Ricky Gervais can't stop talking about G-d. He is obsessed with religion and G-d. If he was truly uninterested in G-d he would ignore it. I think he knows that he made a major decision with childish logic to not believe in G-d at the age of 8. He puts G-d in the same category as Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny. A parent with a child in hospital doesn't say "Please Santa Claus if you are real, help my child" nor does a soldier in a fox hole pray "Easter Bunny protect me please". It bothers him.

Atheism and shamelessness are big bucks; Gervais is living proof of that. Explains how a talentless, pasty gimp who laughs like a hyena on Prozac (often at his own jokes) becomes big news. Such is the state of the world.

@umaralansari "Atheism and shamelessness are big bucks; "
Unlike TV evangelism or religious cults in the US, or the Catholic Church, or the Saudi theocratic state, or fraudulent "miracle"-working prophets of all denominations in India.
@crapatev You're right, of course. Everyone's selling (or stealing) something. Though it seems to me that tv evangelists, for isntance, are typically cable outfits, having negligible influence in the national mainstream media - unlike atheist posterboys such as Gervais or Hitchens...
(Note: Saudi Arabia is not a theocratic state, it is a royal kleptomaniacal dictatorship whose survival is partly dependent on western powers who wish to preserve its status quo as an easy-access gas station.)
@Dagens24 The Dark Ages were so in Europe (whence came the Crusades).
The Inquisition followed 700 years of Moorish rule in Spain, under which there had been vibrant intellectual & cultural developments, unprecedented tolerance (with a flourishing Jewish community in Europe not seen again til the 20th c), modern city planning (incl. street lighting), irrigation... Oh, & hygiene was introduced to Europe. To say nothing of Asia, whence this all came.
@umaralansari Relax. I'm a Christian and I don't let people like Gervias get under my skin, because that's exactly the reaction they want :) I think we both know he's far from 'talentless', and the 'shock jock' guys could not be further from Gervais on the spectrum of comedy. The only way anyone's going to reach and engage someone like Gervais is with a sense of humor, a KEEN sense of humor, which far far too many Christians forget to use to their advantage. :)
@customcartoons CONT'D When he said ".. because Santa's at least POSSIBLE." I just wanted to honk him on the nose, and go "aww lookit you, with your lil jokes." But srsly, how many Christian friends do you think he really has? Who's praying for him, besides me? As long Gervais' heart is still beating, there's time for him to change.
@makerzddd Haha, I said, "honk" him on the nose, "HONK". As in a muppet-like "beep-beep" gesture, implying the end of the nose is like a little bike horn. Got your nose! (HONK!) Geesh.
@trisoutlaw86 no one here is an "idiot" simply because their opinions differ from yours. Let's be a little more open-minded and tolerant of alternative lifestyles shall we? Thank you.
@customcartoons i am far more tolerant than religious people of religious people's views and lifestyles. i just believe that if you think there is a god then you are an idiot in that area of your life
don't be so patronising as well i can say what i fucking want
@customcartoons Well, he has more talent than say Russell Brand; but let's just say this 'talent', even in the limited context of The Office, does not explain the kind of attention he is getting, which sees him plastered all over the media. Something else is at play.
Not a Stern or a Hicks, no, but he is very much a preacher using a shameless, provocative style of 'comedy' to help spread an atheist agenda. See him preaching away in standup mode.
@Atheisophy - Why shouldn't he be happy? No unjustified guilt, no constant disappointment by a god who isn't there, and no need to constantly harangue his friends with religious dogma. :)
Ricky is a very funny person, but why do atheists have this tendency to throw their personal beliefs (or lack of) into every conversation, .. . like they're itching to promote it . .. its kinda irritating
@Tigarius4 i'm an atheist but i think you're seriously wrong on that point. it is undeniable that the traditionalism and fear based morality of religion were neccessary in regulating behaviour at a time before any effective law, or method of it's enforcement, were possible. without the training wheels of religion, the creation and progress of human society beyond a pack of barbaric animals would have been impossible. in that sense, we owe society to religion.
