC at the time...until the early 80's!

But honestly I had this game myself, remember it was one of the better graphics - what I mean was that right now if I got back in time and suddenly moved to 1990 I would definitelly smash that computer into pieces!

Then the character fell to the floor and the game was OVER.

@clydecromey Indeed. The C64 seemed to be graphically the best of the bunch. I remember it being a pain in the ass trying to press the space bar and the move right button simultaniously to get the guy to run. I spent more time trying to run than to fight. :) I also loved how Akuma or some of the other ninjas would burst through the door and start kicking your face in before you knew what hit you. Suspense and drama. Not bad for 1984. I miss the good old days. I sound like my grandfather.

The Atari version of Karateka was the best one. It took me about 15 tries to figure out that in order to get the ending, you cannot walk towards the Princess in your fighting stance, or else she will kill you. The correct way was to run into her arms. Good thing I still own this game, it's a personal favorite of mine.

To get a whole lot of heck revenge on her, ya'll see how it was done in the karateka 2 wrath of dude movie. Karateka 2 was less boring than the first game; ya kick enemies to the air! and ya killed akuma by throwing a spear at him! And, as Akuma is defeated, the karateka remembers what happened in the original game: Mariko gave a killing kick at his head! Now karateka approaches her again and she kicks him again...

Then karateka says, "ill be back..." and "never mess up with the dude again". Then Mariko replies "Youll never live the fate of dealing with me". But karateka says "not on your life" and throws a spear at her.

What an awesome ending! and when i saw karateka kicking her, i laughed:) Ya can watch this movie on youtube!
