Very nice Nat! Thank you. I remember when this some came out. I had just traded my '64 fender mustang for a sleeping bag and quit music out of frustration. I joined the army and didn't come back to music until 2007. I am now learning guitar and bass. Your channel is an inspiration. I will subscribe.
You know, I've watched several videos and noticed you're great with the fretless and was wondering if you could play a Colin Moulding bassline (XTC). The song by XTC-Yacht Dance from the album English Settlement.
I've listened to "Boomtown" for years and try as I might, I cannot make out a bass line. I think what you've done is actually WRITE a bass line for this song! Sounds great, BTW!
@prospectus91 Thanks for the kind words prospectus but I assure you that I am indeed copying what is on the track - the bass sits quietly in the background in the original whereas the track you've just listened to has the bass levels exaggerated.
You got some really nice sounding fretless bass going on there! Dig it! I play in a band, we write all original stuff, but I really wanna cover this tune! the chorus has a HUGE feel to It!
that was awesome..I used to drive around to this song and think what the heck..they are totally right ,no matter where you live.you nailed the bass parts!!!just write them down so these guys can learn it too lmao
Great job rockin the bass on D&D Welcome to the Boomtown. This is such an obscure song that not to many people know about it. I also play bass can you send me the bass tabs to D&D Boomtown?
A double bass. Some day, some way, I'm going to play one. BoomTown would sound awsome on an upright, with electronics. Why not give it a try Nat, fun fun fun... Cheers.
Hi Beatlesfan! I was trained as an orchestral double bass player and went to the Queensland Conservatrorium...it was easy to translate my double bass skills to fretless. Been playing since 1984.
I'm one of the few who bought this Album when it came out. I've always loved this song and now I know why, it was the Bass and you now how to play it. Thank You.
I have it on vinyl too but must confess it was in the throw out pile at an FM rock station here in Brisbane. They converted all their vinyl to digital and decided to dump all these masterpieces. So glad nobody at the station wanted it but me!
An ARIA. Don't call it cheap, it works, and is teaching you to play. Valuable in and of itself. I taught myself to play, by ear, listening to Boom Town, as well as a couple of Clapton's and others. No formal training...yet,it will happen. You are doing good! Pratice at least an solid hour a day, and you will be amazed at how you'll improve. Keep it up! Thanks again for sharing your video. I'll never tire of it either. "All Alone In The Big City" was another great cut of theirs. Cheers. J...
Nah the Aria didn't teach me lovey...was trained as an orchestral double bass player in the 80s...very easy to translate those skills to the fretless.
i'm wearing some mistletoe just to be sure. i am going to be adding some new audio and video to my myspace soon.../mark lembo. get your party on!!!weeeeeeeeee!
damn, not bad at all! now if we could just get the video back up like it was earlier this year and have yours and the original back to back! this song hit the top 40 charts on 11-15-86 staying on the charts for 3 weeks and peaking at #37! should have gone alot higher! dj's at the time should have given this more air time and it would have caught on with more people and gone higher on the charts!
When I first heard this song in the early 80's, I was blown away ! I got the cd and fell in love with every single song on it. I can't think of a greater debut album from that era. Only 2 tracks got any airplay back then, "what a travesty" ! Other gems from the cd were unforgivably ignored. While watching an episode of DARK ANGEL one day, I was absolutely floored to hear "heroes" in the background ! Someone showed some love. This band deserved more recognition than it received. Cool... best rock ballad ever and a true ode to L.A. Come on over, we could play Twister:)

Hi
I know I am asking a lot but would it be possible for you to note the tabs and email them too me?
I really like D&D. The Boomtown disc just rocks.
For example
E 5 5 5 0 7
A 7 4 6
D 3
G
The letters are the four strings and the numbers are the frets.
I just cracked Lou Reeds Walk on the Wild Side on the bass. Its pretty cool. Ill trade you Lou Reed for D&D. :)