@samm1809 Yes, and now human society has progressed beyond even the point of having to reason or talk in terms other than trendy soundbites, as Tigarius4 makes clear with his "religion is the cause of all ills" shtick...
@monsieurhassan Because other religions, mainly Christianity, gets thrown in our faces every single day. Just last week, there were missionaries at my doorstep asking me to let Jesus guide me!
@piero101 I think monsieurhassan's point here is, atheists seem to be marching down the same evangelistic path that many religions do, in their effort to "help" people, or just be public about it. This earns them the same "keep that !@#$ behind closed doors" reaction (I as a Christian have grown so used to), which i find ironic and amusing.
Hope I didn't put words in your mouth, monsieurhassan. :)
he mentions it on the podcasts, he said it at the globes, often on his blog...Ricky - we get it! i know Christopher Hitchens and Dawkins are great - I went through their videos and debates much like it seems you have recently...but Carlin should've been the last comedian to talk about God. He once and for all put Jesus to rest...
You're not saying anything new. We don't have to keep saying we're atheists, and you just look like an attention grabbing git.
Comics are on to something. Jesters were as well. Religions take themselves way too seriously. It is a high point of consciousness to be able to laugh at yourself & the world around you while simultaneously looking death straight in the face. To do it without feeling compelled to “drink the Kool-aid” or give in to the pressure to “keep your opinions to yourself” is nothing short of heroic.
Ricky doesn’t TRY to identify himself as a non-believe he just IS. His willingness to speak his truths clearly, freely, & w humor is Damn, F—ing, Refreshing! I feel repressed by Religious Zealots on a daily basis. When someone comes along w an alternate view point from the Status-Quo, the novelty alone can make both the message & the messenger stand out. But seriously contrast how often we’re fed the pablum of the Great Myth of Christianity vrs the times we’ve heard Ricky's views. No comparison!
I hear what you are saying and i also get fed up for example with people walking around with a statement on a t-shirt unless it is a funny one,but i think that the best way to confront religion is with humour and satire and irony and for this Ricky is just brilliant and articulate.
@romber58 On the basis of that well constructed reply, could you, or someone, explain the thursday joke... I just don't understand it, and googling it did fuck all! What does it mean?!
@ShiivaWilding Thursday was named after the Norse GOD Thor. Ricky mentioned how some Christians don't even want him to use the word 'Christ' if he's not a Christian. He's saying, perhaps no one should use the word 'Thursday' either unless they believe in the GOD Thor.
@nspires1 It's true. so many English words are used inadvertenly today we have no idea where they were derived from. You would think this day in age we as a cultured society they would teach these origins at school. The current education system is just making more stupid and turning us into productive drones of society, conditioned to do one thing very good, over and over again for big brother.
@romber58 as a Christian, I couldn't agree more! I get so weary of my "fellow" believers failing again and again to confront atheism with humor, satire and irony. Wouldn't it be a much better "fight" if all we lobbed at each were jokes? ^_^
@romber58 haha, very good. I don't think i am because i have'nt got a head like a fucking orange! although i can't stand jelly fish.....get rid of 'em.
Why the hell does Ricky try so hard to identify himself as a non-believer in christianity? I don't even understand why atheism needs a title. It should just be known as normal as opposed to religious. As a non-religious person i feel alienated from his comedy because it has absolutely no reference point for me. I wish he'd go back to being a comedian rather than a shit stirrer
@povrick He's just not a non-believer in christianity, but a non-believer of any deity. I believe he just uses christianity because his audience (fan or non fan) are western. Evolution is also a word that should be known as normal as opposed to creationism :).
For me, Ricky is doing such a great thing by promoting atheism. He can reach a massive global audience that includes people who have never thought about questioning their religion, something that Dawkins, Harris and Hitchens etc cannot do. Good on him for also putting his beliefs before his career, it takes a brave man to say what he has said in the states.
