Democracy or no democracy is not really important to US. What is important to US is what is important to the national interests of US. The so-called democracy by US is nothing but a tool or method to contain others with a good excuse. Can you imagine if China follows what US imposed upon on it? It would be total disaster. China would not be today if it is not under the leadership of the current Chinese government.

@wikct2 I totally agree with the first part that US puts self interest first and using democracy as a tool. However, I can't agree with you that China's economic success is due to CCP, that's what CCP wants you to believe. I'll attribute China's economic success to the Chinese people. I would not encourage sacrificing civil liberties for economic comforts, for that will be as good as prostitution. China can do a lot better without CCP, be it historically or in modern times.

A pro US Mubarak dictatorship is strategically beneficial for US but that might not be exactly beneficial to EU. Tunisia, Yemen & Egypt are vital countries that lie along a major sea lane that connects EU to the far east. I'm beginning to wonder about EU's role in this series of unrest. If Mubarak steps down, we shall see if there is any EU active NGOs that integrate themselves into the new Egyptian government.
