  • @frankyboi187 cause the point of a dyno is to get an accurate reading of what you're pulling at the wheels, which is on 5th gear since it has a 1:1 ratio. i'm not trying to start an argument and don't tell me i'm wrong. does it not intrique you that your stock z is pulling only 258, instead of ~276 like the rest?

  • not too impressive. I get 254whp on aobut 6.5psi in my turbo RSX-S. 258 whp is only about 300 at the crank, it shoudl be 280+ whp

  • dam i hope nissan didnt lie to me i was excited to hear all the power this car is making out of a 6 cylinder and i understand power is lost due to the drivetrain and wat not but still.im a lil disapointed with those numbers. but this car does kill the camaro ss,stang(not the new 5.0) and the challenger r/t so with only 258hp still puts up a good fight id say.

  • Jabrother, no you can't. The rev limiter is exactly at 7500 rpm. Mine put down exactly 258whp stock too!

  • I think you could have stayed on the power close to 8000 revs. The peak power is close to 7500 so you may havemissed it, at least on the car's tach you let off just b4 you hit 7500!!

  • @350gtrs you should look up break in procedures man. Like engine builder breakin procedures, not manufact. recomended.

    The reason the man. wants you to take it easy for 5k is so you get breaks etc. bedded in. On a dyno you don't need to worry about that so you get to hammer the motor right out of the gate.... it makes the rings seal better and gives you more power overall.

  • ok another website shows a dyno slip of a stock 370z producing 279whp and 237wtrq. that sounds much better than 258

  • The first 350zs were overrated with hp rating but it can be many factors. The hp dynoed on one day can differ than one on another day. The 370z make around 265whp in the manual trans. This is alittle high but still a great car. The trans in the 370 is amazing synco rev tech.

  • Thats very odd, but than again it depends on more factors than just estimated crank power. If u look at the bmw e46 m3 rated 333crank hp it normally dynos 288whp stock....but it has amazing gears so maybe thats a huge factor.

  • 258 whp? Adding back in a 17% drivetrain loss (258/.83) only gives you 311 bhp round up. Kinda short of the factory claimed approx 330 bhp....

  • Chassy dynos measure HP to the wheels, not at the crank. All auto makers advertise HP at the crank, not the wheels. I have an 08 350Z. Both of our cars have the HR motor and they make 306HP but that's at the crank. We lose 17% through turning the flywheel, gears, drive shaft, axles and finally the wheels and tires. So, about 250 - 260 Wheel HP is about right for our cars. So, yeah, you'd think the 370Z, with 330+ crank HP would make more than 258 HP at the wheels

  • I'm going to see if I can drive one this weekend. I would really like to have the 370, but there's nothing like my 300z. Tell you what though, if they brought back the t-tops, or even the targa top like the old school supra, I would have a troubling decision.

  • Then your not a true sports car fan!  Ill tell you why not! Not only do the t tops add weight at the worst place you could put it "at the highest point on the car" but the car becomes less stiff, which is bad for handling!

  • even if the numbers are wrong those curves are so right! that would be soooo smooth to drive. Although an intake would probably stop the hp curve from going flat after 6500rpm

  • The curve is not right though. The engine is supposed to make peak power at 7,000 rpm, but this one is clearly falling off after 6,800 rpm. I too would suspect restrictive intake/exhaust is the culprit.

  • Read the video details, man, and learn a little about different dyno's and the equivalent results.

  • Dynodynamics reads to low. 330hp at the crank is not 250 at the wheels. This car on a dynojet makes 285whp that makes much more sense for 330hp at the crank.

  • Is the top speed limiter in 5th? I was just wondering why they topped out in 4th gear, usually hey top in 5th. The car has about 330 hp stock so a 21% decrease in whp is a little big. Is there a stock engine dyno test to confirm manufacturers claimed hp?

  • GTM did a dyno test and they got 286whp.

  • 07-08 would make about 240whp dyno dynamics

  • Mustang Dyno's suck? Seriously? They are many times better than dynojet. You can simulate so many different load settings, do 0-60 runs etc because is realistically simulates actual load, just like on the road. Dyno jets are basically worthless

  • Why is it that you need to be in a gear with a ratio near or at 1:1. Its because dynojet puts the inertia load on the transmission. Therefore it is not simulating real load, so its not able to do 0-60,0-100, and quarter mile times like the mustang dyno can. Its also why the dyno jet reads higher than any other. It makes customers feel good when it shows them making 400hp, even though they are not

  • Oh, having just read that in this video they used dyno dynamics, their numbers are nearly identical to what the 370z is really putting down. The mustang and dyno dynamics are loading dyno's rather than an inertia dyno (dyno jet). There is a reason why I said dynojet is worthless. Do a comparison between the two and you'll see.

  • Dynojet is not worthless, and it's ridiculous for you to say that. I've already told you that countless reputable tuners use them with great success. I'll give a closer look at the differences between the two - I was unaware of the precise design difference (inertial v. load) - but that doesn't make a very commonly used and successful tool "worthless".

    When you say, that, it just sounds like fanboy bashing.

  • Okay, Dyno jet's aren't worthless. It was just people saying that mustang and dyno dynamic suck. I had to counter their argument. If there was no other dyno near me but dyno jet, I would use it. Yeah it might not be the best, but you can still get a good tune on it. That is all that matters. :)

  • Hmm, is that like a Mustang Dyno, that shows the lowest numbers? I know that normally these cars (well, the G37, anyway) dyno about 285 to the wheels.

    Can't wait until people start coming in here saying how little power these make without learning about different dynos...

    Also, do you have numbers for a VQ35HR from the 07-08 models
