  • Britain would win much more often it its contestants sang in proper English, like Katrina did here. Some of the veriest British dialects I've heard since then are as unintelligible to European ears as a stump-toothed farmer from the Ozarks.

  • @ixlnxs Basically, you're saying they should sing like Americans.

  • IMHO, the fact of the matter is that since this song, the UK hasn't really entered a song worthy of winning. Yes we've been screwed by tactical voting some years, but I just wish we would enter a properly great song like this one, instead of gimmicky ones.

  • if we did this song this year and not then we would still be slaughtered and come last lol. as per. Corruption is so obvious when its like. Estonia picks as its top pree: Latvia, Lithuania and Finland. and scatter a few in there for good measure.

  • the smallest stage in eurovision history?

  • Is that Ashley Jensen on the tambourine?!?!? lol

  • ahh a time before the whole of europe hated the uk. we'll never win a eurovision ever again thanks to bush and blair, nice one guys.

  • @farhannius16 no, they hated us then too, lol. this is just an alright song!

  • Do anyone of you know why Kimberley Rew and Vince de la Cruz did not play the instruments they normally played at the Eurovision 1997?

  • Don Airey!!! Of Deep Purple/Sabbath/Priest and a shed-load more fame!

  • absolutley one of the BEST songs ever in eurovision! <3 I was 5 ½ years old and fast a sleep when this was shown. Long live the 90´s! :D

  • One the best songs in Eurovision ever !

  • Veldig bra jeg har den på hjernen hele tiden:-)

  • no playback!!! Who of the current "stars" would pull this off?

  • @geolos007 There is actually a playback: All instruments shown on stage are not played live; however, the singing is live and the remaining instruments (strings, horns and flutes etc.) are performed live by the RTE Concert Orchestra.

  • @klausgeorg01 ok, now I see there are no cables to them.... but I meant the singing in the first place anyway :-)

  • @geolos007 there is no playback now either in esc, but I see what you meen. :)

  • @geolos007 the "stars" in esc don´t sing playback now either, but I see your point. :)

  • What a winning song, one of the best ever in my opinion.

  • @mallaka8 I can see, You are fair and Kind with Katrin, i would like to know about he some little information

I love to much this song, end lovely Katrina where is now, this time, and so on....please!

    with respect!!!!!

  • @karoline5fly Hi Karoline, I really don't know much more than you. I do not follow the group but I do love the song. Please search for Katrina and the waves with Wikipedia for all the info. Youtube wont allow me to post the link here. There is a section on what they are doing now on there. It seems it is there anniversary year of Wlaking on sunshine this year. Regards.

  • The Rachel Tucker version of this song is probably even better than the original

  • They KNEW they were going to win - it's clear from the sheer energy and performance of everyone on that stage.

  • this is a real winner, i like this song.

  • I remember thinking on the night that this song just blew every other entrant off the stage.

  • It's a shame we don't get to see the orchestra. They do a tremendous job here. It's the icing on the cake.

  • they absolutely deserved to win the contest!

  • An American lady who unfortunately is a lesbian whom has lived in England sings a proud, excellent English song which sounds American in style and wins the last Eurovision title for The UK. Well done in my country of Ireland, Dublin for a British team is a very hard place to win.

  • @GeeverMc You're Irish and you actually LIKE England!?

  • @GeeverMc unfortunately?

  • The blonde singer looks like Maggie from that Ricky Gervais programme 'Extras' lol

  • @1984England lol omg she does!

  • Het was een terechte winnaar en een heel mooi lied, nog altijd na al die jaren...

  • the narrator sounds like the foreign man from google translate.

  • I loved listening to this song when I was 6 years old. Now I'm 20 years old, and I still listen to it. Brilliant song.

  • @INTHEJUNGLE123 Good said! If the whole world was as mature as you there would be only smart people in the world! Go jungleboy!!

  • Check out a very different Katrina here at "Katrina and the Waves - Walking on Sunshine - Peters Popshow - 1985"

  • een beetje bizonder!!! You can say that again!!!

  • They didn't need a fancy stage show with half-naked dancers and pyro-effects in order to win. They had an amazing song, and that was enough! :)

  • Good times...miss them...miss the orchestra and the conductor...these were real times...not now

  • this is such a happy feel good song fucking love it

  • @Tips247 Yes! This is just a brilliant, happy, singalong song. One of my alltime faves.

  • this was at the year that i was born.

  • This and Waterloo were the only two winners that I picked as soon as I heard them.

  • a 'good' eurovision song is bad music.

  • t first time i heard this song i said it would win! i think t only time ive ever chosen t winner one of t best winners of all time!!!

  • The number one Eurovision song contest of all time from Katrina and Kimberly and the rest.

  • Awesome song, we Brits rule!

  • Good song and Mr. Airey's conducting and arrangement, nice!

  • agree this is the best euro song ever .

  • Good times, when every country sent their very best artist to perform.

  • The best Eurovision song ever

    From England of course ;P

  • @BackFromNowere *britain*

  • thank you katrina who cares if ur american

  • I came here because I remembered when David Mitchell said that the UK won Eurovision in 1997.