I'm christian and apparantly the only person who doesn't get offended by this... fuck me, the comments on other videos of Ricky's, you'd think he'd found the corpse of Jesus and pissed on it, seriously, what are people moaning about! He's atheist, I'm christian, apart from that we agree on everything he's saying about religion!
@aparthia No, I don't think the bible is downright wrong. We agree on the idea of organised religion shouldn't exist, people shouldn't delude themselves with the idea of turning up to a purpose built temple will grant them passage into their respective afterlifes and that it needs to be personal. A faith for oneself doesn't impede on anyone else, doesn't cause conflict. He's said all of this on many occasions and it's this that we agree on (which is the whole of every religion covered in one).
@aparthia And I wasn't just referring to this video but every single one of his videos that I could find, along with some of his dvds, that bring up the subject of religion. Just thought I better point that out in case you tried relating what I just said to this interview.
@PatrickMoog Truth is subjective to an individual in the absence of proven fact. Where religion, scientology (not a religion, no deity to worship), evolution can't be proven (and none of them can), we have to evaluate them all and choose which one to believe in. Atheism (evolution) is getting very popular since people realised they can't prove religion to be right, but I like christianity so I choose to follow it. Understand where I'm coming from?
@ShiivaWilding Uhmm what makes you say that evolution is not a proven fact? in fact it is one of our best documented and most well experimented sciences we have. Its as well proven as gravity, actually even better!
Oh and evolution does not equal atheism, it just supports it very well.
Lastly you can't "believe" in atheism, its way simpler than that, it just means you don't believe in a god, nothing else.
@PatrickMoog From the proof I have seen, evolution isn't proven but assumed. I have researched evolution and been to various suggested sites by friends and internet strangers who have argued it's existance and none of them made me believe that it exists. Until they can accelerate evolution and show it happening over the course of someones lifetime, then I might believe. If you have solid proof on a website or something, please send it to me.
@ShiivaWilding Sure I can speed up evolution for you. Have you heard of a little thing called Influenza virus?
Why do you think you can get this multiple times? Each year your immune system learns how to fight it, and you get well. But then about a year later you are get sick again. Well that's because the virus has evolved in to a new form your immune system does not know. Some bacteria even evolves in the course of few hours.
@PatrickMoog While we evolved from single celled organisms. Think of the proof I want to see. I don't want to see something evolving into a stronger version of what it already is, I want to see it change completely, as evolutionists suggest. We share 98% of our DNA with rats, mice and other small rodents. We share 70% of our DNA with bananas! To me (my opinion is) that suggests a creator who made everything, thus we share the building blocks (DNA) used. Try and convince me otherwise (again).
@ShiivaWilding What do you mean by "see"? Evolution is very small changes in each generation, so for big visual changes, it can take thousands of years. Oh and evolution don't suggest we share 98% DNA with rats... we share 98% DNA with chimpanzees, which makes sense as we have a common ancestor. But yes, we share much over the majority of DNA with rats. And I believe its 60% percent for a banana but how do you go from that to a omnipotent god?
@PatrickMoog It's never been proven with concrete evidence that man evolved from apes, or that we share common ancestor. They've found fossils and seen how much DNA we share and assumed that that's what happened. I know I may be asking for a lot to see a physical evolution, but science is always advancing and I hope that, before I die, I can be shown accelerated evolution, or a means of gene manipulation to show evolution at work.
@ShiivaWilding To put it bluntly: If evolution isn't a reality, then we have to scrap almost everything we know about biology and biological functions, including how our immune system works. There is absolutely no reason why humans should be the ONE creature on earth that didn't evolve from another species, especially since we DO have evidence of that exact occurrence in OTHER species, for instance in certain lizards in South America where both the "ancestor" and the new species still exist :)
@steffenml Wow, another argument for evolution that doesn't provide any evidence... if evolution isn't a reality then God made everything how it is today and natural selection (not evolution) has meant that some imperfections have become a dominant part of the gene pool, hence this seemingly unbroken chain of mutations people call evolution (when in fact, it's not). Evidence my friend, you do need it when trying to convince someone of something they consider utter shite.
