That does it. Abbey Road may well be the most imitated album cover of all time. Initially it was suggested that the record be named Everest after a pack of cigarrettes, and that the band fly to the Himalayas and have a shot taken at the foot of Mt. Everest. One of the Beatles said, 'Look, I can't be bother to schlep all the way to the Himalayas for a photo, why don't we go outside the street, have the picture taken there, call it Abbey Road, and get it over with?' The rest is history.

The Beatles do and will always exist because of their music and worldwide influence my friend. Long after you are gone and buried people will be showing up at places like this to celebrate their legacy.

It's not a 'pedestrian crosswalk', it's called a 'zebra crossing' in England and I have visited many many times when in NW8 which includes actually working at EMI Studios as a freelancer. Please don't lecture me about something which is in MY home town and thousands of miles from the redneck town you live in. There isn't anything to 'get' and if you're going to spout about The Beatles it's called a ZEBRA CROSSING in the UK. The GOOF is all yours my friend!

Thanks for posting this. You've made one very old Lennon impersonator very happy. We were asked to do the photo shoot, and had no idea of the level of interest. I've tried to explain what the scene was like, but your footage of the press, says it all. I was trying to get the photo session completed as soon as possible to get the traffic moving, but as you saw, events took over. A very memorable 15 minutes of fame. Thanks again-

I work nearby, and the presence of people around the studio is odd indeed. What defines a typical tourist seems to be the right to turn up and act exactly the way you would never do at home. This video looks like the aftermath of a white street riot, the noise is just unbearable. The Beatles don't exist any longer, move on.

It would have been nice had they asked for the unofficial consent of the people who live there and shown a little respect for the local residents. I actually like the Beatles but I wouldn't dream of turning up on your doorstep like this without at least consulting local people first. Typical tourists think only of their fun day out. Further to Mr Perrin, I will 'connect' with the music in any way I see fit. It is foolish to assume to understand my personal justification. EMI were there too, cavorting about in the street, and they couldn't possibly understand the level of talent, right?

Participation in nothing much at all, something that looks really moronic. Acts like The Beatles don't require your or my approbation. As a local resident I've never got used to people hanging around in the street outside the studio, it looks obsessive and today they all turned up at once. The fact that some of the EMI staff took part doesn't mean anything, the Beatles would have sounded the same at any studio and were landed with something as backward as this place.

There has been talk in the local press about doing away with the crossing because it has become a traffic hazard.

You see some rather tragic looking people in this clip. One woman has an LP of the Abbey Road album which she is holding out in front of her as though this is some kind act of benediction taking place. The really fake high-strung laughter and the continual jabber when nothing at all interesting is happening is really scary. No wonder none of the band actually turned up to join in, you see they've moved on and so should you.

It's not even one of their best albums, John Lennon said that it 'had no life in it'. They were even going to call the album 'Everest' because their engineer smoked a brand called that. The Abbey Road album cover was a very simple idea, completed on the fly. Don't turn commercial pop music into an unhealthy belief system is all I'm saying. There is also no such thing as something that is definitively the best of anything, simply doesn't happen.