  • a lovely positive song :-)

  • what a beautiful song and sung with great passion

  • love shine a light through every corner of the worlld X. :)

  • Probably the best Eurovision entry, ever.

  • The words to this song to me mean that we should all unite. It has a good 90's positive vibe and never fails to make me smile!!

Shame that in the years following this song, the world has truly fallen apart and we are, any of us anything but united.

  • @1984England True words !

  • A beautiful song, one of the best Eurovision entries ever, and one that could still win even today!!

  • "By far the best song of the 90's" ----> SO TRUE! Bravo UK! :)

    2nd: The Voice

    3rd: Nocturne

  • Der beste Eurovision-Song für alle Zeiten. Ein würdiger Gewinner.

  • @sandrodream1 So you're saying that only Italy are musical? I think you should take your head out of your arse and start listening to music from other countries as well.

  • @sandrodream1 Hasn't quite worked out well for Italy then has it, because this so called "Joke Festival" as you called it has seen the RETURN of Italy, so they can't have thought it was that bad now can they.

  • where singin this song at school :)

  • @ponnihelle who cares?

  • song starts at 1:12

  • @tomerik112 Thank you.

  • @tomerik112 haha thanks :P

  • @tomerik112 Thank you !! :-)

  • Katrina And The Waves... singing live for you in New Orleans!

Sounds like Tom Greens new Band!

  • This could still win..

  • This is weird beyond words...

  • I remember this concert. This song is beautiful. British singer was greatest there. Katrina went past and splashed Russian singer Pugacheva dung. Pugacheva was in dung from top to bottom. Performance of Pugacheva was her big fault and shameful rout. Pugacheva-scumbag and she looked there like rotten wet rag. Katrina is the BEST.

  • its a good song, if a little repetative with the lyrics.

  • look how shit the stage is

  • This is the best song I have ever heard on Eurovision for as long as I've lived, and a DAMN worthy winner!

    Mats, Norway

  • This is the best winner in the history of eurovision

  • Could you imagine if we convinced Tinne Tempah or the Saturdays to go, now that would be somthing i would watch talk about push over

  • lol hard rock hallelujah, cant rlly remember tht. wait ws that the one with the rlly random costumes and god-fearing song? Finnish entry like 4,5 yrs ago?

  • This is shallow, boring, a-dime-a-dozen pop. I just looked at the song from Italy that year. It was so much better!

  • love this

  • How the hell did this win any contest?

  • A very good song, probably one of the best winners of eurovision! 1997 was a great year, with fiumi di parole from jalisse which deserved the first place too!

  • Goo, but not better than Italy's "Fiumi di parole". Definetly not. Italy should've won that year. Period.

  • Ok but nothing can beat Hard Rock Hallelujah:)

  • Proud to be English ;)

  • This is not the best of Eurovision. This is one of the best songs ever. My favourit song ever. And now UK sent a gay band to sing i can? I know that you UK can send something great like this

  • Dear Mrs Katrina. Please can you submit a song for the 2012 Eurovision Song Contest. The Morons we have had have made us Loose Miserably, especially Scooch!

    P.S. Great song!

  • 3:16 : Is that Imaani (UK 1998)??

  • @vasosfromcyprus94 No she is Beverley Skeete not Imaani

  • One of the best ever!

  • the best british entry ever. just goes to show, if you have a good song, even the UK can win, what is largely a pointless event

  • This was great!

  • Awesome!

  • still think fairytale from 2009 was one of the best eurovision entries ever.

  • @Starzagal I would say it is one of the worst entries ever.

  • @Starzagal

What about Lordi Hard Rock Hallelujah L.O.L.

  • Wish there were more songs like this at the Eurovision nowadays. 2011 was a year of crap mostly...

  • @ZijneDoodsheid 2011 was pretty good, I thought, 2010 was crap.

  • Ye! for Katrina and the Tsunami

  • When the UK actually make an effort they do really well, but like some countries, they don't take it seriously at all (although Lloyd Webber and Jade was good)

  • Does this twat at the start ever shut the fuck up?

  • @gecko2gecko2 Agreed. I want to hear an awesome song, not some Dutch guy!

  • @Dendiol This is the Eurovision song contest, this broadcast was taken from Dutch TV, what do you expect to hear in the in introduction?

  • This is by far the best Eurovision song of the 90's and one of the best Eurovision songs ever.

  • @default1976 Insieme is better

  • @default1976 A-B-S-O-L-U-T-E-L-Y!!!!!!!

  • This was such a great song for the UK.

  • yes indeedy...big it up for Katrina (walking on sunshine is still a wee bit better :-))

how rude will graham norton be tonight? extremely or hugely...

  • Even though we won it quite a few times this was probably the only good song we ever entered.

  • @thegoldencat7 No it wasn't; Songs can be "good" for different reasons. Novelty songs (i.e making your mind up) song not be compared to poetry, just like walkers crisps should not be compared to steak.

  • this must be one of the greatest eurovision songs ever

  • Awesome! Big Up UK

  • Do Breataine Móire 12 pointe ó na Cróite. Comhghairdeas!