@ShiivaWilding Umm, no. It's not like I could copy/paste peer-reviewed articles here, so I gave you specific examples - espescially the lizards is something you want to look up. If you actually want evidence, then READ evidence. Read peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals - don't expect people to shove education down your throat.
@steffenml The problem with scientific evidence... is that it's not evidence. It's what's presumed to have happened. Like I said in my conversation with PatrickMoog below, evolution can only really be proven when scientists have developed a way of accelerating the process to show it happening right in front of our eyes, otherwise us sceptics aren't convinced. You're presuming these lizards are the ancestor and the evolutionary result... when really, they could just share DNA (read on)
@steffenml There is no way of proving the lizard evolved into the other lizard, nor that we evolved from apes. These theories are based on the DNA we share with apes, and the DNA the lizards share (yes, I've read the article and the essay written on it), but we share DNA with mice, sea cucumbers and bananas, yet they don't say we evolved from any of them. Hence, another solution must be sought and I choose to believe in God. Copy and paste some URLs, by all means try and convince me otherwise.
@ShiivaWilding Well aside from the fact that until you provide an alternative theory, your ideas won't be taken seriously, you're actually dead wrong in this case, which is why I asked you to look this specific example up to begin with. The evidence for the evolution of these animals is astounding - including a complete lineage of _still living_ lizards of each species. The changes seem insignificant from place to place, but the difference between the sea- and inland lizard is huge.
@ShiivaWilding And seriously - you doubt evolution because of "lack of evidence", but you believe in God? I have no problem with people being skeptical, but really? God? THAT is your alternative hypothesis? You're right, they don't say we evolved from mice or bananas - nor that we evolved from monkeys. We share an ancestor with monkeys - as do we with bananas. Hence, we another solution "must" not be sought, but unlike with religion you are free to do so, if you can actually provide evidence.
@steffenml Belief isn't based on logic my friend. The differences between inland and coastal lizards is entirely down to natural selection (some mutations get picked off on the coastal areas, but others get picked off around the inland areas, hence a difference between the two shown across almost every species of animal(search up light and dark moths on google, you'll see what I mean) not evolution which sees animals becoming fish, or birds... changing completely without evidence how.
@ShiivaWilding See this is my problem: There is LOADS of evidence for evolution, which you obviously haven't read, since you bring up the example of "animals becoming fish" - which would actually be evidence AGAINST evolution. You claim there is not enough evidence in evolution to believe in it, but you still talk about faith not requiring evidence. You do see the contradiction there, right? If your beliefs are not supported any grain of evidence, you should review your beliefs.
@steffenml They say we were once a single celled organism that evolved over millions of years to finally get to the human stage. They also say an atom exploded and the world came out of it... if you can link me to evidence of those two, I might convert.
@ShiivaWilding *sigh* You have NO knowledge of science, and it's getting tiresome. Noone claims an atom exploded and the world came out. As for the evidence for a single celled organism that evolved etc. - I'm not allowed to post links in here, but pubmed, science, nature and heaps of other credible magazines have literally thousands upon thousands of papers on this. Read about 20, and you might start to understand a small bit. Though, looking at your response so far, I doubt it.
@steffenml "Though, looking at your response so far, I doubt it." I've read plenty of essays, researched it to my hearts content and found more substantial evidence for the existance of biblical events (proven by scientists no less) then evolution and the big bang. This would make any sane person choose to believe in the existance of God. Stop getting mardy because I don't believe in evolution and tell me what to search for on google if you're that concerned what one Englishman believes.
@ShiivaWilding Norwegian* It doesn't seem like it, when you actually make a claim like "animals evolving from fish" and "an atom exploding and creating the world". I'm getting "mardy" because though it started out as a perfectly good conversation, it's turned into you using post hoc ergo propte hoc and straw men fallacies. Please do provide me with scientific evidence for biblical events that even come close to the evidence provided for evolution or the m-theory.
So flipping the video horizontally either makes Rick look gay, or straight from the 80's? I should remember that next time I judge people on TV.

