After playing the original Bomb Jack on the Amstrad CPC, I was expecting more of the same from the second game so the change to the free-roaming dodging about formula was a disappointment for me. However, looking back I think it was a brave attempt at trying something different and the graphics, though murky, aren't too bad.
Cool! I was playing this the other week and thinking about doing a longplay for it.
I think this was a good game to get on budget, which I did at the time - I was happy with the £2 I spent. I thought the gameplay was actually quite novel - a good puzzle element to the action. It's not as good as the original but I'm glad they tried something different.
I thought the backgrounds looked nice until they just repeat the same ones over and over :(
@Xyphoe As a budget game this is indeed a good title. I remember as a kid i was also thinking the backgrounds was a bit "empty" to look at, but today i realise that keeping the backgrounds "empty" also made the game much more clear to play. Sure they could have gone all "crazy" with the backgrounds but then you would probably have a real hard time seeing what is what.
@CholoCPC I really liked this game when I played it at its time.
It's not the original Bomb Jack but the concept was nice to try.You still can get rewards by getting the items in the right order, and the gameplay was enough fast and different to be attractive. You could find the repeating levels and backgrounds on Bomb Jack I also, despite I prefer that games at some point ends, it's a feature that increase the game life.
Maybe it could be more polished in some aspects, but definitely worth to try.
@Metr81 Indeed Bomb Jack also had the repeating lvl/backgrounds too. I do wonder if the game had been a bit easier it might have really have been a big hits. Just rearranging some of the lvls would have done wonders to the playability of the game. Like if they had moved lvl 2 into the end of the game. Also there is a few lvls later on that are so easy you wonder why they show up so late.
Interesting to see this version. I bought the original cassette for c64. BG images in this version look much more interesting and colorful, but lack of music is a downgrade.
@einokeino303 Indeed, the background images arnt too bad and at the same time they arnt too intruding too (you can see what is platforms and what is not).