Za Veliku Britaniju dajem 12 bodova.Pozdrav iz Hrvatske!Bravo!

    क्रोएशियाई ग्रेट ब्रिटेन से 12 अंक के लिए. बधाई हो!

  • Come on Blue, let's reclaim our Eurovision crown!

  • epic fail for Katrina after this song, she was never heard from again.... worst choice to take part in Eurovsion for an established singer...

  • @maltanetworkresource You don't know your history. This was a surprised come back for Katrina. They had been on the back burner since their big days for years. After that, you can't just pluck amazing songs out of the air. How many truly great songs do they have? This one and Walking on Sunshine...don't try and tell me they had "lots" of world-class songs because they didn't...hardly anyone does except people like Elton John etc. etc.

  • @wikichris are you serious???? I'm a Katrina fan.. No they hadn't come back with this, and of course they still were recording new songs at the time etc. But Eurovision ended their career - no new songs at all - after their victory! We are still waiting for their comeback which is due now :)

  • @catholichealing Oh jesus...more internet retards. Correlation isn't causation. Eurovision didn't end their career. Leskanich left the group in 1998 after several disagreements within the band. Legal wrangling followed, preventing Leskanic from using the band name. The band released NO charting singles in the years up to Eurovision. Seriously, get a fucking grip.

  • @catholichealing Never heard of the FOLLOW UP to this before they disbanded? It was called "Walk on water", and if this wasn't a comeback what was it? It was the first time they were in the top 30 charts for over ten years!

  • its gas,the only way england can win is when he get a singer from another country to sing for them,,,,well done lads. .

  • For me, not only is this a beautiful song, it brings back some wonderful childhood memories. :)

  • Beautifulllll!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • we don't hear any more beautiful songs in Eurovision similar to this!

  • I love this song.

  • it's magical.

makes me proud to be british! <3

  • Stunning beauty. World class voice!

  • Is this the last time the UK took the Eurovision seriously? (tho i dont think it ever did)

  • @Ali74 We never take it seriously, why should we, its a pathetic competition based merely on political voting, we know we'll never win again cos' we haven't got enough neighbours, to the UK this contest nowadays is a farce and we love eurovision cos its a big joke, not because we hope to win!

  • @ashybline agree... summed up very well

  • @Ali74 We always take it seriously, sadly. It's just a shame we have a rubbish taste in music. Hopefully this year though :)

  • @Chopstickplus Scooch...ahem.... deadly seriously.

  • @Ali74 I know, I was ashamed too...

  • Never realised Katrina was American, well there you go then, one for the UK and US XD

  • Such a feel good and uplifting song, Britain isnt like it used to be since we last won it in 1997 i wonder what happened in 1997 that could of fucked things up to like they are now... Oh yeah the labour party got elected!

  • E já lá vão 14 anos que esta canção esteve no top da eurovisão

  • I'm walking on a sunshine

  • better than the shit we hear today

  • The bit at the end was in Dutch as well, aye?

  • @robsargent4 Yes, the Dutch commentator says at the end 'well, if that doesn't win then it's sure to become a Top 10 hit anyway'. He was right with both - he thought it would win.

  • Is the bit at the start in Dutch? I think I heard an "Engeland" there. I'll let it pass. Really inspiring song anyway. Surely no one would enter such an optimistic song into the Eurovision Song Contest nowadays.

  • gives me goosebumps, really. UK's greatest moment in ESC, as soon as she started to sing....you knew she would win. Strong performance...

  • @MrsMonaco2 I agree

  • I am sure Kimberly Rew and Vince de la Cruz switch places during the performance.

  • Bester Song bei einem Eurovision Song Contest!

    12 Points from Austria!

  • I love this song.

  • this was 3 years before the contest became political.

Katrina and the Waves 1 of the last deserving winners along with Dana International the next year

  • 12 Points to United Kingdom again, 14 Years later

  • @maniberglein This is me being weird lol it's been 14 years since the UK won, we're 14th in the line-up, and the final is on the 14th May. Is this a sign.....?

  • @chelmsforddude It obviously wasn't.

  • @tranquilnightmares Nope it wasn't :-( Shame, I wasn't completely convinced with Azerbaijan. I would have much prefered Sweden, or the UK of course! Lol

  • @chelmsforddude Same, or Greece! Azerbaijan were good, but I didn't think they were the best.

  • great song and a deserving winner..Wow the stage design is amazing!!!

  • This song makes me so happy!!

  • UK used to pick great songs...now they don't care.

  • Meh.

  • oh god!

  • I find this music full of awesomeness <3

Greetings from a country that can't enter, USA :D

  • so this is what won eurovision? damnn it just feels so wierd watching britain win eurovision only to find today we are always near the bottom

  • @weatherallc05 u should check our record, mr naive. 5 wins, 15 2nds places.........its only the last 10 years we havent given a toss, and even then a top 3, 5, 11. Some countries would die for our record

  • @MrEurocat wow mate, i think i have knowledge of us winning a few times via the likes of bucks fizz.

  • Sounds like all us Brits think this is crap, which shows you what kind of music you have to produce in order for the rest of Europe to like it