Keep praying, if you wish.

@monsieurhassan Religion has held back the development of man more than anything else.
Tigarius4 8 months ago 39
@Tigarius4 i'm an atheist but i think you're seriously wrong on that point. it is undeniable that the traditionalism and fear based morality of religion were neccessary in regulating behaviour at a time before any effective law, or method of it's enforcement, were possible. without the training wheels of religion, the creation and progress of human society beyond a pack of barbaric animals would have been impossible. in that sense, we owe society to religion.
samm1809 5 months ago
@samm1809 Yes, and now human society has progressed beyond even the point of having to reason or talk in terms other than trendy soundbites, as Tigarius4 makes clear with his "religion is the cause of all ills" shtick...

@Tigarius4 I think that a man has held the development of himself back and not the religion. At the end, the religion has been invented by man.

@monsieurhassan Because other religions, mainly Christianity, gets thrown in our faces every single day. Just last week, there were missionaries at my doorstep asking me to let Jesus guide me!

@monsieurhassan ah, and religious people never do this?
piero101 7 months ago
@piero101 I think monsieurhassan's point here is, atheists seem to be marching down the same evangelistic path that many religions do, in their effort to "help" people, or just be public about it. This earns them the same "keep that !@#$ behind closed doors" reaction (I as a Christian have grown so used to), which i find ironic and amusing.
Hope I didn't put words in your mouth, monsieurhassan. :)

ShiivaWilding 10 months ago
@ShiivaWilding Thursday was named after the Norse GOD Thor. Ricky mentioned how some Christians don't even want him to use the word 'Christ' if he's not a Christian. He's saying, perhaps no one should use the word 'Thursday' either unless they believe in the GOD Thor.
nspires1 10 months ago
@nspires1 Ahhh, of course... the norse religion, so overlooked in this day and age. Thanks for that btw, very helpful :D
ShiivaWilding 10 months ago
@nspires1 It's true. so many English words are used inadvertenly today we have no idea where they were derived from. You would think this day in age we as a cultured society they would teach these origins at school. The current education system is just making more stupid and turning us into productive drones of society, conditioned to do one thing very good, over and over again for big brother.

@cjason123 So true. Funny that people dont know that the names come from regarding day´s.
They all comes from the Norse mythology except Saturday that comes from the Roman god.
chairmanmjauu 10 months ago 3
@ShiivaWilding
The word Thursday comes from Thunor's day meaning Thor day. Thor was one of many gods in the Norse mythology. Lookup Norse mythology in wikiperdia.
I think you can figure the joke out from that fact. ;)

Why the hell does Ricky try so hard to identify himself as a non-believer in christianity? I don't even understand why atheism needs a title. It should just be known as normal as opposed to religious. As a non-religious person i feel alienated from his comedy because it has absolutely no reference point for me. I wish he'd go back to being a comedian rather than a shit stirrer
povrick 10 months ago
@povrick He's just not a non-believer in christianity, but a non-believer of any deity. I believe he just uses christianity because his audience (fan or non fan) are western. Evolution is also a word that should be known as normal as opposed to creationism :).

For me, Ricky is doing such a great thing by promoting atheism. He can reach a massive global audience that includes people who have never thought about questioning their religion, something that Dawkins, Harris and Hitchens etc cannot do. Good on him for also putting his beliefs before his career, it takes a brave man to say what he has said in the states.

@ShiivaWilding So you agree the bible is downright wrong?
aparthia 7 months ago
@aparthia No, I don't think the bible is downright wrong. We agree on the idea of organised religion shouldn't exist, people shouldn't delude themselves with the idea of turning up to a purpose built temple will grant them passage into their respective afterlifes and that it needs to be personal. A faith for oneself doesn't impede on anyone else, doesn't cause conflict. He's said all of this on many occasions and it's this that we agree on (which is the whole of every religion covered in one).
ShiivaWilding 7 months ago
@aparthia And I wasn't just referring to this video but every single one of his videos that I could find, along with some of his dvds, that bring up the subject of religion. Just thought I better point that out in case you tried relating what I just said to this interview.
ShiivaWilding 7 months ago
@ShiivaWilding well except the truth part, right ;)
PatrickMoog 6 months ago
@PatrickMoog Truth is subjective to an individual in the absence of proven fact. Where religion, scientology (not a religion, no deity to worship), evolution can't be proven (and none of them can), we have to evaluate them all and choose which one to believe in. Atheism (evolution) is getting very popular since people realised they can't prove religion to be right, but I like christianity so I choose to follow it. Understand where I'm coming from?
ShiivaWilding 6 months ago
@ShiivaWilding Uhmm what makes you say that evolution is not a proven fact? in fact it is one of our best documented and most well experimented sciences we have. Its as well proven as gravity, actually even better!
Oh and evolution does not equal atheism, it just supports it very well.
Lastly you can't "believe" in atheism, its way simpler than that, it just means you don't believe in a god, nothing else.
PatrickMoog 6 months ago
@PatrickMoog From the proof I have seen, evolution isn't proven but assumed. I have researched evolution and been to various suggested sites by friends and internet strangers who have argued it's existance and none of them made me believe that it exists. Until they can accelerate evolution and show it happening over the course of someones lifetime, then I might believe. If you have solid proof on a website or something, please send it to me.
ShiivaWilding 6 months ago
@ShiivaWilding Sure I can speed up evolution for you. Have you heard of a little thing called Influenza virus?
Why do you think you can get this multiple times? Each year your immune system learns how to fight it, and you get well. But then about a year later you are get sick again. Well that's because the virus has evolved in to a new form your immune system does not know. Some bacteria even evolves in the course of few hours.
PatrickMoog 6 months ago
@PatrickMoog While we evolved from single celled organisms. Think of the proof I want to see. I don't want to see something evolving into a stronger version of what it already is, I want to see it change completely, as evolutionists suggest. We share 98% of our DNA with rats, mice and other small rodents. We share 70% of our DNA with bananas! To me (my opinion is) that suggests a creator who made everything, thus we share the building blocks (DNA) used. Try and convince me otherwise (again).
ShiivaWilding 6 months ago
@ShiivaWilding What do you mean by "see"? Evolution is very small changes in each generation, so for big visual changes, it can take thousands of years. Oh and evolution don't suggest we share 98% DNA with rats... we share 98% DNA with chimpanzees, which makes sense as we have a common ancestor. But yes, we share much over the majority of DNA with rats. And I believe its 60% percent for a banana but how do you go from that to a omnipotent god?
PatrickMoog 6 months ago
@PatrickMoog It's never been proven with concrete evidence that man evolved from apes, or that we share common ancestor. They've found fossils and seen how much DNA we share and assumed that that's what happened. I know I may be asking for a lot to see a physical evolution, but science is always advancing and I hope that, before I die, I can be shown accelerated evolution, or a means of gene manipulation to show evolution at work.
ShiivaWilding 6 months ago
@ShiivaWilding To put it bluntly: If evolution isn't a reality, then we have to scrap almost everything we know about biology and biological functions, including how our immune system works. There is absolutely no reason why humans should be the ONE creature on earth that didn't evolve from another species, especially since we DO have evidence of that exact occurrence in OTHER species, for instance in certain lizards in South America where both the "ancestor" and the new species still exist :)
steffenml 5 months ago
@steffenml Wow, another argument for evolution that doesn't provide any evidence... if evolution isn't a reality then God made everything how it is today and natural selection (not evolution) has meant that some imperfections have become a dominant part of the gene pool, hence this seemingly unbroken chain of mutations people call evolution (when in fact, it's not). Evidence my friend, you do need it when trying to convince someone of something they consider utter shite.
ShiivaWilding 5 months ago
@ShiivaWilding Umm, no. It's not like I could copy/paste peer-reviewed articles here, so I gave you specific examples - espescially the lizards is something you want to look up. If you actually want evidence, then READ evidence. Read peer-reviewed articles in scientific journals - don't expect people to shove education down your throat.
steffenml 5 months ago
@steffenml The problem with scientific evidence... is that it's not evidence. It's what's presumed to have happened. Like I said in my conversation with PatrickMoog below, evolution can only really be proven when scientists have developed a way of accelerating the process to show it happening right in front of our eyes, otherwise us sceptics aren't convinced. You're presuming these lizards are the ancestor and the evolutionary result... when really, they could just share DNA (read on)
ShiivaWilding 5 months ago
@steffenml There is no way of proving the lizard evolved into the other lizard, nor that we evolved from apes. These theories are based on the DNA we share with apes, and the DNA the lizards share (yes, I've read the article and the essay written on it), but we share DNA with mice, sea cucumbers and bananas, yet they don't say we evolved from any of them. Hence, another solution must be sought and I choose to believe in God. Copy and paste some URLs, by all means try and convince me otherwise.
ShiivaWilding 5 months ago
@ShiivaWilding Well aside from the fact that until you provide an alternative theory, your ideas won't be taken seriously, you're actually dead wrong in this case, which is why I asked you to look this specific example up to begin with. The evidence for the evolution of these animals is astounding - including a complete lineage of _still living_ lizards of each species. The changes seem insignificant from place to place, but the difference between the sea- and inland lizard is huge.
steffenml 5 months ago
@ShiivaWilding And seriously - you doubt evolution because of "lack of evidence", but you believe in God? I have no problem with people being skeptical, but really? God? THAT is your alternative hypothesis? You're right, they don't say we evolved from mice or bananas - nor that we evolved from monkeys. We share an ancestor with monkeys - as do we with bananas. Hence, we another solution "must" not be sought, but unlike with religion you are free to do so, if you can actually provide evidence.
steffenml 5 months ago
@steffenml Belief isn't based on logic my friend. The differences between inland and coastal lizards is entirely down to natural selection (some mutations get picked off on the coastal areas, but others get picked off around the inland areas, hence a difference between the two shown across almost every species of animal(search up light and dark moths on google, you'll see what I mean) not evolution which sees animals becoming fish, or birds... changing completely without evidence how.
ShiivaWilding 5 months ago
@ShiivaWilding See this is my problem: There is LOADS of evidence for evolution, which you obviously haven't read, since you bring up the example of "animals becoming fish" - which would actually be evidence AGAINST evolution. You claim there is not enough evidence in evolution to believe in it, but you still talk about faith not requiring evidence. You do see the contradiction there, right? If your beliefs are not supported any grain of evidence, you should review your beliefs.
steffenml 5 months ago
@steffenml They say we were once a single celled organism that evolved over millions of years to finally get to the human stage. They also say an atom exploded and the world came out of it... if you can link me to evidence of those two, I might convert.
ShiivaWilding 5 months ago
@ShiivaWilding *sigh* You have NO knowledge of science, and it's getting tiresome. Noone claims an atom exploded and the world came out. As for the evidence for a single celled organism that evolved etc. - I'm not allowed to post links in here, but pubmed, science, nature and heaps of other credible magazines have literally thousands upon thousands of papers on this. Read about 20, and you might start to understand a small bit. Though, looking at your response so far, I doubt it.
steffenml 5 months ago
@steffenml "Though, looking at your response so far, I doubt it." I've read plenty of essays, researched it to my hearts content and found more substantial evidence for the existance of biblical events (proven by scientists no less) then evolution and the big bang. This would make any sane person choose to believe in the existance of God. Stop getting mardy because I don't believe in evolution and tell me what to search for on google if you're that concerned what one Englishman believes.
ShiivaWilding 5 months ago
@ShiivaWilding Norwegian* It doesn't seem like it, when you actually make a claim like "animals evolving from fish" and "an atom exploding and creating the world". I'm getting "mardy" because though it started out as a perfectly good conversation, it's turned into you using post hoc ergo propte hoc and straw men fallacies. Please do provide me with scientific evidence for biblical events that even come close to the evidence provided for evolution or the m-theory.
